I threw my new DV8 Nightmare last night. It is a great hard hitting ball but it isn't as aggressive as DV8 marketed it to be. I have the layout but I forgot it at home today. I will let you guys know how my pro shop guy drilled it. I was bowling on the Kegel Highway to Hell sport shot last night. I'm left handed and I was playing down 5ish and it was coming back nicely but, like I said, not as aggressive as I thought. It will not be replacing my Virtual Gravity like I thought it was going to but it will be a nice ball to fit in between my polished Hammer Road Hawg and Virtual Gravity.

Highway to hell is a very flat pattern, the balls aren't going to be turning hard.
Did you throw the Virtual Gravity on it to see how it compared to the Nightmare?

Nope. I probably should have but I was obsessed with the Nightmare... I'll throw the Nightmare tomorrow in practice for a league which is a THS. If it's too much ball, I'll come back here and admit it. :) I don't like comparing balls on THS because I bowl mostly on sport/collegiate. I also sanded down my Virtual Gravity to 360 with 500 over the top so that ball is starting to hook in my back swing.

I threw the Nightmare last night on a THS because I got asked to sub. Without practice, I threw 202, 257, 279 for 738. It was easily controllable and it seemed to go long before breaking for the pocket. I think this has to do with the drill because I don't think the ball was intended to go long before it hooked. The pro shop I had it drilled at said it ended up being drilled with a 5" pin. I think the drill was 45x5x55 with no hole if that helps.

a 5" pin isn't the most aggressive drilling layout you could have, but it is a nice enough one. The Nightmare seems to work well for you on that THS. It is DV8s most aggressive ball, that and the Marauder Madness. I have seen them in action and it is impressive.

I am super impressed with the ball but I do not think it is that aggressive. It is a GREAT ball on medium to medium long patterns for me the way mine is laid out but when i get on super long and heavy, i will still be using my virtual gravity. I'm thinking this is due to the drill though especially if you say that that layout isn't the most aggressive layout. I'm not exactly sure I know enough about layouts to be able to point fingers at DV8 or the pro shop that drilled the ball but it is definitely my favorite ball in the bag. I bowl tonight on another THS league that is considerably lighter oil and I will see how that pans out with the Nightmare.

One thing you can remember easily enough, the pin distance is a good indicator on hook potential for a layout. A 3-4" pin distance from your PAP has the most flare potential (strongest), and the further away in either direction you go, the weaker the flare potential is. I usually prefer 4-5" unless it is a weaker ball then I like to go stronger.

Definitely the most aggressive ball I have thrown. Much more aggressive than my Vivid and NeXXus out of box. I'm really not shooting well with it right now though. It's frustrating the hell out of me. I like the reaction, but I'm having a hard time consistently hitting my mark with the ball. Practiced with it earlier today and shot 235 first game, then struggled the next two with it. Switched to my Too Reckless and was shooting great (230s-260s) and nailing my target. Switched to the Nightmare one more time before I left and shot 244 and 268 (first 8 strikes, 10 pin in 9th, 10 pin on 11th shot) my last two. Hopefully I can starting shooting better with it.

Jason, any chance that it's reading in the heads rather than clearing thus it won't go out far enough? But being a bowler, you can at times force it out but the drive through the pins ends up being weak? If the Too Reckless can use the same line without an issue then I would bet it's too dry for the Nightmare.
I was having the same issue with the Terror and ended up using the Reckless and Misfit on the same line with no problem. Sometimes the ball we want to use isn't the ball we should be using.

Yeah, it's a much different line with my Too Reckless than with my Nightmare. I've got the Nightmare drilled pretty aggressive. It has a lot of back end which I wanted. I might end up polishing it, IDK.

Two guys I'm friends with bowl collegiately and work at the alley. They're having a fundraiser where you purchase raffle tickets. Each member will have at least one winner, more depending on entries. Combined they are up to five winners. I already told them I want a Nightmare, Marauder Madness and the Marauder. I figure with the number of tickets I purchase I should win at least once. I have until the 16th to get more lmao.
