Earlier in the season (Thursday fun league), I saw an old timer fall as his knee gave out. It wasn't too big of a deal really.
But TONIGHT...Thursday Fun League with Bunny...this rather overweight guy...probably upper 40s, maybe low 50s...he took a few steps over the foul line after his release...and slipped backwards...hit his head SO hard on the lane...it sounded like a ball being thrown...he was completely knocked out cold. The guy we were bowling against threw his ball in the gutter because he saw the guy fall out of the corner of his eye. Bunny and I went over to him...he was OUT...I mean OUT. :(
I've never really seen anyone hurt bowling before. I know old timers will have aches and pains...heck, if I bowl a lot...I end up walking with a slight limp because my left knee gets sore...but I've never seen an actual injury...injury.
That dude entered a world of pain...a world of pain.

That was crazy. It took at least three to five minutes to get him alert and able to speak.
Then, that lady came up while we were waiting for paramedics and started saying that he was answering the neuro assessment questions we were asking him incorrectly. Turns out she had mistaken him for someone else.
What the heck?
The paramedics came and figured out she didn't know the guy so they asked her if she needed help. No joke!

Aside from people getting their fingers pinched between ball when picking their ball up from the ball return and not paying attention to the other balls coming back, I only recall one person suffer a muscle pull while bowling.
I did have a situation where I went to congratulate one of the bowlers on the other team after they had beaten my team for the first time since they had joined the league. As he reached out to shake my hand, his eyes rolled up and he fell over backwards. Given that he was a pretty goofy guy who never seemed to take any thing too seriously we thought he was just fooling around pretending to be in shock from the upset win. Turned out that is was really a grand mal seizure.

Worst I have seen is a knee giving out on a lady several years ago. Hard to watch someone in so much pain. :( Luckily we have a firefighter/paramedic in our league and he was able to stabilize her until paramedics arrived with an ambulance. She was out of bowling for well over a year.

Sounds like you need a concussion rule in your league like the NFL has

Mechanic got his head caught in the pin rack.
Did someone have to hit the reset button to get his head unstuck?

What??
Ouch!!
A pin got stuck in it, he switched it off. But when he pulled the pin out, it took the pressure off the rack and it closed up some. Grabbing his head, he was okay when they got him out just a small cut.

Does having a heart attack and dying count as an injury?

This was back in the 80's.
He was in his 70's, bowling in a scratch league, had just won the 1st game side pot with a 230+ game.
So he went out on top.

Not an injury, but my friends them got stuck and he slipped on the lane and slid a few inches. During a school match! It was hilarious!

I saw a guy take a dive last night while I was bowling 3 lanes over.
I felt bad for him because it's a guy I bowled against before and he's a really great guy...always nice and pleasant. He wasn't hurt...but I think he was embarrassed. It didn't help that this really hot chick was on the opposing team...so it probably hurt is pride twice as much to do that in front of her.

I stuck on my slide on Wednesday and went down hard on my knee. Didn't actually hurt but all I could think about was sticking the rest of my night, didn't make for great bowling...

I bowled in the regional AMF tournament last year, its named after Pete Weber as I remember it.. Anyway, a guy that was overweight, in his I would say 30s/40 picked up his ball from the ball return and took a step forward and passed out! He died right there on the spot! VERY SAD!!!
Way to young,,,
its not how old you are, but in many cases the way you take care of your health! Hey I am 65, but feel GREAT,,, working out doing endurance biking at the gym, weight training, and most importantly eating healthy!! Old is relative to how you take care of your self. My Dad is 85, and works out, plays golf, carries his golf clubs on his shoulder, and plays 4 to 5 times a week weather permitting, even in the winter. He also works out at a gym close to his house. Healthier the some 30 year old I know!! LOL
my condolences to his family, I did not know the guy... he died playing a sport he loved..... I know my dad said he hopes when its time he goes on the golf course... Iceman

The thing is that for the most part, dieing from a heart attack on the lanes is not a bowling injury. The injury to the heart was sustained through years of poor diet and or lack of regular exercise, not from bowling.
