The last league I was in California was about 8+ years ago. It was a mens league and it was frowned upon to have food or drink close to the lanes. Now that I live in Tennessee this new league that I'm in people eat their dinners right on the score table and all sorts of stuff.

I asked my teammate if they do this on the Wednesday Superstar League(top bowlers) and he says yeah. Kinda surprised me.

Is this just a change in bowling overall, my local alley or a Tennessee thing?

5-man men's league at one house I bowl has seating setup so that no one ever does this.

The other league I bowl in, the house has those damn Brunswick tables with the chairs that go in/out at an odd angle right next to the lanes and People eat drink there. It's not a huge deal of me but if/when someone spills a drink I probably throw a small hissy fit...

Depends on setup of the center. One center we bowl at has tables behind scoring area where we can eat/drink etc. not much chance of food or drink making its way to approaches. Other we have tables just feet from scoring and approaches and sometimes people will spill drinks etc.

As far as I know all lanes have a rule that there is not to be any food or drinks in the bowlers circle (the settee area).

If it's happening there. That's just the house being lazy not enforcing the rules and the other bowlers not complaining about people doing it.

Brunswick Lanes around here don't have that rule. One league I use to bowl on passed the rule that no drinks allowed on the table/settee area. The other league tried to pass the rule, but it didn't pass. Too bad, too because the evening leagues seem to have more beer and soda down there than the morning leagues.

No one is ever "standing" with a drink in there hand while in the pit at my center. If that makes sense. There's cup holders in the pit behind our chairs, but I don't see anyone walking around in the pit with there drinks or food in hand.

When we are sitting in the pit, we'll take a sip of our drink, place it back in the cup holder, and continue to cheer our teammates on.

Probably getting to specific about this, the idea is no food or drinks directly in the pit!!!

I guess you could use food and drink to your advantage by placing cheese dip and greasy food out to get in the heads of bowlers who get distracted easy.

Last week had one guy spill drink on score table. Too the right of me the whole team was eating BBQ Wings or something with multiple dips. It's a non competitive fun league I get that but seems a little over the top with the food.

My house is an older house where the counter sits atop the lanes and you step down to the lanes. The counter is far away enough from the actual playing area to be relatively safe to eat and drink so we always put our drinks up there. My drink of choice is water ; a bottle I am always gurgling from. But last week, that setup did not stop some drunk cougar from slapping her mixed drink down on the stairs and spilling it all over the steps. We had to call for cleanup and put a tape across that set of steps to keep people from walking up or down. Those drunk cougars -- gotta luv em! LOL.

This is how our set up is it's back behind and above about two steps for the most part it keeps good and drink away from the lanes if you to the risk to walk around you might end up on your face ha ha

only drink allowed on my teams is beer or liquor. other than that just don't bother to show up - just stay home.

Full on service from the restaurant and bar directly to your table on the lanes....It is a crazy mess and I usually wipe my slide shoe off every time I get up to shoot for a 'just in case'.

Here is a good idea you could put your shoe protector on your slide shoe soon as your turn is over until your turn is up again.

Do they have a "bong" frame instead of a beer frame in Colorado. :)

Here they have this Bowling ball beer dispenser you can get it filled with anything I think but most people get it filled with beer.
