Hi everyone,
Hope you had a good new year! I have been getting back into bowling after a long break. And I'm ready for a new ball. I would say im still new to bowling when it comes to all the technical aspects.
A little background on my style. From the research I have done I definitely throw the ball High Rev, I use no thumb Palm style. Speed of the ball has been around 14mph. I currently have an Ebonite sr300. I was originally looking at the new Roto Grip Soul but after speaking with the guy at the Pro Shop he turned me on to the Storm IQ Tour. He said for a High Rev Bowler that I would be better off with IQ that it will have a smother and predicatable hook. That I should stay away with balls with a big hook due to the fact that my Rev is already high since I throw with no thumb. I Wanted to reach out to the community and see if there are any other recommendations.
Thank you in advance!

hello welcome to the boards.
a good ball that would be good for you would be the frantic or the fringe or manic all good mid performance ball by storm but then you cna look at some track ball if you like track but look at the 5 series track balls i throw the track 716T and i got high revs and i throw at 17-19mph and i can get it to hook very nicely smooth and it hits the pins like a truck, but then another company you can look at is DV8 lots of people on here throw DV8 now they got some great balls the reckless and too reckless are great balls i got the too reckless works great on muti oil condtion.
i onlyu said a couple so then other people can say some balls that they think would do good but remember one look look at different brands and look for the ball that you think would do best for you.

My pro shop has a demo of the IQ Tour Pearl that I threw a few games. If you want to go with Storm, that would be my choice.
Otherwise, DV8 is going to get an overwhelming vote around here. I have a DV8 Hell Raiser Terror and it is awesome. I like it more than my Storm Frantic, and I like my Frantic. Should be fine for your style. The DV8 Marauder seems to be one of the more popular choices around here too if you want to try a hybrid coverstock.

The only way to know what ball to suggest would be to know what the lane conditions you bowl on are, wood or synthetic low med or heavy oil
given you are a rev dominated player strong balls such as the iq and soul may be too strong, i would recommend a weaker ball such as the Hy-road, the Hy-road is a very versatile ball and i'm sure it would do you well

Thank you for some feedback. Didn’t know the DV8 has become the popular choice. I will definitely look more into what they have to offer. Hope my Pro Shop has a demo to try out. After doing some reading looks like the DV8has some crazy hook especially the Hell Raiser. Being a palm bowler and already throwing the ball with some spin/rev is having a ball with such hook a smart choice or should I look for something a little more tame. Like the too Reckless. When I throw i stand far left and try to get the ball on the second arrow to the right.
My ultimate goal is to start bowling in a league and having a good arsenal of 3 balls.

If you are planning on building an arsenal i would recommend the following: get a lower end to medium ball Dv8's Misfit or the Storm Hy-road i mentioned are both nice balls, the second ball you will want is a plastic spare ball, this ball will not hook, and is meant for throw straight at spares third you can look into a stronger (or weaker) ball depending on how the first ball does, if you tend to need to throw across the lane with the first ball then get a weak ball such as urethane, if you tend to throw straight up with it then get a stronger ball.
Remember, you can always throw straighter if the ball isn't strong enough, but if the ball is too strong, there is only so much you can do.

Any thoughts on the DV8 Nightmare? Was watching some videos and ball looks mean. Looks like you cant go wron with any of the DV8 balls.

Here's my take on it. I am also a 2 finger bowler, high revs. For a long time, I always wanted the biggest, baddest ball out there. I had a Mutant Cell Pearl, and a Track 919C. Both strong balls. I was struggling to get my game sorted out throught last season. I was leaving tons of 7 pins, and 10 pins. I had the money for a new ball, and I decided to stop being stubborn, and listened to my ball driller. He had been telling me for a while that I was using too strong of a ball for Typical House oil.
I bought a Track 607A, a mid level, medium oil ball. My game took off after that. I averaged 170 the first half of the season, and over 190 the second half. Too much ball, with high revs leads to soft pocket hits. With most of the ball you mentioned, you will leave a lot of 7 pins, and 10 pins. The Nightmare, IQ pearl, Defiant Soul, any of the Hell Raisers, are all probably too much ball.
I wouldn't suggest nothing higher than a Too Reckless. The Misfit might work well. If you go on Bowlingball.com, and use the perfect scale, you probably would be best off with a ball between 175-190. Roto Grip Rising Star would work, a few of the Storm "Road" balls would work. You probably should also stick with pearl, or high polish balls. Any questions on balls, or if your looking for Palm bowling tips, PM me and I can help you out.

