I was practicing not long ago and because of upper 70s outside with high humidity sliding on the approach was far from good. If I did slide it seemed like I only slid 2 or 3 inches. I heard of some people using a sliding sock on their slide foot in humid conditions to get a better slide. Are those legal and has anyone here used one?

The pro shop sells a shoe slipper that goes over the toe of the slide shoe. They work pretty well!

If the approach is sticky, I just switch to my #10 sliding sole on my interchangable shoes and I'm good. That's why I bought the shoes with the velcro soles.

Yes they are legal.

I don't use one, but a lot of the people I bowl with have one. I haven't heard any complaints, they seem to work just fine.
