What WEIGHT BALL do you use??

I know a few good bowlers that have well over 220 averages that use 14 lb balls, It would be interesting to know how many out there use what weight, that have 200 plus league averages! Please list the weight, and brand of ball if you would! I know some Big guys I know throw the 14, and swear that’s the reason their average jumped up from around 200,,, up 20 pins to 220 plus! I wonder what the reason would be, but I have seen some in action,,,,, and they make that ball work!!!

My 3 balls are 14s because the proshop guy said that would be best of me, But one of my team mates is saying i should get a 15 so i might get a 15 as some point

I am a 16lb guy, for both my balls. DV8 Marauder Madness and a Columbia Scout Reactive. I also throw around 18 mph with them so I don't think going down in weight will make much of a difference.

Sidenote - I am 6'3 and 275 lbs. So handling the extra couple pounds is no big deal.

I could see in a couple years moving down to 15 or 14 eventually. I am almost 30 so I have a few years left to use a little extra strength.

Used to bowl with a 16lbs ball. Now I have a 15lbs Storm Frantic, this week I'll have my 15lbs Ebonite The One, and I also have a 14lbs plastic ball.

He said that when he went form 16, to 15,,, then 14, his game went up with each move!

Michael I am wondering did he throw alot of speed? I have seen some big guys who throw no speed at all. And some small guys who throw tons of speed.

It's the whole mass * velocity equation. Your looking for the highest number when multiplied together.

But also the highest number that is the most accurate is where you want to be. A lighter/heavier ball may make your swing less accurate causing the extra velocity or heavier mass not make any difference or worse tons of difference.

i throw nothing but 15lbs i use storm 14 feels way to light and 16 feels way to heavy it's crazy how much difference one pound can feel.

I have a 16 lb. Columbia 300 Shadow/R and a 14 lb. plastic Sponge Bob ball. I sooooo need a new ball or two. Both are drilled conventionally and I want to plug my plastic ball and get it drilled fingertip and then get some other balls as well. Hopefully for Christmas along with a new bag and shoes. :) Hint Hint Hint AZBowla. LOL

15 lb

When I purchased my first balls they were all 13 lb. due to wrist strength and learning how throwing a fingertip ball. In the past year, my wrist got stronger and my ball weight has gone up to all 15 pounders. I didn't think I got very good pin carry out of the 13's and sheer sound of my 15's hitting the pocket makes me believe they work better. I could be mistaken and have not used those 13's properly...

I still have the videos that I took of AZBowla and him bowling. The ones that he posted on here, he specifically edited out the butt wiggle. LOL And yes his butt wiggle is so very cute. I love it, but then again I am his girlfriend. ;)

14 pounds have always been my weight of choice. I've never bought into the notion that you can't be a higher average with a lighter ball. If I throw the ball into the pocket with every shot, and have good accuracy on my spare shots, are you really going to tell me a 15/16 pound ball that's inconsistent is going to beat me? I'll take my chances... If I was throwing a 12 or lighter, I could understand it's not going to drive as well, but I think physics could probably prove that accuracy is much more important, and I've always felt best throwing the 14. I feel like I have to strain a little too much with a 15/16. Maybe I'm just weak.

I agree with your thoughts 100 percent! I threw a 14lb ball when I started bowling 2 years ago, and it honestly felt like a balloon with helium in it! I don’t get it??? This guy that is a 230 average bowler is a big guy, looks like a Pro Football player, but he said moving down, increased his average for a 200 bowler to a 230 bowler? I have bowled against him when he sub bowled this last summer! I will never forget it, His first game 279,,,, may first game 279! Lol,,,, we Manic went on to beat them that day, 3 to 2. But I was impressed with the speed, hook and angle he got with the 14lb ball!
