So i bowled in our local 200 avg. and below Iron Man today. Its 12 games, 1 per set, across the whole house. Went in with a 189 average so only getting 8 pins handicap. Stuck the place up averaging 166 a game lol. Just had a lot of trouble with my release more than anything. And the pace was a little fast. I think the winner was a guy averaging 118 getting 64 handicap shooting 170 every game. . . talk about sandbagging

If a guy with a 118 average bowls an average scratch game of 170 every game, he's definitely sandbagging. Something just isn't right there.

Yeah that is definitely sandbagging!
My 62 year old mother averages around 115 with arthiritis and wouldn't come close to shooting 170 every game even with bumpers.....

Sounds to me like someone wrote the wrong number maybe he was supposed to be a 181 instead of a 118.

Was this a USBC sanctioned event? If so the tournament director has the authority to re-rate a bowlers average on the suspicion of sandbagging. To let someone get away with this two years in a row is beyond belief!

ill never understand why guys do this? I know around this area, there aren't many handicap tourneys.

There are lots of handicap tourneys around here.
A friend attended one in the next county over. He told them he averaged 238 (true) and was told it would be hard for him to advance given the others handicap. He saide no problem and the first set shot 300, 279, 289. He had never stepped foot in there before and now has the house record. He wond the tournament averaging 268 and hasn't been back.

I don't think it was a sanctioned event. And two years in a row is a bit ridiculous. . . .

That sounds awesome!! I'd love to play in a tournament like that!! It would give me an excuse to bowl more than 6 games. I've had to limit myself recently becuase when it comes to bowling...I could bowl all day. I have no self control. Which means the next day...I can't bend my finger, my elbow hurts, and I'm walking with a limp. Last night I bowled 8...and the elbow is kinda sore. I'd have bowled even more, but my instructor has kinda frowned upon it...not to mention in the 10th frame of game 8 I threw it in the gutter to the left on ball 1, then in the gutter to the right on ball 2....and decided, "okay...you're tired...its time to quit."

Still bowled a 153 even without any pins in the 10th...so I wasn't too pissed. :p

Years go there usrd to be a 20 game tournament onthe far north side. Bowl 10 games, break for lunch and then boel 10 more. I used to make most my money the second 10 because i was as strong in game 20 as i was in game 1. Bowling 2-300 games a week helped a lot
