Hi, everyone! My name is Mike and I live in Chicago!

I started bowling again last year after a very long hiatus.

I bowled in college at The University of Illinois at Chicago from 1987-1989 and I have decided to return to bowling as I near my retirement from my working life.

I am glad to be here and I look forward to talking to many of you and learning what I have missed over the years.

I need to learn about cores and coverstocks. I started working with a coach this past year. We completely rebuilt my release. Now it's smooth and silky and I have to say that I am getting behind the ball much better than I ever have.

Now, I am seeing the shapes of the balls that I throw. That different balls and drillings and setups make them vary in their reactions to the oil. I am eager to learn more about how to predict ball reaction without dumping a million dollars into equipment and learning the hard way.

Oh, I also coach kids leagues on Saturday mornings as a way off giving back. I am only a level 1 coach, but I have lots of time to grow and the kids always seem to have fun.

Welcome to the boards. Chicago is too expensive for bowling. You ought to move a little south.

Welcome to the forum!
Today was our last day for youth leagues and I'm a little sad about it. I thoroughly enjoy working with a majority of the kids (60 kids and I'm the only coach/volunteer). I was stoked today when my prize pupil rolled a 796 series. There's nothing more excited than a 12 year old girl crushing teenage boys on the lanes.

Welcome Mike and kudos for coming back and starting to coach the kids. Keep this sport alive!

Bill, what a great compliment to your coaching skills - and I truly believe your people skills. I bet this was the girl you once told you believed in her, but she needed to believe in herself. 796 - what a great accomplishment (for any age!)

for what it's worth, I thought that I'd share this story:

Today was my daughter Jenni's 19th birthday. She asked me to go bowling with her this morning. I think that I got the present!
