WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE BIGGER? HOW ABOUT SOME VIAGRA!
OK kidding.
I felt like my thumb hole was letting my thumb slip off regardless of how much tape was in there so I went in and dremeled out enough to go from reverse pitch to forward pitch.. dremel'd so much off there is no more slug left part way down.
The weird thing is that before the ball felt heavy, now I can hold the ball with just my thumb and it feels light.

couple things, first this is a family forum so get rid of that first part of your post, second, I'm not sure how good of an idea working on your ball yourself was.... (I wouldn't do it) but hey, if it worked thats good for you :p

Thats not good! I would take it to the pro shop and make sure you didn't damage the ball and it is proper fit without causing long term problems.

Somehow I have a hard time picturing a family of mom dad and 6 year old kid sitting down to read these forums.

What Zothen said. You may have voided the warranty and you might injure your thumb when throwing it. I'd definitely have someone at the Pro shop look it over and ideally you should have the thumbhole plugged and redrilled to the correct pitch. If you think you're having problems with your release now, just wait - if you break your thumb or sprain it you'll really have a problem bowling.

You all gotta chill I didn't mess it up. No warranty was voided and not going to break a thumb. I padded it with tape anyway.
I want to get this redrilled anyway the layout sucks

OK well then good luck, and here's hoping I don't see a new thread by you saying "OMG my thumb looks like a grapefruit, what did I do?!?!"

And what may i ask makes the layout "suck" is it by chance because you don't get as many strikes as you think you should? Sorry, but layout should almost irreverent at your average, if it was laid out based on normail drilling practice the ball should be good enough to bowl and bowl rather well with... there is not secret layout that will make you a pro.
As for what you did to the ball, that is for all intensive purposes your issue to deal with, it is possible that what you did helped, but given the lack of experience, it could end badly (i wouldn't even think about doing this) there is also the fact that you used the wrong tool for the job, a dremel runs at a much higher speed then the bevel sanders pro shops use. if i were to try something like this, i would buy the sander (fairly cheap), read as much as i could on the subject, then experiment on a throw away ball. not something that should be done on impulse.

You are just taking this so seriously.
A dremel is not high speed it's adjustable speed. Im not 4.
The layout sucks because the layout sucks, im not completely oblivious.

This thread really needs a picture of the ball pre (if possible) and post dremel treatment. I gotta see this for myself.

Really now.. Shaving off part of a thumb slug isn't rocket science. People play with pitch all the time

Fair enough, I'm getting my new Marauder drilled next week, care to tell me what a sucky layout looks like so i can make sure the pro shop doesn't use it on the ball?

I'm not saying that at all, sure you have learned a lot, however being so arrogant as to say you know more than the proshop that did the layout on the ball is inappropriate....

You may be new to bowling and all, but even the most advanced and experienced bowlers go to the pro shop. I would honestly suggest going to one and making certain that it wont hurt your hand. The slightest wrong angle and you could sprain or even break something. Please be careful.

Ball9999-Were not trying to treat you like a kid! Were concerned that you dremeled half your thumb slug away to give yourself forward pitch and without the proper tools we don't want to see you hurt your thumb or ruin your ball. This is why I suggested taking it to a pro shop and have them make sure you have the forward pitch you want and that having half a thumb slug wont cause you any long term problems. If you want to work on your ball, that is your right, but, please make sure you do it properly is all i'm saying.

As for making changes to your thumb hole, there's no problem with that or how you did it. People have been doing that for years, as long as your careful.
As for if your layout sucks, if the ball isn't doing what you want and you don't match up with it then it does.
But given all the release problems you say you have, it would be hard for someone to make a accurate judgement on whether the ball is or isn't reacting properly.
As has been suggested in other posts, you need someone there. Someone who can watch you bowl and offer on site advice, a coach or pro shop guy or just a more experienced bowler who's willing to help. Just ask someone there.

Oh come on - honestly, what did you expect us to say? Wow, you're a genius for drilling into your $150+ bowling ball all by yourself? If you know better than everyone else in here who is telling you (rightly) that you probably jacked up your ball, and what you did could result in a serious injury, then why'd you even post this? You had to have known what people here would think of someone (who admitted in his own posts that he is struggling at bowling correctly) who suddenly decided to just on impulse pick up a dremel and start grinding away on their ball. You might as well have busted out the belt sander while you were at it and took the finish off the ball by hand, that's how crazy this is.

All I did was shave off part of a $10 slug. If I don't like it I can replace it. It's no big deal. How the hell did I jack up the ball?

Somehow that's not the impression I got from your first post but if that's all you did then I stand corrected. Hope it works out for you.

Ball99999, you made an adjustment to try something different. Congrats to you for having the guts to do it. Like the man said, it's only a $10 slug and no more barbaric than a bevel tool to shave it out. I think the first impression of the original post came across way more extreme in people's mind than he said or intended. As he posted, ALMOST to the point that there was no slug left at the bottom. At no point did he say the dremel went into the ball itself. Wow, I'm usually the first person that reads too much into Ball's posts and even I understood what he said and did this time.
Did you have a chance to bowl with it yet to see if it helped with your release and reaction?

Just re-posting in case you still have him blocked. If the pitch was off to begin with you may have all sorts of reaction now. Good luck!

Yep, I thought he had drilled into the ball itself, not a cheap slug so that's why I thought it was crazy, but now that he's clarified that, I stand corrected. Neither of my balls have slugs in the thumbhole, so when he said he dremeled the thumbhole, I was like OMGWTF!!! My bad...
