Ok I know that on my mission 2.0 it says that its 800 Abranet, 1000, 2000 Abralon Sanded Surface according to bowlingball.com. I asked the pro shop guy to give me otb surface and all he did was use 2000 abralon on it... when it says 800 Abranet, 1000, 2000 Abralon Sanded Surface should he have done it just like that for otb surface or am I wrong on this? Me and a friend was talking about this and I never thought of asking this sunday when I asked him to do it. The whole surfacing thing is new to me and honestly am still unsure what each one does but mostly wondering if thats how it was suppose to go or not... Thanks

All my experience with sanding is with wood or metal, and I haven't gotten to the point of playing with different surfaces on my bowling balls. From what I've read, when a bowling ball is sanded the higher grits do not completely eliminate the sanding marks from the lower grits as you would try to do in wood finishing. There is probably some difference between your ball and a true OTB surface. It may be that, given the number of games on your Mission 2.0 the one pass with 2000 grit is close enough.

Technically yes, if you want to go back to the O.O.B surface you would do all the steps. Especially if you have changed the surface on the ball before.

If the ball was at the O.O.B. to begin with and you just want to freshen it up and Depending on how much you have used it.
You can get away just hitting it with the 2000, maybe every 10 games.

But you can't keep doing that, about every 30 games you should do all the steps.

You can buy the pads and do it yourself too. I do mine after deep cleaning them while they are still in the water. Nothing wrong with hand sanding. It takes more effort but less money and then you at least know all the steps were done.
I've just finished my daughter's tonight and getting ready to add the rough buff polish.

billf i'm just wondering this where is a site that can tell you how to properly do it with out a spinner because i was thinking of doing it and i don't got a spinner but i don't want to do it wrong eather and mess it up and maby have to do it all over again or take it to the proshop and use the spinner there cause then i will have to wait till the proshop guy gets ready for mine after he dose other peoples like hes always packed for the first 5-8 weeks when bowling starts.

that's the other reason for me being there i help people out if they need a new ball or for when we will resurface there bowling ball drill a new ball witch i dont do(not ready yet) but like i get everyone's names and add them to the list untill the list is empty and everyone knows we are always packed.

so if you know any sites on how to do it properly and so i don't mess up that will help thanks.

Yes. The water helps keep the pads clean which increases their life.

So billf, you're too cheap to support your local proshop? Kill two birds with one stone and do it in the shower. Doing it by hand is uneven and you cannot create enough pressure without a spinner. I would highly recommend you take it down to your proshop and have it done properly.

damn...if we're supposed to put some surface on our balls every 10 games, that would mean that every night i bowl i'd have to get the surfaced re-done.

Well EMWproshop I do not know how your shop is or whatever but there has been quite a few complaints about ours. Sad part he is the only shop besides the other one owned by the same company... I know of one guy who does some drilling out of his house and resurfaces the ball. I have heard bout soe pro shops and how awesome they are but locally here I havent been the most impressed so bill might have the same issue or his proshop is a bit a ways

While there can be a unevenness doing it by hand and you should have it done by the proshop at least once in a while.

Basic cover changes can done by hand.

As for "you cannot create enough pressure without a spinner" enough pressure for what? The hand pressure applied on a ball on the spinner isn't any greater than doing it without one.
