Hey guys,
So i am having trouble throwing my new Vivid lately. Because of the bad experience, it had been my Bench(bag) warmer most of the time.
Tonight bowling on SHARK pattern, my Vivid never really recover. Throwing it from 20 to second arrow . It keeps on hitting the pocket weak and leaving awful split.
In 6 games , i average around 160 mostly from spare shooting. Than i switched to my Critical Theory , with the same layout , throw it in a similar line , it just snaps in front of the pocket , and hits the pins with so much energy. i threw a 236 , 200 , and 218.
Similar Experience on THS league,
My Critical Theory and Crossroad hits hard. My vivid will only last one game, than it will die.
Conclusion,
So i believe that there are not enough oil on the lane, so my Vivid lost all of its energy before hitting the back end?
What do you guys think?
Should i do a Surface change on the Vivid?

Weird I hear good things about this ball then bad ones..
Is the vivid a heavy oil ball? If it isn't then there's your answer...
I know the Critical Theory is meant to be a monster on heavy oil..

Compared to the Vivid the Critical Theory is a puppy not a monster. The only bowler I personal know who has a Vivid and can use it on a THS has it drilled for length and he is a stroker with medium revs and lots of speed.
That being said, the Shark pattern is meant to be played deep on so 20 to 10 may not have been the line on that pattern with that ball. Did you try 25 to 15? I feel your pain though. I own two Hell Raiser Revenge's and can only use them in tournaments that have real heavy oil or they react like your Vivid

My guess is that your problem is thus...it sounds like the Vivid is using up all of it's energy before it gets to the pocket and therefore hitting the pocket having "rolled out." Try playing further left into the heavier oil and see what happens for you. The Critical Theory is designed to retain energy longer and then FLIP hard toward the pocket. The CT will not lose energy as quickly as the Vivid, but that s because the two balls were designed for different purposes...

Have the same issue so I had it polished and it did help a little but the polishing IMHO was not done well, had to remove residue the shop guy left on it, so I wonder if the job was done well in the first place. Nonetheless I am going to resurface it to 4000 grit and give that a try. So try a good polishing and if that is not to your liking then go from the OTB 2000 to 4000 grit.

Thinking outside the box here after the fact but is it possible the pattern and the amount of oil put down differs? Shark is a specific pattern but does that also mean the oil per ml also is the same? I have no clue just thought to ask. Maybe the pattern is the Shark but lacks the amount of oil typical for that pattern?

I like the thought process. You're right, unless who ever filled the machine would say, how does anybody know if the correct amount of conditioner was put into the machine?

I know in my sport league there are guys who swear the league secretary tweaks the patterns each week, because either they did well the first week of a pattern and not so well the second, or they were completely lost the first week but then did well the second. Most of it is probably that you're bowling with different bowlers each week and the pattern is breaking down in a different way.
Then of course there's always the one guy who claims the pattern is wrong because he's bowled on it at a regional, and its not playing the same here.

Hmmmmm........ I've never heard of a league or a bowling center that allowed a league
secretary to change/dictate what shot is to be put down????? Now in our center when the
owner oils the lanes he puts down which ever shot he decides to do or has the lane man do
it the ones they use are all USBC sanctioned patterns but no league secretary's around here
tell them which shot(s) to use that is for sure.

I ask for the US Open pattern every week. Once a year they actually put it down.

This fall the secretary has picked the starting pattern for the league and the ending pattern. The other 8 patterns that we will be bowling on will be voted on by the league bowlers the first night of the season from a selection of PBA patterns, Kegel sport patterns, and international patterns.

Oh okay I see what you are talking about now as it is a sports league I just
presumed you were taking about a regular everyday type of league.

The only difference I see in these two balls is the RG. (See the charts below) I can only guess on a couple of reasons why the Vivid won't finish: 1. the ball needs to be refinished, have you thrown a lot of games on heavy oil ? Could be saturated - have had it happen to me 2. Maybe you should try changing the surface of the ball; it's 2000 OOB maybe try 1000 or 1500.
Seems like both of the balls are 'very' similar and should react similarly on your condition seeing as how they're both drilled exactly the same. Very interesting problem to have. I know it would drive me crazy, too. Good Luck

I managed a center in New England, and I can tell you if a league secretary ever tried to dictate a oil pattern or a particular shot, I'd have to tell him/her very nicely where to go. My head mechanic and I were the only ones to set any patterns on the machine
