Looks like you were having trouble hitting your mark in the beginning. Am I right?
Spare shooting is great. No complaints there.
On a normal day, how often are you striking vs. leaving pins?

Your footwork as a whole seems kind of rushed. You go set nicely, then seem to run through your shot, have you ever tried making your first couple steps a little more timed and deliberate?

i normaly strike 4-6 times game but yeah was having a hard time ;)
Zrock any ideas on how to fix that i try'd to slow it down and it never seems to help i still rush a guy on my league tells me i rush every time i just dont know how to fix it like i try to slow my steps down but soon as my arm starts to swing i go lol

I see two things. The first frame you shot, your slide foot was facing the right wall. That makes your shoulders open too much and you end up facing 10 - 12 lanes to the right. Each time you do that, the only way to follow through is across the front of your body forcing you to pull your arm (and the ball) to the left. Try to keep the slide foot "always " facing the pins. ( and you did on the spare and the first ball second frame)
Next, I'm guessing you're leaving several spare shots because you are "Anticipating Your Shot". This is my term, not yet patented, when you look up from your target a split second before releasing the ball. YOU MUST watch the ball roll over your target on every single shot. You cannot hit what you don't see and if you lift your eyes too soon 99% of the time you'll pull the ball to the left. Why ? Because your hand will "ALWAYS" follow your eyes. Remember the three most important things in bowling...Accuracy, Accuracy, & Accuracy. Try these things next time you practice and let me know if they helped. Your strike percentage will go up.

Heh, this was my problem yesterday. One day I'm shooting 200s, the next I'm shooting 150s. This older gentleman who was hanging out stopped me between frames and mentioned that he noticed that right before I was releasing the ball, my head was coming up and I was taking my eyes off my mark. I thanked him and things improved from there. Sometimes a little reminder is all it takes.

Okay. Just checking. Half the time I practice, I only shoot strike shots. If I leave any pins standing, I just reset it and take another strike shot. Amazingly, my strike percentage has jumped up a noticeable amount.

Greenday...... On Saturday's when I coach the kids I always kid them about needing to go out to my car and get the 2x4. They understand what I'm trying to say to them and they start listening a little more.
Also, I must "ASSUME" that your spare shooting percentage is at least around 98% !! Right ? That's the ONLY reason you should have for NOT shooting spares !! Wait a minute, I'm gonna go get my 2x4 and introduce you to it !! LOL

During league, when I'm not screwing around, I maybe miss one spare a night that isn't a split or a "non-split" that involves the head pin standing (a.k.a. a 1-2-4-10). Spare shooting isn't my problem.

That's great. You do have a high spare percentage. What are you averaging now?

Lately I've been shooting around 190 averages in league.

It's mind over matter. This isn't a drag race. Your first two steps should be slow then the pivot/power step is fast then hard into the slide. You arm swing is too fast because of your fast feet. You're killing your ball reaction and revs due to not being able to accelerate the arm from the ankle through the release. The foot speed is also probably what is causing you to occasionally pivot your foot at the slide.

This. Your foot speed shouldn't determine your arm speed. Just keep your arm swing normal and your feet will match it to your arm.

Ball speed is controlled by the legs. While arm speed should remain constant most people speed up the entire body. Athletes coming from other sports usually don't have as much of an issue with this. Watch a little league pitcher. Most will hurry the delivery and arm speed in an effort to increase ball speed. They don't know or realize that neither is needed to increase the speed of a pitch.

Who's that guy that's always telling you to slow your feet down? He's probably a D-BAG!
Noah, if you want to stick around after league, Andrea and I will bowl with you and I'll try to help you out. (Andrea is a good source of information too as she's been bowling forever too) I'm not going to try to tinker with your game too much during league as you will probably bowl worst before you bowl better but, after seems like the right choice. Bowling's a feel game and new things typically do not feel comfortable, IF IT FEELS THE SAME YOU'RE PROBABLY DOING THE SAME THING. It takes about 3000-4000 Reps to store an action into muscle memory. So, I'm going to give you one thing to work on, and one thing only, and I need you to focus on that one thing for 30 games and no less. The guys you see bowling on Sunday, the guys you see bowling good during league, etc... didn't have an epiphany over night and suddenly start bowling amazing. It to years of work.

This is one of my problems and is a symptom of bowling on too many typical house shots. While I agree with "Tampa" for the most part, I'm not sure that splitting boards is going to help you as much as making sure your timing is good and you clear the ball when you should be (at your shoelaces) on a shot that's already giving you substantial room left and right around your target. Sports Physiology would say that focusing on the same thing throughout the process is going to improve consistency and in the long run that needs to be you're target. I'd be more focused, at this point, on where that target should be opposed to being able to hit the wrong board 100 times in a row.

I found this comment to be the most appropriated and insightful of the bunch. When I'm bowling great my first two steps are VERY SLOW. I averaged 237.3 in the 700 tournament and I had been in a mean slump previously. The week leading up to the tourney the only thing i worked on all week was slowing down my first two steps. Shot out to Andrea for always telling me "You look fast, slow down!"
See you Saturday!
Your favorite D-Bag,
Vince.

Vince....... First off welcome to the boards. If you have been "lurking" around here since 2010, what took you so long ? We need other high average bowlers to chime in with other points of view on these lower average bowler questions. Sometimes what is stated is mis read and a different approach/wording is needed to get the point across.

It didn't look like you were on top of the ball in this video but not really under it either. Maybe with the low angle it just made it appear you weren't on top off the ball. At least Vince was able to see it. In person is always the best.
