View Full Version : Vin Gerrard?

So apparently there is a wrestler out there named Vin Gerrard. He called out the PBA and he thinks he can beat any professional. He made a video about challenging any bowler to a three game match. If he wins, he gets to compete in the PBA World Championship and if he loses, the winner gets to cut his hair. Here is the original video: http://vimeo.com/45878753

So far I have seen two video responses by professional bowlers. One was by Sean Rash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMkgwNqEcQc

The other was by Jason Belmonte: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qaigYqkKC0&feature=player_embedded

Anyway, what is your opinion on this? I personally think this is just a promotional thing for both the PBA and wrestling. It seems like they are both just trying to get publicity out of this.

I agree, just a publicity stunt but then again, the PBA needs all the publicity they can get. How about a match with Vin Gerard against Bill O'Neil or Osku Palermo?

i've always loved wrestling, so this is fun for me

vin did a nice typical heel promo which was good

rash was boring and dull.

belmo on the other hand was pretty cool. he took the time to go and cut a wrestling style promo, which was perfect for this situation.

now if this happened with an actual name guy, and not some indie wrestler, I'd say they could probably get some sort of TV special out of it for fun. idk if they could with this vin guy though

I agree, it would be cool to put him up against them. I also thought it would be fun to watch him go up against Pete Weber or Wes Malott!

Hahahahahahaha.....That video made me start laughing about 30 seconds into it. I would love to see Belmonte take him on and make him look like Mr. Clean. I wonder if it will actually happen. If it does, I hope someone gets it on video. It would be good for a laugh.

I would definitely love to watch this as well. Knowing the PBA though, they will probably only put it on Xtra Frame if anything.

I have to agree it sure does look and sound like a publicity stunt
between the wrestling world and the PBA. LOL!!! Heck I'm no PRO
but I'd even be willing to go up against Mr.Gerrard on the lanes for
a 3 game set as I have never let anyone intimidate me when I'm out
there on the lanes bowling.

This just reminds me of how much I hate wrestling. Wasn't always that way, in fact for a few years I was around the wrestling business. I did a little training to be a wrestler, and had a hand full of pro matches. Now when I look at wrestling I just laugh and turn it off. I miss old school ECW, as far as I'm concerned that was the best promotion on the planet. As for this guy, he's just cutting a stupid wrestling promo, looking for attention. I would be interested to see if he can even bowl at all. However I would be willing to bet most of the people on this board can give him a whoopin. Would be interesting to see the match with him bs Belmo. Put it on TV, because this guy will never get on TV for his wrestling.

I saw that PBA jumped on board today and promoted Belmo on this. Maybe it might spark a little interest in bowling during an otherwise off time

i think it is and isnt a publicity stunt. I think Gerard did it as one thinking that pro bowlers really do suck. i mean the only thing is it looks bad for the sport. I think the PBA should say no because to associate bowling and wrestling...just wouldnt work unless people are getting hit with bowling balls and pins which you would never see

Maybe Vince McMann can open up his own bowling league, just like the great attempt at starting a football league. The XBL, has a nice ring too it. As bowler are lining up there shots, there oppenent comes from behind and wacks them with a chair. Thankfully, the tournament offical was discracted by the hot chicks the bowlers bring to the the alley, as they were cat fighting. Maybe before each shot, the bowlers can grab a mic, and go on long pointless rants about the other bowlers, and how they betrayed them. "I was throwing stikes like crazy, and you then my partner, Nirto McDumbass turned on me. When I wasn't looking, he switch my ball. When the ball hit the pins, it fell apart, and I lost because of you Nitro! Now you going down BROTHAAA!!!" Wouldn't that be great.

Yeah I though PDW was going to go into the audience and jerk up whoever it was
that he was talking to and drag them out onto the lanes and bodyslam them.

If he was really going to troll the bowling forums, he should have posted in the other bowling forums also. I've looked in the others and he didn't post anything in them.
I'll guess he did it here because this is basically a beginners forum, while the others are the more experienced bowlers.

If you want to troll here and cause problems then you are only showing the entire bowling community what a low-life, no-class loser you are. We both know you can't beat a pro bowler in bowling. So if you have the guts, come bowl me. Or if you would rather stay within your own element, we can fight. Not wrestle, no scripts, nothing fake. Either way, bring your wallet and make sure it's full. I will make sure it's empty when I'm done. You don't know how to get a hold of me? Here you go (937)638-3456 18308 Wells Rd. Anna, Ohio

calm is the idea. i've trained/been around the indie pro wrestling circuits before. some of the nicest guys i've met in those locker rooms were the best heels on the show.
(we did a show at a school for "special kids", this guy came out onto the stage in a wheel chair, got out, walked down the stairs, picked up and moved the wheel chair down, then proceeded to wheel himself around the ring, then took a guy in a wheelchair and pushed him into a closet and closed the door so he couldn't watch the match) you bet he got the biggest reaction of the night. over the months i'd seen/talked to him, he was one of the nicest, quiet humble guys you could see in any locker room.

point being, this vin guy is probably just playing his part. and in reality, probably a big advocate of bowling, maybe even a decent league guy; and he's just parlaying his heel wrestling character into some fun and PR for another activity he enjoys that will help both sides. and you know what, just that fact that rash and belmo both have youtube videos mentioning him means he's already gotten more attention than he hoped for him and bowling.

