ok, so on Saturday i went to clean my glasses just before practice started for league, and the screw holding the left lense in broke! so my mother being the great person she is ran them over to the sear's where we got them to get fixed, but in the mean time i had to bowl the first game blind! and well... it was interesting somehow i was able to string strike after strike together, and even when i left a pin, i made all but 1 spare! (big 4) so, by the end of game one i had a 243! just as the second game began my mother walked in with my newly repaired glasses and well.. i wish she hadn't lol my scores dropped to 164 and 180, still good games but no 243 lol

I find it so strange, i wasn't able to see my target, and only knew i had a strike after seeing the white blob disappear lol but somehow i threw the best game of my life

Next week take your glasses off and bowl 3 games and let us know how you did!

On an interesting level, not seeing the pins clearly forced you to have perfect mechanics for the 1st game. During the 2nd & 3rd games however you were not focused. Very interesting theory here! Ok 75lockwood,no use of glasses next week in leagues. We must test this theory!

Good luck & good scoring!

Could it have something to do with focusing on your mark rather than looking at the pins? I know a lot of people swear they look at their mark, but they take their eyes off the mark and look at the pins causing bad things to happen.

Guilty and also have caught myself looking at a different board as I release the ball. The wondering eye!

Lol, i've been told :) i think i'll try it in practice at some point this week, perhaps tomorrow after i finish book keeping from my league i'll throw a few games blind....

i Doubt it, i'm so blind without my glasses that i can't see the arrows lol

i do tend to look up before the ball hits the mark sometimes, but i do watch it untill my release is over at the very least.

I think i may be me not rushing (don't wanna face plant since i can't see) lol

Closing your eyes is a old training tip. That's why I liked moonlight bowling, you really had to focus.

Bowling Tip #12

To really improve your consistency, try this: close your eyes after your second step. Once you close your eyes the imprint on your mind will be of whatever you saw last - in other words, your target! It becomes your whole focus and you'll be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to hit it. After you've let the ball go, open your eyes. You'll see the ball roll right over that target. When you are used to the feeling of closing your eyes and you accept you're not going to step off the edge of the flat earth, you'll be able to concentrate on other things. You can really FEEL your armswing or release or cadence or slide or power step or whatever you have chosen to concentrate on for that shot. A very eye-closing experience!

lockwood ik what you mean i had to do that at a turnny once before my glasses also got fixed and i could not get them repaired till the end cause i had no clue what was out in this town and where and did not want to drive around in circles but i did good missed a few pins cause i could see 1 and not the other but my first game was great a 211 then leaving 10pins in the 2nd game missed half of them only got a 161 and third game 181

If you wear bifocals or trifocals then get a pair with just your distance prescription. When I got my sight back I wore my only pair of glasses, trifocals, and my average plummeted 30 pins. I e-mailed Fred Borden about this and he told me to get a pair with just the distance. It helped but I still bowl better blind. Part of it is not being able to see the gutter so I don't have the fear of the ball falling into it. Having to have somebody hand your ball to you does suck though. That's also when I started planting instead of sliding (face plant fear) and my balance went to hell but I could crank the crap out of it lol

Nope, don't where bi/trifocals, i tried them once, but couldn't stand em.

i will try the blind bowling again tonight, but also the tip 12 that bowl suggested. seems like we could be on to something here in regards to fixing my game!

You may be trying to concentrate too hard while bowling. This can be detrimental. Just relax, know your target but don't kill yourself over it. Besides, the break point is more important okay then the target anyway.

Yea Lol, i am very analytical in everything i do, needing to work off my other sense's definitely gave me some incite into how to bowl better, and i seem to be doing a lot better as a result.

I have glasses that I usually only use when I drive, but last week I wore them bowling. My buddy says to me "why are you wearing your glasses? You bowled better in your contacts." Dude, I don't wear contacts. BTW, he's an idiot cause I bowled my best series of the season that night.

Sounds like you should wear your glasses for more than just driving, what did you end up getting score wise?

are you sure it was the glasses? if you could see your target but still not hitting it then maybe its not the glasses that are to blame. LOL

well it is the glasses jsut got them last night and my eyes have not fully tranishend to them yet and every time my head moved alittle everything would go double vision but only for a second hard to hit target when that happens.

I see, fair enough. if you are going double vision you may need to take them back, i don't think i ever had this happen, even when i got glasses for the very first time

yeah my eyes are getting better with them on not as much blurriness now i get the double vision once and awhile and i like these glasses because know i can read signs that are farther away like my old glasses i would be like 400 meters away from a mc,donalds and i could barley see the big sign it was blurry but with these glasses i can see the little sign on the window clear as day as if i was 50 feet away.

Speaking of bowling blind, here's me bowling in my non-prescription sunglasses. It was the last game of the day and I was pretty much sucking anyway, so I figured what the hell.

LOL, all i have to say is awesome!

well that and i noticed a few things.... that first miss where you left 3 standing and the next one where you got the Brooklyn you missed about the same amount, just happened that the second time it worked in your favor lol

the other thing i noticed was how based on the overhead scores each shot you showed was at a different part of the games lol not back to back at all :D

never the less, looked awesome and pdw obviously has the whole pba rigged

There is no place for booty shaking in bowling!!! Kidding of course (apparently I have to note that now or the fun police wll report me.) Is it part of his pre shot routine? I've seen guys, and girls, do some wacky things getting ready to bowl. There's a girl in our league, she grabs her ball, walks to her mark, then swings her leg, and the ball into starting position. She has more motion in her pre shot then most people do in their entire delivery.
