I spent last week on vacation in the bowling capital on the country, Las Vegas. We bowled at South Point lanes. Out of 48 lanes, only 4 were available for general use. We had to wait 45 minutes, I guess they wanted us to roam the casino and spend money.

Anyway, we finally get a pair of lanes. We see the guy prepping the lanes to our left for leagues, and when they reach our lane, then interrupts our game, oils our lanes in frame number 5. Lanes freshly oiled, and approach cleaned we are cleared to continue bowling.

The odd thing is the adjacent lane was a family with about 4 small kids, all of whom are eating popcorn. popcorn is all over the floor to be tracked up onto the freshly cleaned approach.

I thought it was odd to oil mid game. Am I the only one?

I've bowled plenty of times while they were oiling lanes. I prefer that they oil mine mid-game instead of skipping me. Bowling on fresh oil is my favorite.

Yeah, that is very odd.

Your timing was such that you got there just as they were scheduled to do the lanes. It's not unusual at all to have that happen. Because you weren't bowling in a league or tournament, it's something that didn't matter. And they then had all of the lane oiled "on schedule". No Biggie.

But, if I were bowling league, would it be a stretch to consider it a disadvantage to have "slightly used" fresh oil as opposed to truely "fresh oil" ? Kinda like the difference between "fresh orange" juice and "freshly squeezed". One was squeezed sometime this morning and the other just prior to going into your glass. A big difference for some. Why not wait until we are done and then prep the lanes. There were only a few. Laziness on the part of lane maintenance perhaps?

I thought the practice was odd.