That would be what I think as well, is that it's all just an act, and maybe it is, but Belmo sure seems pretty sincere about the truth in this video... Maybe I just fell for his acting, I don't know, but if what he said is true, Vin Gerard does seem like an CENSORED...

I saw this video and thought oh wow this got real. But then I went and saw the video vin gerrard made and was like "Go buy my shirt at pba.com" and I was like.. oh wait.. they're still playing this angle like it's wrestling. I don't know what to think now. Kinda disappointed in Belmonte if it's true, but good acting. However, vin gerard has to be the worst actor I have ever seen. The funny thing is, in his video it looks like he THINKs he's acting well. You can tell.

That's what I thought... If this is real and Gerard really is an a-hole... Why in the world would the PBA get behind him and make a shirt and promote this thing? Nonetheless, you're correct, he's a terrible actor. Most wrestlers are though lol. If Belmo is acting, then he ought to get an oscar lol.

where on pba.com is his shirt sold? cause I didn't see it.

I don't see how this is a story line being fed to us. What would the point be? Publicity, right. So how much publicity can you get by having a "fight" with a no name, low level, local PA wrestler? It's not like this is John Cena, or Triple H, and this is on Sportscenter. The only people who even know this is happening is people like us, who already watch bowling. As far as the wrestler goes, is this going to get him in the WWE? He gets some pub from bowling fans, so Vince gives him a call. Not in a million years. He is a crappy, local house show clown, who is getting exactly what he wants, us talking about him. Belmo was silly to get involved with a walking cartoon character. This is clearly a guy who does not know what wrestling is about, and has no ability to be a real person, and step outside his character. His character has nothing original, he used trite, chiche lines, and gimicks, and he is a joke that should have not even been responded too. He put his hair on the line. Did he really pull that old wreslting standby out? In 20 years or watching wrestling, I've probably seen 100 hair vs hair matches. What's next, is he gonna threated to retire if Belmo wins, then come back wearing a mask. He also used the line "I eat wings, drink beer, and bowl like a man, and I'm all out of wing and beer." I had to check and make sure this wasn't 1982 whn I heard that line. His entire video gave me douche chills it was so bad. He is a terrible actor, a terrible wrestler, and a hack with a mic. Thanks Belmo for giving this clown publicity. BTW, my buddy is a really good bowler, and also trains MMA. I would love to see him whip this clown on the lanes, then whoop his *** in the cage after.

Curiosity got the better of me and I watched this stuff this weekend. If I could, I'd issue my own challenge to this clown: If you beat me, I'll put up the $750 bucks to get you into the WSOB in November, but if I win, I want the ball you stole from Jason Belmonte to display in my house (since this moron ruined it for actual use, what an idiot - a real bowler would never have done that).

The latest on this I guess is that Jason's altering his travel schedule to meet up with this clown at the pro shop he put his "calling all Bundies" list up at and spank him good on the lanes in front of some cameras, but knowing a typical wresting heel, this guy will probably either not show up at all, or if he does he'll just make off with some more of Jason's gear or even worse, injure him in some way by doing some stupid wrestling move while he's on the approach or something. Not worth the risk. I think Belmo should just shut him down by telling him "enjoy the ball, and 15 minutes of fame, but I have real work to do so I'll just bid you a g'day mate and say thanks for the laughs." There was a good opportunity here for Vin to promote his no-name wrestling league in front of a national audience but he blew it when he stole Jason's ball and belittled one of his students - that was just stupid and mean.

I'm pretty sure all that stuff about the ball being stolen and a student being belittled was fake. Belmonte is just a better actor than the entirety of all wrestling.

You know what would be a shame that could really happen. What if Vin Gerard is really a lefty? Because bowling is one of the few environmental games, (why it didn't and can't make the Olympics) if the lanes were totally shut down on the right and the left opened up then Gerard could win. Another could be that they put a shot out like I have personally seen in Asia, where spinners can make PBA players look very bad. PBA bowlers won't even compete on these conditions, they consider them to be too bad.

I also follow a bicycling forum and recall a few years back (when Lance was a good guy), some sports announcer making similar claims about pro cyclists. (They just ride a friggin' bike a few hours a day. What's the big deal? Where's the athleticism). There was a challenge, and I don't know what came of it. Probably another ploy to boost popularity. Bowling can certainly use it. - Not that this is the way to do it.
