As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour kicked off its “Extreme Swing” this week with the Ultimate Scoring Championship in Taylor, Mich., Nov. 9-11. The finals air on ESPN Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. EST.

Players will not only earn PBA Tour points in the five events that make up the “Extreme Swing,” but there will also be a separate points list kept for those events. The top eight players in the “Extreme Swing” will earn an automatic berth into the Six Flags Summer Series which will be held during summer 2009 at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, N.J. and will once again air on ESPN.

Following are the five events that make up the “Extreme Swing,” which features unique and creative formats:

Ultimate Scoring Championship, Taylor, Mich. – Nov. 9-11, air date Nov. 23: It spotlights incredible scoring potential of the world’s greatest bowlers on a “house shot” lane condition found in most league bowling today
GEICO Plastic Ball championship, Wheat Ridge, Colo. – Feb. 18-22: This format limits each pro to two identical, plastic bowling balls to be provided by the PBA putting every player on the same level in terms of equipment.
Etonic Marathon Championship, Indianapolis, Ind. - Feb. 23-March 1: With 54 games of total pins across all of the PBA’s six lane oil patterns, this is the most grueling qualifying event of the year, testing an open field’s stamina and versatility.
Don Johnson Buckeye State Eliminator, Columbus, Ohio - March 2-8: This unique eliminator format puts the importance on survival, and best of all creates a TV format that better illustrates the qualifying format used to decide the final four. After three qualifying rounds, the top 16 players will be divided into four Eliminator Groups, with each bowling a series of two-game total-pin matches with the low scoring bowler eliminated in each round, until one survivor remains from each group.
Go RVing Match Play Championship, Norwich, Conn. - March 18-22: This event ranks 64 players based on the PBA Tour points list at that point in the season. This tournament runs at the same time the NCAA basketball March Madness tournament has the attention of the sports world, and the PBA uses the same 64-man bracket format as the NCAA to bring the ultimate excitement to every match because it’s all about winning and advancing.
“One of our goals in this our 50th Anniversary Season is to test our players in as many unique formats as possible,” said PBA Commission and CEO fred Schreyer. “In doing that, the Extreme Swing will showcase our players tremendous skills in ways that will thrill and entertain our fans. The debates that these events will generate among fans will be great for our sport.”

The Six Flags Summer Series will feature 16 of the world’s greatest bowlers who are drafted into a rare team event held outdoors on specially-constructed lanes. The Summer Series first began in 2007 with games played outside at a Six Flags in St. Louis and this past summer they were held at Six Flags Great America near Chicago.
