View Full Version : How are bowling balls made to have different weights?

I was just thinking about that today. What is changed in a bowling ball to make it different weights like 12, 13, 14, 15, 16lbs.? They all have the same circumference and diameter. Is the core weight changed? I just was wondering. Can anyone shed some light on this?

i believe they put a different ratio of something in the shell.

The weight is changed by variations of the filler material and the other high-density materials used in the ball core. Not by changing the coverstock material.
Ball filler is a lighter, less dense substrate that enables the manufacturer to make the weight block out of more dense material.

I think it's funny that bowling ball sites always show cores to look interesting and metallic but they're all some type of resin.

That first video states that it is varying concentrations in the COVER that makes the difference in weight....
