i finished my ball spinner so now im looking at pads to get and decided to get siaair as reports are that they last much longer than abralon. They also come in more grits that abralon.
the grits are:
240
360
500
600
800
1000
1500
2000
3000
4000
I get 6 so i was thinking 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 and then idk what to get for the last 2. Maybe 240 for deep marks?
Anyone know of sanding a ball with 1500 grit then adding a regular polish is the same as using storm step 2 for a 1500 grit polished finish?
According to the Grit Chart (http://home.earthlink.net/~litefrozen/downloads/bowling_grit_chart.pdf), Storm Step 2 is 320/1500 grit. I'm assuming it's a similar process to 320 grit, then 1500 grit. So if you use a regular sanding pad with 1500 grit and add polish, it will be totally different than Storm Step 2.
As far as what sanding pads you would need, I would look at the sanding process for the bowling balls that you have and get those pads. A 500 grit pad is enough to sand out scratches and marks. If you have deep gouges, scratches, cuts, I use superglue to fill them out, then use a fine file to sand it down so that it's flushed with the ball. Then start sanding away. It's better to use water when you sand the ball, so that you don't wear out the pads quickly. If you're not going to use water, I would wear a mask so that you don't inhale the particles.

thanks for that link. According to that chart for a 1500 storm step 2 like finish id need 320 then 1500 then add a regular polish? Would that be the same as a 1500 grit polish?
Looking at the chart with other liquids, the Step 2 finishes at 1500 grit. So either use 1500 grit pad OR Storm Step 2.

If your wanting a 1500-grit Polished Factory Finish
Here are the steps for use on a spinner:
1. 500-grit Abralon – Sand firmly for 30 seconds on all four sides.
2. 1000-grit Abralon – Sand lightly for 20 seconds on all four sides.
3. 2000-grit Abralon – Sand lightly for 20 seconds on all four sides.
4. 4000-grit Abralon – Sand lightly for 20 seconds on all four sides.
5. Storm Step Two – Polish lightly for 15 seconds on each side.
Storm Step Two is similar to Rough Buff and Track Clean'N Sheen. The 320/1500 basically means It will take a ball sanded at 320 to 1500 grit.
But that doesn't mean it the same as 1500-grit Polished Factory Finish above. (Do to the 320 base grit)
