So I have changed my throw to more of a traditional release rather than starting with my hand on the side of the ball but am having a hard time getting rev's on the ball. when i try to flick upwards with my two middle fingers after my thumb is out of the ball I tend to push the ball to the side and miss my line. any advise or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Would it at all be possible to submit a video of your release to help us visualize your release?

Also, how do you have two middle fingers? lol

The old standby is to pretend you are throwing a football underhanded in a spiral. Follow through straight to your target and up, not across your body. Keep practicing and you'll get it.

I dont flick. My hand stays behind the ball most of the swing but rotates slightly before release. Wrist stays firm. Thumb comes out first then fingers create spin just by the ball coming off of them. I dont do any fancy uncocking or cupped actions. My rev rate is around 340 last time it was measured. I never liked the football analogy as that could lead to rotating over the top of the ball and/or creating lift with the fingers. Anything that requires muscles is usually difficult to repeat.

please someone correct me if this is wrong, but instead of flicking up with your fingers you should uncock/uncup your wrist and drive through the ball?
and that flicking up actually kills a little bit of rev potential?

There are many ways to create revs.
If you truly are at 15.5 mph and 340 revs then you are already rev dominate. Are you sure you need/want more revs or is it actually an alteration in axis rotation that you need? Or, is the release issue you're having confusing the situation?

Do you apply any pressure with your index finger?

Damn, I combined posts from two different people, sorry.
Stop flicking. It's one of the worst ways to induce revs.
Keep your index finger pointed towards your target, as the ball passes the slide ankle, rotate your wrist/hand towards the 4:00 position and let the ball roll off the end of your fingers. Keep some pressure on the ball with your index finger. As you release, accelerate the swing to the finish position.

i might be able to post a video this weekend. My throw speed is between 12 and 14mph. i bowled last night and didn't flick my fingers and i have way more control but i have to try to not throw to hard otherwise my ball doesn't hook much. I would really like to throw 15mph and still have good hook.

It is all about leverage. Put your wrist in a position to get your fingers underneath the equator of the ball and you should get more revs as your fingers lift the ball on release. Also try to get your hand on the inside of the ball. Think of doing this by leading with your ring finger. Also the later you release the ball the easier it is to get torque on the release.

The later u release? Can u expand on this? The later u release causes loft which kills revs. maybe Im reading it wrong

The later you turn before the release. Often times people will impart their rotation too early killing most of the reaction. The ball spins but doesn't have any real drive.
You didn't read it wrong, it was how it was worded.

Still working on my video. getting a little better using the advise. thanks guys. I bought a glove with a wrist support and it helps me keep my hand in wrist in good position so every things not moving.
