Currently I release the ball only a few inches away from the foul line, say 6" to 8" but from some rolls in the past when I release later (by accident) with minimal loft I seem to have better results hitting the pocket. I think it may be rolling in the heads too early and staying in the heavy oil too long and would like to reduce that somewhat.

Any tips or suggestions on how to release a bit later and adding just a bit more loft?

Theoretically, loft is determined by the amount of knee bend when done correctly. Less knee bend at the starting stance should translate to less in the finish position.
Now for the contradiction of your post. A later release is the incorrect way amateur bowlers obtain loft. So if you're releasing later and getting less loft and better roll.......you are normally releasing too early. You ask for more loft after stating that when you're timing is later and have less loft you have better results. If that's the case, why would you want more loft??
As for adjusting timing, it would be easier to make suggestions if I could see you current timing.

I see what you mean. I guess I was putting loft and late release as one thing. I think I included loft assuming a later release would need some more loft to get down further(downlane) from the foul line before actually hitting the lane. At any rate I think I am rolling too much through the heads which adds more skid for a longer time. Not sure what that means or if it plays any role in midlane and backend reaction?

I will see what I can do tonight getting a video of my approach and release. I can get the video, posting it is another issue. I have to have my buddy video on his smartphone then try to figure out how to get it on to my PC. I am not real up on technology!
Thanks!

The longer the skid the more potential energy is stored for a stronger backend reaction. Now if your ball is already drilled to go long and then your style adds more length, you could end up with a combination that's too long before reacting. A quick reference that isn't 100% accurate, if your pin is above the finger holes it's drilled for length, below drilled for an earlier roll. The sooner a ball can read the lane, the sooner it can hit the hook phase and react. I'm rev dominate so I need my stuff to go long.
