Hello all

I'm hoping to get an opinion of my current arsenal (All are OOB):

Brunswick Alpha-Max
Storm Hy-Road (Benchmark ball)
Columbia 300 Burst
Columbia 300 White Dot
Assorted 80's-90's urethane/reactive such as Blue Hammer, Columbia 300 Cuda/C, Piranha C, Power Torq, etc (All in a closet at home)

What gaps are there that you can see? I don't know my speed, RPM, etc. I would call myself a power tweener. I bowled for a lot of years, took a 10 year break, and started up again two years ago before breaking my ankle halfway through the season :( It's like I've had to learn to bowl all over again. I was a stroker years ago. Currently averaging around 190.

The conditioner on the lanes I bowl on doesn't really break down, it carries down. The bowlers in my two leagues range from 215 average to 110 averages. It's a small town with older wood lanes and pin setters that were purchased used a few years ago. Generally oiled to 41 feet, can range from medium to heavy in a normal house shot pattern. I think a big key is that there are all types of shots thrown from crankers to backup balls, so the oil is carried down all over the place.

Let me know if you would need any more info to make a recommendation. I've been looking at the Brunswick versa-max but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be too close too the Hy-road.

How about the Brunswick Nexxus f(p+r) for heavy? Mine seems to handle the carry down with ease. I know it's close to the Alpha-Max but I haven't tried that ball to compare myself. I also bowl on old wood lanes with a variety of bowling styles (mixed leagues). The Versa-Max and Hy-Road are very similar.

The Brunswick Maxxed-Out was designed to handle carry down as well.

for bill: just "straying" to myself, do you think the Brunswick Nexxxus that is coming out will be useful to me?

From what I've seen so far with that ball, it will be useful for everyone.

First of all, your alpha max has a very high hook potential. I don't think that is the gap you need to fill. What you need is a stong symetrical option. I would suggest the Storm IQ or Victory Road Solid. I would also suggest a strong pearl to fill out the gap of a ball for when the heads burn up. My suggestion there would be the Storm Fire Road. It is going to be more angular than your hy-road, cleaner through the heads too. It is also a great value, because you are gettting the same coverstock that is on the Marvel Pearl ($230 retail) on a ball that is only $190 retail. Those would fill in the gaps in your line, instead of just throw another ball in your bag.

The Hy-Road is clean through the heads and you're saying the Fire Road is even more so? I've always believed the Hy-Road to be one of the best, versatile balls ever produced.

The hy-road is the best ball ever produced. I had never thrown a ball that I needed to have more than one of until the Hy-Road, and I have had 3!It is incredibly versitile, and is clean through the heads and fairly clean through the mid-lane. The Fire Road has a pearlized coverstock, while the Hy-Road has a Hybrid coverstock. The Fire Road is more aggressive than the Hy-Road, but should be cleaner through the heads and mids. It is designed to hook at the end of the pattern, while the Hy-Road should begin to read in the mid-lane a little bit.
