Is your average much better in practice than league? How many pins would you say people improve from league to practice when the pressure is off?
I tend to tighten up and struggle with 10 pin spares in league. Also have a hard time stringing together big runs of strikes. Practice is pressure free so of course things are much easier.

My average goes up when I bowl in league. I don't bowl for score when I practice because the lanes are usually drier and thus suck something awful. Practice is time for me to tinker with mechanics.
A strike can happen with a good or lucky ball. Aiming for specific pins is more of a challenge. During practice, I also don't bowl for score. I practice 10 or 7 pin spares. I also try to hit only 1 pin, 2, 3, 4 (hard), 5, etc.

How many games do you practice? I throw 8-15 sometimes so if I all I did was throw at a single pin, I'd go crazy! LOL
But I'd be much better at spares.

Today I was tired and threw four games. Usually I throw about five games or so.
I did really well when I bowled on a sports pattern. I like heavy oil so sports patterns work a lot more to my advantage.

I rarely keep score in practice. I usually work on any areas that are giving me problems at that time.

i bowl better in league. I the pressure really helps me focus. Not to mention in league i bowl rather conservative and in practice i try every think from two handed bowling to left handed bowling to bowling with my pink and ring finger in the holes

I definitely bowl better during league score wise, since practice isn't about shooting high scores (they don't really count for anything anyway, your first 300 chance in competition is waaay different than any you would shoot in practice too). It just sounds like not only should you be practicing your physical form, you should be making a mental pre-shot routine to follow every shot too. I've found that it helps with the nerves of competition as it makes you feel like you've been there, done that, since all you can worry about is execution once you step on the approach.

I am more consistent during league as the lanes during practice are always dry and less consistent. I average 160 in league but practice is all over the place depending on what I am working on.

Because I tend to work on things while practicing, my scores are not terribly high in practice. That is okay though, as I am not looking for scores anyhooo.

I too shouldn't be posting to this thread since I don't keep an average for my practice bowling. Since I usually throw one game of low ball and one of shooting at each key pin in turn, it would be pretty low.

I keep score of all my practices since I'm not in a league yet. I try to focus on staying consistent when the pressure is on. If I bowl more than 3 games...the first 1 or 2 doesn't count as I'm usually practicing 7s or 10s or my technique, then I get serious with my last 3 games.

I definitely plan to work more on my spares next time out. I usually shoot at least one game of just 10 pins. Maybe I'll do MUCH more next time. After that I usually play like a normal game trying to make transitions and work on things a little during the game. Although I keep score, it's done on my phone and I look at things later like spares, etc.

I usually practice 5 games, 1 game before my league. It takes me awhile to warm up. Then 4 games after the league, but we usually play for $$$ so I don't get much practice at all.

My average in pratice is not relevant. I open with release and fouu line drills that result in gutter balls. I roll for specific pin leaves, like 3-9 against a full rack. I bowl 7 and 10-pin spares against a full rack. I finish off with 2 - 3 regular strike balls for integration sake.

During practice I try a few different things but I have been able to average a 167 during practice with a high game of 255. I was on fire that game and everything was working right. My league average is a 165 and high game of 234. So my averages are closer but with the last two weeks being horrible, my league average might have dropped.
