I was told that 200 and above bowlers on league, amount to only 3 percent of the bowlers in the USA. Is there a figure on that statement? That figure seems low to me?

Would "bowlers" be considered casual bowlers or league bowlers?

I was told by a X PBA bowler, now owns a pro shop that the league sanctioned bowlers that hit the 200 mark, are only 3 percent! I can't find a chart to back that figure! I wounder what that average for men and women is? Actually I was not told that, but a good friend said HE was given that number? I thought 200 and above for men would be much higher then 3 percent!

I haven't ran across anything current, the last I saw put it about 10 percent. That was a few years back so I'll guess maybe closer to 15% now.

But the figures could get skewed, because as usbc membership drops. The ones most likely left will be the higher averages, so the percentage of 200 averages would go up. Because of the loss of lower average bowlers.

Now if your talking local leagues statistics, it could be way different than the national stat's.

In the 2006-07 season there were roughly 7,900 averages in the Central Connecticut Bowling Association and 980 were over 200 and 156 topped 215. My guess is that this may (or may not) be indicative of the national average. If so, this equals 12.4%. That being the case, I would suggest that 3% is dreadfully low. I would even suggest that this percentage has gone up since 2007.

That was my first thought Jay!! Seemed very low to me! With the equipment we have now days on a house pattern....?? I would have thought around 10 percent or so! I just wondered if there was a hard figure out there for sanctioned league play, Women, and men! I will be having a ball drilled by that pro soon.
He, (this pro) use to travel with the tournaments, and drill for other pro's. He has a pro shop at Strike/Spare her in town! He seems to know his stuff, in regards to drilling a ball to suit your style of bowling! I will find out if indeed he did pass that information on,,, maybe I have the number wrong!

I was going to say with todays equipment and skilled bowlers on house shots it has to be higher

Ya 3% in like the PBA experience leagues might sound a little believable but no way out of all leagues
