Today was another amazing day of bowling.
:D
I hit a wooping 245! New high score for me, as well as a 600 series. :D Games were 188, 245, and 191 I also struck out 5 strikes on the last game.
One thing I learned was, why learn how to bowl an entirely different way, when you have something that works. I don't care what anyone say's, but I am not converting to 3 finger. I'm sticking to my technique, and I will become one of the fellow PBA bowlers with a unique style.

If it works for you, then do it! PBA pro Tom Daugherty bowls this style by the way, so if you make it to the PBA you won't be alone.

Nice game. Your only ten pins away from my high of 255. I bet you will beat my high within the next couple weeks. Keep up the great bowling.

Nice, congrats Sam. I got your back, I'm 31 and I bowl two fingers. I have a 195 average, and it goes up every week. Stick with it man, and get so good at it you make others want to do it.

Really I've seen some videos of him bowling, but I didn't notice he bowls with 2 fingers :O
I thought Mike Miller was the only PBA bowler I knew that played that way,
I'm going to recheck some of his videos out thanks

Unfortunatly most of the videos of Tom Daugherty are that infamous 100 he bowled at the TOC last year. It sucks cause he may be the best 2 finger bowler out there, and has only had one TV apperance, and it was dismal. No one remembers that he averages 217 that week over 71 games, just that he had the lowest score on a TV broadcast. Look up Jim Pratt as well, he also bowl two finger and also qualified for the TOC this year.

Yeah I watched that video, I was a bit surprised, but then I remembered it isn't just any regular shot. It's not as easy as everyone thinks. I couldn't really find anything other video than that, and his 300 video. His 300 video doesn't really show a good angle, but you can tell he throws with 2 fingers. Jim Pratt, I couldn't find a video of him bowling, it was an extra frame video but he was being blocked by Miia Kila something

Well Daughtery (sp?) just gave a big boost to the no-thumb crowd. Awesome to watch.

yeah he won the tournament!
But, Daughtery isn't my idol for 2 finger bowling, Mike Miller is..

I'm still trying to figure out how he held onto that ball in the one game where he stopped at the line.

it seriously looks like he is just palming the ball impressive hand strength

I agree that was impressive. I know with my spare ball I can pick it up just by the finger tips. I dont know if I could stop mid thow like that though.

He is so far underneath the ball he just basically kept swinging without flexing the wrist and kept it cradled.

Ya gotta stick with what works for you. I've tried two finger as well as two finger/two handed bowling and for me it was just not a good mix. But as I said before if it works for you, then go for it. Nothing in the rule book says you have to use your thumb for anything more than flashing a thumbs up to the crowd after you've bowled yet another strike! :)

I can pick up a 15# ball with 2 fingers out of the rack, but I know I can't do that. If I tried, that ball would have ended up in the crowd. The fact he was able to do that showed just how strong he is, and how solid his grip is. It is something that most 2 finger bowlers don't have, a secure grip. Even the ones who think they do, I would be willing to bet they don't have nearly the grip they think they do . I know that there is a big difference with my glove on, and off, and there is a big difference with a 14# and 15# ball. That's why I have my first 14# strike ball on they way, because I am trying to take my thumbless game to the next level, and I don't have enough of a grip on my 15's to do what I need to.

It's not bad to use two fingers and no thumb, it is just inconsistent and increasingly difficult for spare shooting. I would recommend going to a two handed style to get that stabilizer that you would normally get with adding the thumb.

Also, a lot of great no thumbers use it when they shoot spares. Do whatever you can to get a good spare game down. Practice them more than anything else and you will see your scores go even higher.

Is it illegal to use 2 fingers, then switch to 3 to pick up a spare?

I am a much better spare shooter without my thumb in. It's one of the reasons I went back to not using my thumb. Tried 2 handed, felt I was better one hand no thumb. I can do things without my thumb in that I can't with my thumb. I'm not just talking about bigger hook either. I can throw it straighter without my thumb as well, a plastic ball, a little speed, and I can throw it almost dead straight. I can make more speed adjustments without my thumb, I can adjust axis a little better as well. I can even vary the rev rate a little. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm just better without my thumb, for now at least.

Not at all, in fact Tom Daughrety was doing it in the tournament. Osku Palermaa goes from two hand, no thumb, and throws most spares one hand, thumb in.

It's not illegal BUT don't confuse PBA rules with USBC rules. In the PBA they can bowl any ball any style, any hand at any time. Not so with the USBC.

Glad to hear a fellow thumbless staying true!
It sounds like people forget that not the right way works for everyone, just like in any sport.
I plan on sticking thumbless but I am also learning how to play with the thumb though just to have it in the back up for when I can't seem to get it together like Tom Daugherty

The thing I love about the thumbless technique, is that if you put your thumb in, you'll naturally have a straight shot.
For my spares now I am using 3 fingers, but my strike shot is released by 2 fingers
