View Full Version : An unfortunate break from bowling

Well I have to stop bowling for a while after losing a fight with a table saw. I'll probably permanently lose a nail on my index finger which also has a bone broke in two places, but shouldn't lose any use of my fingers. Moral of the story? They put those safety guards on for a reason.

Sounds like nothing seriously bad happened! At least you'll be able to bowl soon right??? How long do you expect you'll be out??

You could always practice with your weaker hand. ;)

Good luck stroker! If anyone understands hand injuries it's me as I totally shattered mine and had to leave the game for two years before coming back with a backup ball throw now. I wish you a fast and full recovery

Thanks guys, I go see a hand specialist tomorrow and will know more then. My middle finger has a chunk of flesh ripped out of the side but should heal up in time. That is what will preclude bowling for a while. Most of the damage is to my index finger so even worse case scenario if I do lose some range of motion it shouldn't affect my release too much. Who knows, my rotator cuff surgery eliminated a lifelong slice from my golf game, maybe this will help me pick up that $&@&$&!! Ten pin lol.

Hopefully you haven't damaged too much. Heal quickly so you can get back this season. While you are healing, and just to stay near the game, offer to help coach the kids leagues in your house. That might keep your mind off of missing it while helping the kids.

Good Luck.

The doctor said the tendon that straightens my index finger was severed and will have to be re-attached and a couple of temporary pins put in place until everything heals but should be back to normal eventually. I go for surgery tomorrow. Local anesthetic and outpatient so all in all could be worse

I hope all turns out well for you Chris!!! ,,,,, and Heal FAST!! Let us know how things are going!!!

This just gives you a reason to learn how to bowl left handed.

Sorry about the injury though, sounds like it could have been much worse though.

The funny thing is I am left handed. I write, eat, shoot pool and soot a rifle left handed. Everything else, including all sports I do right handed. I tried bowling left handed but it was a disaster.

Try bowling Left hand backup?

Anyway, good luck with your surgery, let us know how it goes :)

Good luck with surgery and heal quickly. Don't leave us all hanging either. Even if it means pecking the keyboard with your left hand, don't abandon us.

Typing is not a problem, I use a stylus on my IPad. Tying shoes and buttoning my pants is interesting without the use of the index and middle finger of the right hand

Just got home. The person ahead of me was a more difficult case than expected. My surgery went well. The doctor said it was a little like putting a jigsaw puzzle together, but all the most important peices were there. He thinks I will make a full recovery, but probably won't have a future as a hand model. It may be a little while before I am healed up enough to throw a bowling ball, but he sees no reason that I won't be able to make another comeback. Thanks everybody for your concern. You're a great bunch of guys.

Good NEWS!! Take care and heal as quick as possible!!! Eat Right, drink plenty of fluids, and get that liquid bottle of Glucosammine, (joint movement), extra strength, made by Wellesse! Sold at Sams, Costco, or even walmart. Much better deal at Costco/Sams! (larger bottle and better price).
It also has chondroitin and MSM! The great part about the MSM is that its a natural (no side effect) pain killer that has good properties for you body... read about MSM on net.
I have been using the stuff for many years, and its what keeps me ticking! It would help heal you many times faster also! Good luck with the healing process! Dr. Iceman lol

Just a quick update. The pain had eased off to the point I didn't need the pills they gave me anymore but it started back up last night so I had to get up and take one. Maybe had something to do with the temperature drop. Mid forties here in Georgia last night, where it had been in the 60's at night. Anyway, pain can be a good thing because at least I know there is not much nerve damage. I didn't get into details Friday because of being so tired but the doctor basically wired my finger back together and inserted 2 temporary pins like (as he put it) a shish-kabob. He left the end of the pins sticking out so they can be removed later when things have healed up some. Then the index and middle fingers were wrapped, covered with plaster, and then bandaged to prevent movement and the possibility of knocking the end of those pins against something. I go back to check on progress on the 4th. Thanks for all the concern and well wishes, and I'll keep you all updated.

google MSM,,, you can take good amoundts of it for pain, with no side effects! I take 3 large tablets a day! GREAT STUFF to take extra amounts of while healing. I take it for a number of reasons, and again NO SIDE EFFECTS.... Check into it ,,, it will help in your healing process.

DMSO is GREAT stuff I used on my 32 stiches after my surgery for my appendix. Kills pain (naturally), and again no side effects. I use this remarkable stuff for many things including burns, contusions, score muscles, and to help heal injured tissue! Goggle it,,, would recommend a book by (I believe his name is Dr, Brown)! I put it on my stiches, after operation, and it healed twice as fast with very little inflammation! It’s remarkable stuff!!! Take care….

MSM is the tablet form of DMSO!

Just take Morphine! You'll feel good too when you use it. im just kidding.

Seriously, you can try tylenol with codeine. its pretty much tylenol but stronger since it has codeine in it.

MICHAEL

Lol Michael your knowledge of pharmaceuticals is a little bit scary......

Scary??? Lol…. I have good debates with my sister and brother In-law that are both pharmacist! A pharmacist now days is a pill counter, in fact they have machines now that even do that! In the old days pharmacist where using the same natural things that mother earth gave us. I could go one for many, many pages about the FDA, corruption, and dangerous drugs they are putting on us, but I don’t have to!
Just watch a commercial on any of them,,, ITS LAUGHABLE!! Or would it be better to say SAD! Its all about MONEY,,,, and you are a vessel they use to make Billions of dollars!
Yes, I have many,,,, many books on natural healing remedies, that have NO SIDE EFFECTS if used properly! Knowledge is POWER my friend.
All a doctor knows about a durg is what he is told by rep’s like my son who works for a major drug suppler. They are not chemist, and have very little back ground in that field, they rely on the vary companies that stand to profit from pedaling their drugs. Are all drugs bad,,,, no,,,, but one should weight the (tainted research done by the companies), that submit it to the FDA for a Stamp of approval.
The FDA does not research the medication, they look at the data given them by the company that’s marketing it!!! (many people believe it’s the FDA that does the research…..!!! I could go on but I won’t
Going out to bowl!! lol

One other great healing formula I would higly recommend is: Original Blue-Emu super strength deep penetrating formula!

It will not only help with the pain, because it has MSM in the formula, it also is a great source of omega 3,6, and 9! I used it, with doctor approval on my stiches after my operation last year!

Its sold at Sams Club, couldn’t find it at Costco. Not cheap, 29.95, but works miracles! You will have less pain, and heal twice as fast because of its ability to fight inflammation! Hope your doing well! Ask your Dr, as I did, he approved of the use in my case!

Went back to the doctor today. X-rays looked good, some healing taking place, still a long way to go. He wants to leave the pins in for a few more weeks. At least I got that bulky cast off and now have a removable splint to protect the pins from bumps. The nurse amused herself while cleaning up the finger by showing me how the pin can rotate like a rotisserie lol.
