Is a ball sold as polished just covered with a coating that can come off fairly easily?

I have here a bottle of ball polish by Brunswick that I bought when I was new to bowling and mistook as ball cleaner. Is that the same kind of polish? Do I just put some on a towel and rub it all over? How long does this polish last? Will a mainly isopropyl alcohol based cleaner remove the polish immediately?

I actually think I want to polish all my balls so they go longer and store more energy.

Just gave my balls a couple coats of polish (put it on, rubbed it around, took a different rag then smoothed it out) and I am surprised how different my Modern Marvel looks. I really hope this helps it get down the lane and snap.

The polish will last a while, unless you throw the ball with a lot of revs and speed on conditions where you burn up the ball with a lot of friction. Each company has their own line of polish, but,it's basically the same thing. I used to use carnuba wax/car polish in the late 80's til I took a hiatus in 2000. You polish the ball like you would a car! Alcohol will not remove the polish, you will need to sand off the polish. It will go longer and snap in backend with polish!

Ok cool. I still want it to be strong but just go longer.

If you notice the ball not going as long after many games then just add another coat of polish. I usually throw around 18 mph with 400+ revs and my polish lasts until I deep clean and resurface the ball.

Cool. I am excited. I polished all my balls since I loved how my damage reacted last week.
Modern Marvel polished should relatively be similar to the Marvel Pearl right?
If I ever bowl on a heavy oil/long pattern I'll sand it out.

A pearl is a type of coverstock. It should react somewhat similarly though. Hope it works how you want. I have been toying with the notion of polishing my Nexxus. Don't have a reason to other than for research purposes :)
