Welcome aboard Rich. I spent lots of time in Germany in the USAF as well. One of my best missions was taking Joe Ciccippio back from captivity. We flew into Damscus and brought him to Rhein Main.

Nah, I only did my four years. Funny part of that story is CNN alerted us. We had just finished a crazy mission in Somalia that ended in Germany when we were asked if we wanted a high profile mission that would take us over our time limits. We agreed and flew to Turkey. We went on Alpha alert which meant we had one hour from the alert to takeoff. We prepped and sealed the aircraft (C-141). Ground crew/OPS told us not to worry we wouldn't be leaving for a day or two. So we went into town to buy pistachios (goofy I know, but that's what you buy in Turkey).

As we were walking around, our Aircraft Commander went into a restaurant to see what was on the news. At that exact moment, CNN was reporting that Joe Cicippio was being transported to Damascus and would arrive in Germany later that day. He knew that meant us. We broke every transportation law in Turkey to get back to the base! 10 min before we got there, his beeper went off for the alert and we barely got out of there within an hour. A million things could have gone wrong if he hadn't walked inside that restaurant.

Welcome to the board. I have family that live in Germany and are part of the Kiel Symphony Orchestra. Not sure what town they live in but my Uncle(dad's brother) has lived there since before I was born. A brass quartet that he was a member of is what brought him to Germany in the first place.

I hate that dialect! :) I'm actually from the States but I've been here 12 years so I can speak swiss german fairly well. (I even prefer it to high German....less strict with the grammar).

Is Bowling big in Bonn? I play in a Firmen/Betriebs-sport Städteturnier every year with teams from Hamburg, Bremen, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Vienna (and Basel obviously :)). There is also tournaments in Münich and Mannheim that teams here go to (just recently, actually), and there are some tournaments here that those teams come to. I don't think I've met any teams from Bonn yet though :).

Hehe no with me its more like of dialect from zurich. I went there because my father worked in Bern/Zurich.
However back then the locals didn't liked it when somebody from a foreign country was beginning to talk their dialect.
Do you feel that?

Well Bowling in Bonn is pretty poor. I men there are like 2 bowlingcenters thats it. So when Im playing league we usually
need to travel about 100-120km to our opponents...

Do you feel that? Actually no, I kind of get the opposite. I wonder if it has to do with being from the states....Swiss people are not used to seeing an Ami that can speak swiss german, so they are usually pretty impressed.

We only have two centers here also, but there are a lot of local bowlers. There are about 35-38 Firmensport teams, and maybe 9-10 teams in the friday night league (although the friday league teams are 90% Firmensport players).