Roccorock beat me to it. Stay away from the Terror, Nightmare or any Hell Raiser. They are awesome but too much ball for your style on any THS that I have seen. Get a Storm Hy-Road first. Best ball versatility wise on the market and has been for years. The DV8 Misfit Pearl would work well from half way through the second game through the third. The final for the arsenal....plastic ball. When you're ready for a fourth ball, get a Storm Natural Pearl. It's urethane and will come in handy on drier lanes or when you start sport patterns and have short oil patterns to play.

I myself am looking to build a new arsenal for my 2 finger delivery, as I am dropping to 14#'s and everything I have is 15. I am probably going Hy-Road or Rising Star . Defiantly picking up a Urethane ball , and probably a Roto Grip Shout in the middle. I'm waiting to see the perfect scale numbers on the new balls, the Disturbed, and Wrecker. Disturbed will probably be too much, but the Wrecker may fit in nicely.

I think every bowler should have a Hy-Road. Great benchmark ball. Urethane allows players with revs (any style) to play drier or shorter patterns with ease.
My next ball will be 14 lbs. If I don't like it then I will just donate it to the youth league kids.

Funny how Rocco recomended the Road series of balls, but he sold his Fire Road.

I am going to 14 because without my thumb, it's easier to hold on to, and to throw. I found myself bowling a tournament yesterday, wishing my 607A was 14#s. My spare ball is 14#s, and I am very accurate with it. It will also save my wrist from the wear and tear of bowling a lot of games without my thumb. You may have talked me into a Hy-Road. I know your opinion on Storm, so if your recommending a Hy-Road, you must really love it. Sinister, I liked the Fire Road, but I have 2 similar balls in the bag already, and that ball was newer, so worth more, and I hated the smell.

Thank you so much for all the input! I'm definitely leaning towards the DV8 line right now. I'm going to start bowling in the DV8 Misfit Social League and they give you a free Misfit so I figured that’s a good place to start. I'm ultimately looking for 2 balls, one that can handle all lane conditions and be smooth through the front and back and be more predictable and a ball that will be smooth in the front and hard in the backend. Would the Misfit and the too reckless be a good combo?
I've only bowled one day with my misfit, and I'm a total noob.. BUT, through my research and asking around (proshop/forums), the Misfit is a really great ball. And it looks like the misfit pearl will be even better.
And the green looks awesome.
I can't find any info on the misfit club at my house, though the website says it's offered there. Did your house have any flyers on it?

Yeah they had some flyers. Glad you like your Misfit. I'm glad I came on this board and asked around I would have never thought to look into the DV8 line.
Their marketing is enthralling.
Here's a video if you haven't seen it:

Haven't seen that! But I agree the way they market their product is amazing. Really appeals to the younger crowd and being 24 I can tell you it’s working! I can’t wait to pick out a nice DV8 arsenal and start taking my bowling game to the next level. Now just to pick a ball!!

I can vouch for the Storm Crossroad. The more i use this ball the more i fall in love. Should be getting my Too Reckless today.

Nice, Im thinkg of the too reckless as well and the Misfit. Let me know what you think of the too reckless after you get to throw it a few times.

A DV8 staffer I know swears by the Too Reckless. In his opinion it's the best ball they make. I've used Derrick's several times and believe it would make a good combo with the Misfit to cover most lane conditions with some adjustments.
It's tough to say for each bowler how many conditions a ball will work on when you don't know their style, what they can vary, etc. Personally, I can use any style and play from board 1 to lofting the gutter. Others can only play one lne. We're all different and have different needs.

I gotta say if your brunswicks are anything like our brunswicks in TX, theyre not very oiled. I bowl league at an AMF, and my strong balls (whoa...) are fine because theres so much oil. But at brunswick where its drier, i find myself having to use an old 13 pound spare ball i have that's urethane.
Definitely talk to your pro shop guy and take his word over any of ours. Chances are he is familiar with the lanes and can make a good recommendation to you.

What are your thoughts on the new Misfit pearl? Watched a couple videos and sounds like the Pearl might be a better pick for a higher rev bowler when the lanes start to dry up over the original Misfit. Is it worth holding off and waiting for this one?
Also thinking I'm I better of going with the Too Reckless as my main ball then the Misfit followed by my spare ball. or is it better to get the reckless and the too reckless followed by a spare ball. Thank you again everyone.

The Pearl isn't out yet, so probably no one here has thrown one, but it does sound nice. It should be a nice compliment to the Misfit. Pearl balls tend to get down the lane a little further, and work better when the oil breaks down.
