physical issues? I have. It seems like not long ago I had an average of 188 and could sometimes bowl all three games over 200. Now that I will be 66 in
two months and have osteoarthritis in both hips and knees all three things must be taking their toll. My games can be scattered from a 147 to 178. It use to be common for me to bowl games in the 180s and 190s on a regular basis. Games of 200 to 238 were common plus a few series over 600 during the year. I think my hips and and knees keep me from getting a solid foundation at the end of my slide step and release. I don't think that I am just going through a phase that I will come out of. Maybe this is my new reality. Anyone else experience a new reality like this? No matter what I am not giving up the game. I just have to accept this new phase. Who knows maybe I can crawl out from under this rut.

Heh, I'm 41 and I have noticed that I'm no where near as flexible and injury-resistant as I used to be. Michael's right, diet is extremely important, as is exercise. Keep those joints limber and flexible, and look into Glucosamine supplements to help with the osteo. My parents, who are about your age, swear by that stuff - it really helps.

My wife and I eat a healthy diet for the most part like fruits and vegetables and we don't drink soda. I am 5'6" tall and weigh 152 lbs. I don't smoke and just drink socially which means not often. I work as a currier for a company called Wilton Brands and deliver boxes that can be light or heavy like 50 lbs. We watch portion sizes also. I still try to do some exercising like doing chinups in my house or core exercises like bridges. So maybe I just need to get out more and practice because now that I am older I have to work harder with practices to be sharper.

Hammer a lot of the food we Have to consume today is JUNK,,,, PURE JUNK! Even the meat, chicken, and pork are toxic!! It all starts with them damn feeder lots where they pump them up with all kinds of toxic things in order to fatten them up for more profit! Most of our vegetables are GM products with poisons incorporated into the seeds to kill bugs when they eat the product!! Many fruits have very dangerous levels of poison, on and sometimes in the fruit!! I now pay more, for ORGANIC everything, stay away from all forms of sugar, (use STEVIA), and drink pure clean water! It has made a HUGE DIFFERENCE in my quality of life!! Go to this web site and get the free news letter from this DR. Marcolla.com! EVERYONE should check out this Web site in regards to having great health!! NO COST FREE!

If you don't mind some mild language, Louis C.K. can explain what you're experiencing. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey4WSb-BVDQ)

(all joking aside: My average hasn't changed much, but I DO notice pain a lot more as I edge closer to 30. I know you don't want to hear it, most will say, "Oh you're still young, blah, blah, blah..." and I don't blame anyone for that, BUT... The fact remains I do feel pain more from activities that never used to phase me at all. I honestly had to go to the doctor once because my wrist really hurt, and his response was (and I'm not joking at all), "Well, I'm afraid you're not 21 anymore. These things happen." Oh no...)

He must have gone to a different med school than my old doctor. When I was in my late thirties, he started telling me "you're not 18 anymore."

Being 64, and with many health issues, I have to say, My AVERAGE has been going UP! I think Mainly attributed to the fact that I will fight in any way, shape or form all things that try to put me down! I have always been a fighter that goes the route of NATURAL, not medical! Medical Doctors have called me an ENIGMA!! That’s a quote from a RA Doctor!

All you older, and younger bowlers out there have the power to make life changing decisions in regards to you health, which in turn affects your bowling!!!!! I know this to be true, because I am living proof! So start by going to DR. Marcolla’s web site, type in your problem, look at his GREAT advice and implement it!! There are other natural healing web sites, and one thing they all have in common, they will improve your health, and mobility, and in turn greatly improve your bowling!! All main stream medicine does in MOST cases it treat a symptom! I say, find out what’s causing the symptoms, and eliminate them!

IT WORKS!! Again I am living proof!! I have taken care of cholesterol, blood pressure, inflammation, pain, ra, lupus, herniated disk, broken neck, all with natural means! Sure when I had the broken neck in 1992, they wanted to operate, but after carefully going over all the options, I decided not to have the operation!!! Look at me now,,, bowling with all the young Wiper-snappers, and beating them 53.6 of the time!! lol

Things don’t have to get worse with age!! They can actually get better when you get YOUR LIFE STYLE IN ORDER!! Don’t take it for granted its just part of getting old, low bowling scores!! Give your body what it needs to heal itself!! Quit putting bad gas in the tank, and wondering why your body is not running like it use to!!! LOL…. Ooooo well,,, my older friend,,,, I don’t know about YOU,,, but I feel a lot better getting that off my chest!! (Which happens to be 48 inch’s of solid Ice!! Lol….. Iceman!

P.S. This web site has helped my game 1000 percent,,, great information!! Keep up the great work, and stay HEALTHY!!

It can actually go either way. Let's say a particular bowler had a very muscled release when they were younger. It was a bad habit to have so much muscle required in the swing, but they were able to compensate because they were young, limber and strong. Then one year they started the new bowling season and came to realize they just couldn't do it anymore. So they took lessons and learned how to bowl without muscling the ball. After some time to get used to the change, their average went way up! And then they asked themselves why they didn't swallow their pride and take lessons YEARS AGO.

I'm 44, and just back to bowling after 20 years off. I'm a medical provider and I'm pretty sedentary. Since I've come back I've got chronic wrist pain, knee pain and since last week, thigh pain. Went down to a 14 lb ball, wrist brace, etc. I really think the problem is not stretching on a regular basis. I've started a little stretching routine this week and I'll see how I feel Saturday.

Just because you can bowl in street clothes doesn't mean its not an athletic activity. I think you can access U.S. Bowler magazine through Bowlingball.com They had an article within the last year on stretches for bowlers. In fact, almost every issue has an article on conditioning for bowling.

Not me personally, but my dad is 69. He's still averaging 200+. He's got a knee replacement and no cartilage in the other. His scores are staying strong, but I have noticed a difference in his approach and release. His ball just doesn't crash the pocket like it used to. Gets a lot more, what some would call weak strikes than he used to, because he is losing power.
