At this moment I have $1.75 in my bank account. Maybe I will stop by my pro shop before they close today and see if they have any laying around that they will either give to me or sell to me for a buck or 2.

A little cheaper than what you found. Maybe try a plumber. Get some 4" PCV pipe and cut it a 1/2" thick.

Thanks Bill! your insights are always sought after!

What do YOU use to assist in cleaning your ball? Please don't say a ball spinner :) I am looking for a poor man alternative :)

I don't have a spinner yet either. I do mine by hand in the kitchen sink. The pads, cleaners and polishes are not that expensive if you but a little at a time. I bought the quart sizes, one at a time so it will last longer. The 4 ounce bottles are just annoying.

BTW, I clean my balls in warm water after rubbing Dawn into the covers. Let them soak for about 30 minutes then with slowly running water, I start sanding in the order the manufacturer suggests. I let them dry a full day before polishing. I out the polish on by hand and use a 6" automotive buffer ($10 at Advance Auto Parts) to buff them. I buff them until the polish is basically burnt in.

I think I will let my pro-shop do the sanding bit. I am pretty capable of doing the cleaning and polishing myself.

Been there, done that. That's why I didn't go there. I still remember when in order to rub two pennies together I would have to borrow them.

Even if someone were able to donate a a ball cup, they may not be willing to ship for free. But if you really want to go on the cheap, why not just rest the ball on the thumb hole?

The best deal I could find, free standard shipping. $2.70

Yeah you can stack bowling balls on top of each other very carefully on the thumbholes. I have gotten them to go 4-5 high without falling over. Alley balls work best for this.

I am really trying to figure out what you need a display cup for anyway? If you can't come up with $4 for it, which would be better spent on bowling anyway, what is the point?

I have a ring in my bag that I use. It came from a cheap scarf I bought for my wife at Target. It works perfect to keep a ball in place. A win win for me.

I don't find it very silly. We are trying to help you and to figure out the purpose of needing a ball display cup.

Why would someone need a ball cup (other than to display a ball)?

Some bowlers carry a couple in their bag to use as extra places to set balls at the lanes. Like at a tournament when the ball return is full and they want to have a spare/other ball out.

Having one to set your ball on while you clean it at the table or work on the thumb or finger holes (taping , gluing etc).

if you have several balls at home, they make it easier to shelf store the balls.

Also it's better than setting balls directly on a hard floor so they don't develope a flat spot. ( though you should rotate balls setting on cups, as they can dent the ball during long term storage also.)

I was looking for a display cup to store on my dresser. To use go help in cleaning and polishing too.

Right now I am using a custard dish. :)

Seriously though, I clean my bowling ball with a cleaner every night I bowl without a bowling ball display cup. I first do the non thumb hole side, then do the thumb hole side. I do keep use a display cup, since I do other ball maintenance stuff, like change finger inserts, widen thumb holes, etc., but not needed when cleaning a ball.

Innovative sells plastic cups for $0.90. I'm sure you'll pay more for shipping though.

Not that hard to fabricate cutting a piece of PVC pipe though.

Not if I don't have the tools to do so.

What ever. I am currently using a custard dish. :)

You can always stop by your local hardware store, like Lowes, Homer Depot, Menards, etc. and go to the plumbing section and look for PVC fittings. You may find a coupler that could suit your need.
