at my start point i set my ball in my left hand while my fingers where in it and threw it on the lane that way so i was already in hand shake position but was just going over the top with it it seemed to work only reason i did that was cuz i wasn't getting any type of reaction i was about a foot an half forward from where i normally start so my ball speed should have lowered

Is it wrong? Yes. Does it work? Sometimes. It doesn't really add revs but can alter the axis rotation.

no......the best way, and easiest, is to cock your wrist. Think of it this way...if your thumb is at 12 o'clock (fingers will be at 6 o'clock. Now rotate your hand so your thumb is at 1 o'clock and your fingers at about 9 or 10 o'clock. Keeping your wrist straight, no bend, this is the easiest way to change your axis roll.
