Hey everyone,
First post on here and just registered today. What brings me to the site is everyone telling me that I should be upgrading to a new ball. Unfortunately I'm very paranoid about their advice as my league seems exceptionally clicky and I am not sure who to turn to for advice. Furthermore everyone seems to have different advice on what I should be looking for. As a newish bowler I'm not sure exactly what I want or if I need to upgrade at all an was hoping to get some advice that doesn't involve potential business or trying to use me to get back at others which seems sadly very common place. Anyway, I average around 160 and am currently using a Storm Tropical Breeze. I like it but as I have said many have said i would see a large improvement from an upgrade.
Thanks for any help,
Alex
ps: I know it is somewhat dumb but i would really like to stick with storm. I love the scents and being able to show (smell?) it off to people. Don't judge too much on this.... :p

I do not know what the upgrade for that ball would be as I never bowled storm balls yet... I do want to get a storm virtual gravity nano to try but who knows lol ... Anyways back to the topic I have heard bowlers say upgrade your balls every year or so but I just always see a ball and if I like it I research it and see if it would be something I like. You can also talk to your proshop and tell the pro shop person you like storm and if you decide to upgrade then they can also lead you into a couple choices that you may like. Sorry if I wasnt as much help lol

ok well if you want to upgrade from the tropical breeze then theres a few choices that u can deside from like the storm frantic or even the storm crossroad there abit more agressive and they are nice balls going down the lanes i know a few people who have already shot a 300 with both of them me not yet cause i have used there and my highesthas only been 262 with frantic and 258 with crossroad if they where drilled for my hand the scores could of been higher.
but just go to bowlingball.com and look up some storm ball by going to the tap near the top that says bowling balls moves your mouse over it and onces the thing that will will have a list of bowling companys come up below it move your mouse down and click on storm check out all the balls that they have.

Before you just go buying a ball for buying a ball's sake you would want to know what your purpose for doing so is. I would think for you, if you decided to get one it would be to compliment the ball you currently own. Tropical Breeze is a nice entry level ball for light to medium oil, so you would want a ball that was a little more aggressive to play on fresh oil and when the pattern is a little heavier. Something along the lines of maybe the Hy-Road, Frantic, or Manic may be the next logical step for you to fill out your arsenal of balls.

I would suggest the Storm Fire Road. It's a good step up from the Breeze.
The Hy-Road, in my opinion, may be the most versatile ball ever made by any company. I still like mine after many years of use. Personally, I don't like the angle of the Crossroad. The Frantic is alright.

My recommendation would be to take the money that you would be spending on an equipment upgrade, and spend it upgrading you. For the price of a new mid range ball you should be able to get 2 or 3 coaching sessions and a few practice sessions. Unless the Breeze is way to weak for the lane conditions, you'll get more value for the coaching. And you can then upgrade the equipment next year.

John, I read that in kind of a harsh way. Must be me because that's not like you. The Breeze is a light oil ball. Good for game three but probably not so well for games 1 and 2. I think every bowler should have a coach but that wasn't the question. Maybe jibtastic123 is an upgrade from jibtastic122? lol

i would recommend you a Fire Road if you say about you want to get a higher hook potential ball but not a ball that is meant for heavier oil pattern.. it does have good smell too :) been smelling it as my gf brother has 1.. the smell makes me crazy!

My apologies to Alex if my post came off as a harsh criticism of your asking advise about a new ball. I know that in the past I have said things in person that that have, for what ever reason been taken the wrong way, and I'm pretty sure it will happen again.
Bill, from the original post I got the feeling that Alex has not yet developed the full fledged "gotta buy a new ball" itch. I thought it would be a good time to plug coaching before his league talks him into spending all his money new balls.

John no worries I didn't take it as offensive. I have a unofficial coach at the alley who teaches alot of us newer people. He has probably coached about half of our league. He is actually the one who tells me I need a new ball the most. He does fall into the same problem i'm dealing with with the other people with the problem of who to trust. I have looked into some of the storm balls that were recommended (hy-road seems most popular) and the ball is cheap enough to afford. I think i will ask the Pro shop guy i trust most with the 3 most recommended balls from you guys (Hyroad, crossroad and frantic) and see what he says. thanks for the help though everyone

When I jumped back in a few years ago, I bought a Freeze. Great entry level ball. It did the trick until I figured out exactly how I want to bowl, and what kind of ball I really needed. I still have it, and use it. It's a spare ball nowbut when the lanes get dry it makes for a great strike ball.
