It's a great question. I used to, because it did help me concentrate, but sometimes it's hard to be social that way. And plus a few weeks ago, I was bowling in my Tuesday night league and this girl had her headphone wires out and I even called the shot..she caught the headphone wire, which took her iPod out of her jacket and sent the iPod down the lane, the iPod actually beat the ball down the lane, which the iPod made it the whole way down and I was shocked to find that it came back as it came, and it was still playing. I just always made sure my headphone wires were always under my shirt, so I never had to worry about it.

i was thinking about it doing it again, but then again. I'm picky about bowling with objects in my pockets, like I'm picky about not wearing pants while bowling anymore, like me only ever bowling in shorts. :p

yeah i bowl in short too but since its getting close to winter and know i wear track pants but there is a thing out dont know what it is called but you can plug it into your ipod and a thing into your ear and there is no cord so your ipod could sit on the table and you can still listen to it not sure where you can get them i have seen them once.
also there is another thing that clips onto your pant and you are still able to listen to music.

Yea... its not really "legal" every tournament i've been to they have said this specifically.... idk about usbc rules, but it does seem dangerous

It's only dangerous if you make it dangerous, in my opinion. Look at the PBA guys' who wear mics on tv, that could get in the way as well.

Its actually Illegal here in Australia
I assumed it was under the USBC also

Had a guy in my old league who did it, I'm not a fan. If your there for a social league, why be antisocial? If your practicing with a buch of kids running around, then I can understand.

Have been playing with the thought.. but never tried. I think i'd loose my ryhtem on the approache and backswing when listening to music. I'll give it a try, see what happens :)

The reason I asked, I've really never seen too many people doing it..I have done it in one of my leagues, where I knew, like two people in the bowling alley..but since I'm in three now, in a different bowling alley, in a different state, things are different. I usually play cards while bowling, so I'm forced to be social, not that it's a bad thing.

I bowl while listening to my ipod, it helps me with my concentration focus and it also helps me with my timing, and I really don't care about the socializing thing. If I want to talk I talk after or before the league. Over the years I have found when I am bowling well the opposite team will try to strike up a conversation to take me out of my game this usually occurs when I am at the approach. LOL. It doesn't take much for me to loose my focus so with the headphones on it lets them know I am not talking.

We had to pick up a new guy this year and little did we know, he bowls with headphones on. Most of the time if you're talking with him, you have no idea if he even hears you. I would think it would be distracting to have music on while trying to concentrate on what you're supposed to do. Personally, I don't like bowling with anyone that does it. Bowling is a social time as much as anything, and if you want to just listen to music, just go and practice.

Rather than an iPod I just fill the music thing up and let everyone hear what I will be singing. I prefer no music at all but that's not my call so I just go with the flow.

I to would rather silence (other than the bowling sounds ) Saturday morning i had just shot a turkey and was in the zone, i got up and a split second before my release the speakers were blasted above my head because the other league (stupid 5 pin) was doing announcements... it scared me and i yanked the ball.....just enough to get a Brooklyn! LOL

I never saw anybody do this until I started bowling in league again this year. He is averaging 220 so whatever floats his boat.

Definitely not. Who would want to bowl with wires hanging out all over the place? How do the PBA guys do it?

Wires are run inside their shirts, the only place its loose is from the collar to the ear, and that part is coiled so it can't flop around.
