I felt the same way although I didn't try to make any extra post to reach the next level. I hate being labeled!

it's all in fun J. just kick back and enjoy being a special member of the boards. Does that mean I can't call you my pin pal?

Pin pal is fine. It is part of a friendly greeting, and its true. I consider myself a friend to to anyone else who enjoys bowling. On the other hand, I have never deliberately thrown a bad game in competition to gain a higher handicap, so being labeled a Sandbagger was a bit irritating.

ok thanks! I had to lol when I read this post because that is exactly why I said I needed to hurry up and post more
to close out that label of sandbagger...I have never deliberately thrown a bad game. I work to hard to try and get a good one.

What type of mentality does it take to sandbag? I'm only curious because I would never, ever be able to NOT try and do my best on every shot. I'm curious if anyone here has sandbagged, and what the reasoning was? Maybe you know someone and why they do? Can you enlighten me? Doesn't that take the "sport" out of bowling?

Yes I've known quite a few people who liked to sandbag during leagues.
The reason is they want to keep their average(s) down so they stand a
better chance in tournaments else where by having higher handicaps.
There is one thing I can proudly say about myself and that is I've never
intentionally sandbagged in my bowling life even though on some really
bad nights I've been accused of it.
I always go after every pin that I can get even though a person will miss
an easy single pin spare every once in a while. Then you get accused of
trying to miss just to sandbag for more handicap.
That is why I try to keep a 0 handicap and not ever have more than 6 pins
of handicap because I'd rather bowl scratch anytime. That way if you win
then you know you earned that win and if you loose then so be it.

Everyone has been called one at some point.
Like when your just learning and toward the end of the league you are consistently 20+ over your average.
I've got my summer leauge starting tonight, 9 games to establish average. You enter at previous years avg.
I've been bowling good with a certain ball playing a certain line the past couple months but maybe i feel like trying a inside line with a different ball for the first 3 weeks.
