You can use it direct or diluted. I use it for cleaning bike parts.

Direct on bowling balls? Is that legal? I know USBC says you can use it but do they mention which way?

It's not specified, so use it however you want to...

I bought a gallon jug at Home Depot and I use it 50/50 with alcohol. So far, it does a great job.

Okay, the simple green ball cleaning mix.

The Original formula is a 50/50 blend of the regular Simple Green Cleaner (not the concentrate) and rubbing alcohol.

Simple Green can be found in the cleaning aisle of most stores (Walmarts, Big Lots, Grocery stores etc.) Not that the concentrate can't be used, but you might have to vary the mix just a little.

As for the alcohol it comes in different percentages such as 70%, 90%, 99%. From my tests any of these will work.

70% stays on the surface longer because it evaporates slower than the others. This is good for helping break down the grime, but the ball will stay wet longer and you might have to wipe more to dry it.

99% evaporates fastest so you have to be quicker about wiping down the ball.

To me 90% had the best balance between the two.

As for legality

Simple Green is legal, Alcohol is legal.

The two mixed together technically are Not Legal. (But it's not Illegal either, it's a unknown. But you lean on the side of caution)

This is because the mix has not been tested by the USBC. Just because the individual parts are legal, doesn't make the combination of them legal.

Should you use it?
If you like how it cleans, go ahead. Nobody is going care, most couldn't even tell what it was in the first place (unless you tell them).

I use the knock-off Simple Green from the dollar store, works just as well....probably made by the same company.

Just spend the extra couple of bucks for a decent ball cleaner.

Storm Reacta Clean 4oz 11.99 = 2.99 per oz

Simple Green 128 oz 11.31 = 0.088 per oz

so it's a little more that a couple bucks extra, and it's on the usbc approved list so there's nothing wrong with using it.

I think the point that needs to be made is pick something on the approved list. Use it after each session you bowl. What you spend on the cleaner is your choice but not spending anything on cleaner is not smart.

Simple Green by itself is fine, is it approved and it is cheap, other cleaners are not cheap. Then again as long as you use a spray bottle and do not pour it onto the ball an ounce of cleaner can go a long way.

I completely agree, if you can afford the good stuff by all means use it, but for those poor students like me, rubbing alcohol and/or Simple green just makes more sense
