I measure my foot as which board is directly underneath the center of my left foot.

I do the same as well, but I have seen people who take it a step further by using a sharpie to draw a line on the center of the toe of the sliding shoe. Some people will also use a piece of tape on the shoe with a mental reminder like "slow down" or "smooth and easy" written on it.

I Personally Line up the inside of my left foot with the board, after picking up the ball i slide my shoe onto my mark (make sure i didn't step in something sticky) then bring my feet together and prep for approach. in my opinion using the side of your foot is easier and no need for a sharpie :p

I'm alone in this then? I guess it doesn't matter what reference point on your foot you use as long as you don't change.

I'm with you 75. If I'm "standing on the 23 board", the right edge of my left foot is on the right edge of the 23rd board.

All that really matters is to be consistent with your system whether its the side of the shoe, the toe of the shoe, or a reference line drawn on the shoe. The only problem is communicating with someone using a different reference point.
Like you I use the inside of my shoe at its widest point, i.e. the ball of the foot, except I use my right foot.

Woot, more people like me!
If you think about it, because. We use the inside edge of our feet, which foot you line up doesn't matter since you put your feet together anyway.

I have seen some people who have a significant amount of space between their feet for whom it would make a difference. For me, I line up my right foot first and then bring my left foot over next to it, regardless of which hand I'm bowling with.

With my knees being so bad it's more like my heels are together and the right foot points out lol. I use the big toe of my left foot when bowling right handed. Opposite when bowling left handed.

Consistency is the name of the game. You'll still make adjustments based on what the ball is doing and moving the feet the same amount of boards. I wear Dexter shoes and line up the center of my left shoe with the board I want to be on. Theres a little strip of leather there and thats' my alignment tool.

I look at the board adjacent to the outer edge of my shoe. I add 5 boards to determine where the ball is.

(For Righthanders) Lining up the inside of the left foot with a board is a common frame of reference used for where you stand in most discussions and is what is usually assumed the bowler is doing.
They show it in the "USBC Bronze Manual"
Starting Point – Stance: Paying attention to the details helps your athletes improve their ability to play the lanes. A point of reference, or where the athletes start on the approach, must be determined first. The athlete must note the board that the non-ball side foot starts on the approach. Since the bowler releases the ball standing on this foot, it is important to know where the foot begins in the stance.
To determine the location of the foot, the bowler uses the inside edge of the slide foot, as shown below in Figure 8-6, Starting Point. This illustration depicts a right-handed bowler’s foot lined up with the 20th board.

But as long as you do it consistently, you could use whatever method you want.
Me I use the inside of the left foot.

Consistency is the name of the game..... I use my right foot, but always use the same spot. My Dexter shoes are black with a silver stripe down the center which happens to be almost the same size as 1 board. So I line my right foot up with the silver stripe. I guess I am fine until I buy a new pairs of shoes!

I use the center of the toe of my shoe to align myself. I am left handed so when I start out I put the center of the toe of my right shoe on the center dot and adjust from there.
