Chris Bardol has been selected to receive the United States Bowling Congress' Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Award, a $6,000 scholarship given to a male high school senior or college student who competes in the sport.

The award is another step for Bardol, a sophomore at Robert Morris College in Chicago who said he looks at each level of bowling as another step.

"You have to go step by step to be successful," Bardol said. "Collegiate was a whole new level for me. Our high school (competition) was not set up like collegiate, so it was a whole new experience."

Bardol averaged 203 as a freshman last season for Robert Morris, which was fielding a men's bowling team for the first time. The captain of the team, he was named National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Rookie of the Year in addition to earning a second-team spot on the NCBCA All-American team. He was an honorable mention for Collegiate Bowler of the Year by the Bowling Writers Association of America.

"Our men's team had an extremely successful season for a first-year team, and I was very proud that I helped contribute to that success," Bardol said. The Eagles participated in 11 certified tournaments, and Bardol had four top-5 finishes and was named to four all-tournament teams.

Dale Lehman, coach of the Robert Morris team, called Bardol "a leader on and off the lanes. He is always willing to help another player get lined up, help with ball selection and help fine-tune their games."

Bardol, from Brockport, N.Y., is a Culinary Arts major and was an Academic All-American last season. He made the Robert Morris College President's Dean List for 2007-08.

He has worked the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign and was a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. He spent time as a coach during the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged, which was influential because he "learned that sheer determination and heart are what allow goals to be accomplished."

Presented annually, the Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Award is given to a bowler who shows star qualities such as distinguished bowling performances on the state and national level, academic achievement, and extra-curricular and community involvement.

Bardol will receive his award at the annual USBC Convention scheduled for April 28 though May 2 in Reno, Nev.
