Hey guys,
I'm really new to bowling and I just wanted to know what would be a good Ball upgrade for me. unfortunately I injured my finger last night during a bowling match. I want this ball to be much heavier and can perform much more the hook. I'm joined a bowling league the other day and I'm looking forward to joining my high school team when the local bowling alley opens up. I'm looking into it a DV8 ball. All input is appreciated!!!

Wait till the new DV8 Nightmare come out and buy it! or if you can't wait, then just get a hellraiser terror or revenge

Here's a list of balls!

Roto Grip-Defiant or beserk
Columbia-Violent Eruption
DV8-Hellraiser or Murader
Storm-Lucid,!Q or Vivid
Brunswick-neXus Solid or C-(system)Maxxed Out
900 Global-Train,Frieght Train or Sure Thing
Track-912T,706A,716C or T,or 508A

All these are good balls and i'm sure 1 of these or maybe one of the new balls coming out will suit your needs for whtever condition you bowl on.. I have the Defiant, beserk,neXus Solid & 508A and they all suit my needs for whatever lane condition I encounter.

Good luck in your choice!

If the ball has a potential to hook alot, is it easier to learn how to hook? Or does it make it more difficult.

This has made me wonder.. ball companies keep coming out with balls the hook more and more. More hook more hook. But does that mean they require more oil too? I mean none of these monster hook balls work on medium oil right?

A ball with a higher potential will be easier to hook. It will also be much more difficult to control. The unofficial Bowling Boards recommendation for new bowlers, (or old bowlers looking to learn how to hook after years of throwing it straight) is to get an entry level reactive resin ball with a fingertip grip. After we get you hooked on bowling, ( pun intended ) then you can think about getting a more aggressive ball that matches the lane conditions that you usually bowl on.

I have the freeze ball and I love the feel, I just got the oil cleaned off it to get a better hook. But it's really light, it's 12 lb.'s I wanted to buy a 14 lb ball for my next one.

In theory the more hook potencial a ball has,the more oil it will need. With that being said their are always exceptions to the rule! I have 2 heavy oil balls Brunswick neXus Solid and Roto Grip Defiant. The Defiant I have used in light oil all way up to heavy oil with no problems. On the other hand the neXus Soild the way it's drilled I can not use it on any lane condition other then a sport pattern.

You can use any heavy oil ball for medium oil depending on how it is drilled!

Hand position, rev and speed control also have an effect on how a heavy oil ball reacts on drier than desired conditions. If you are going to bowl in high school then you will be bowling on different oil patterns than the usual house shot. Do you know your bowling style? Any chance of getting a video so we can better match a ball to you? DV8 makes a great variety of balls (as do some other companies). Any questions about DV8 just fire away!
