just wondering how many good LEAGUE bowlers, take the summer off! I actually enjoy bowling more in the summer, a lot easier in regards to old war injuries!!
My body loves Warm Weather, thus bowling is usually much better...

I am planning on only 3 leagues this summer! One will probably be the seniors league. Nice thing about those leagues, its only $7.55 per person, and .45 cents if you don't make it to bowl.

I can actually say that half of the league bowlers at my house take the summer off. The wait for the big leagues in the fall/spring. I enjoy bowling too much. I'm going to get back in the game and start off leagues this summer and continue year round...or until I can't afford it. Haha.

The way I see it is if I take the summer off then next fall
it would be like me starting all over from scratch again.

I will bowl year round until one of two things happen and
that is either my old worn-out body just won't let me do it
any longer or I get to where I just can not afford to do it
anymore.

I'm like MICHAEL said I'd rather bowl in the summer because
the warm weather makes those knee and back pains a lot less
painful in the summer time.

I've been a mod for awhile, I took some time off as life just got way too busy for me. I felt bad because I didn't tell the guys I'd be disappearing for awhile. But then again, when things happened, they came out of nowhere and from all directions so I had no choice.

I feel the same way. I'm twisted between bowling on the big "Merchants" Tuesday night league, or the smaller "Sport Shot Singles" Thursday night league...

we are changing to a matchpoint league for the summer it will give us 13 weeks to find out about the league and decide if we
like it or not. i feel summer is a good time to shift around on different leagues to find out how they work before you make a
long term commitment to bowl for the winter.

Until last year I never bowled during the summer, though last year was only for practice -- no leagues. This year I decided that if I'm going to practice bowl in the summer I might as well do one league too.

I enjoy bowling in the summer more, but my time is more limited and my other hobbies like golf and mountain biking demand that I bowl less.

I usually only bowl one league during the summer, and usually try to get the late mixed league on the weekend (9:00pm) so that I don't miss much of the day doing things I want to outdoors.

Our leagues are very small during the summer, compared to fall and winter.

I am bowling the Tuesday Night Have-A-Ball League I am bowling for my mom a new ball she has a ball she likes but wrong color and its too heavy plus this car wreck we had has left us both injured I have to go to a neurologist for my head cause the wreck caused some kind of head injury with me I have had severe migraine headache's every day since the wreck and only thing that helps is strong pain medication like norco (hydrocodone) and I was already on it anyway for my buldging disc and I have lost all my teeth cause of the complications my surgerys caused I had the gastric bypass and revision of the gastric bypass and hernia surgery and gaul bladder removed and and another hernia repair and something else and reversal of gastric bypass when it wasn't suppose to be reversable anyway the surgery caused me to throw up everything I eat I still don't have that fixed and mom she doing rehab from the wreck with her shoulder and wrist she just now learning to drive again sharp turns are hard for her I just hope she be able to bowl again cause she has very limited movements with her left hand she is right handed but you use your left hand to support the ball but hopefully by next fall she be able to bowl. I only bowl one league in the summer one in the fall I want to bowl more but hopefully I get to bowl on special olympics I am trying for it if meet requirements and I want to bowl more its only if can afford it and like I have said before I have also got to rely on mom or dad to drive me there and moms just starting to drive now again now.

im 19 but i think my shoulder could be my rotator cuff (if thats what you call it) it could be damaged abit because i have played baseball since i was 4 year old all the way up to 16 and i had the fastest throw in the league every year and this was fastball and abit of hardball when i was 14-16 i could throw a fastball doing a windmill pitch at 67-71 mph (witch is fast for fastball) and in hardball i could throw the ball at 81-84 mph but could never do much of a curve ball but had a wicked screwball.

this could be why my should is messed

I'm doing a cash doubles league with my coach. $20 a night. Three games. It's being run at four different houses (But you just pick one house and bowl there). The top half of the league at each house goes to a bowl off at a fifth house. Winner gets $5,000.

Bowl all year long....use the summer to work on different issues, techniques, or like Judy says; try out new leagues and teams without a long commitment. Yes, it is warmer, or should I say HOTTER in the summer, but we just use our individual fans alot more than winter - and wear shorts!

Hopefully, after I start with my new coach, I can use the summer competition to utilize what I learn and be ready for the real deal come fall/winter.

Sara, I wouldn't worry much about your Mom's left arm. While I understand it is used a lot while bowling, it is something you can learn to overcome. If she wants to bowl, she will find a way to compensate. On one of my leagues, there is a gentleman that is missing the left arm just below the shoulder, and another that has a deformity of the hand that makes supporting the ball impossible (he avgs over 200). In my other league, one of our guys bowls with one leg...wheels himself up to foul line and stands next to wheelchair and throws the ball. It's a sport that allows you to compensate for a lot of misgivings - unlike other sports. It's really a mindset. Think positive!

I will thanks for the info classygranny like your dog icon like I said earlier I really miss mine my dog that is. Oh I have a friend who bowls with the use of one arm her right side is completly paralyzed so your right I should be thinking more possittive and more upbeat its just I have a poor self esteem and stuff I am manic depressive and everything in the mental health book doctors say its hard to dagnose me cause I show borderline sysmptoms of everything .

Is it a common thing for people to take breaks in the summer? Our league just re-started last week and we lost about half of our people :(

In my experience, people who bowl more for the social aspect have had enough after 30 weeks and look forward to taking the summer off. Combined with families with kids taking vacations in the summer not many people want to commit to summer leagues.

What kind of racing? We have an asphalt oval near here and of course Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway is nearby also which is dirt. The nearest dragstrip is 40 miles south.
