Monday Nite Mixed 10-07-2013

game 1 = 224 - started with 5 bagger then had to wait for a late bowler to catch up 5 frames. Sorta got me out of my groove for a bit.

game 2 = 234 - Again slamming pocket but leaving some 10's did manage to pick them up.

game 3 = 182 - Could not carry anything missed 2 10's. also missed a solid 8 pin because I was still thinking about the solid 8 pin on my spare shot.

series = 640


Not too bad and am really starting to throw the ball more consistent.

The old man showed up today but had dismal spare shooting

He shot 245, (I think there was an open in there), 267, (had a 9 -) and the last game started with the front 10, then left the 2-5, then chopped the 2 off the 5 for a score of 287, and a series of 799.

game 2 = 249 - moved 1 board left but had to keep my ball speed up.

game 3 = 214 - moved left 2 boards again by end of game. crankers on pair burned up the lanes pretty quick.

** I love this league and the point system. Getting a point for beating your opposite bowler keeps your head in the game.

game 1 = 211 - more oil than usual so I was searching but kept clean and picked up my spares.

game 2 = 255 - Moved left and opened up the lanes

game 3 = 246 - carry was great. did miss a 10 pin.

series = 712

League Average = 212

** Started off the night pulling the ball left a bunch for some reason in first game so to correct this I started swinging it more which got my arm motion back and that seemed to work. Second 700 series in a row and am throwing the ball well. All with the Hyper Cell.

** We bowled on the last pair of the house which most people don't like. We took 16 of 24 points and kept our 4th spot in the standings heading into the last week with position round.

** Last week of bowling which was position round. We were in 4th and half point out of 3rd. Bowled scratch against 3rd place team which seems rare. It was a tough series and they ended up getting 13 points to our 11. We ended up keeping our 4th place finish out of 24 teams. Team got over $800 for 4th place for second half of season.

game 3 = 204 - being dumb I get more cookies!!!

**Last week of Monday nite league. This league was hard for me because it's a "fun" league with older bowlers and low averages. I tend to lose my concentration at times. I will need to find some way to keep my head in the game next year. All in all not bad 211 average to start my bowling up again. Wednesday league I ended up with a 216 but better competition.

* First time bowling on a sport pattern and it was mentally draining. After first game I started getting a lot of washouts. I'm practicing shooting spares more direct and of course you almost have to on these patterns. Guy on my team shoots 245 2nd game then 125 3rd game. So yeah pretty unforgiving.

I tried to dethrone him, but came up a bit short with 707.

I had the best success with my Roto Grip Wrecker which is drilled pin up. I was playing between 5-10 board and lofting it out more than usual to stop it from sliding so much. The lanes were very oily with not much back end so you needed to watch ball speed as well. My area of Tennessee also was extremely humid last night which didn't help the lane conditions.

Are the bowling balls you have listed all you have? If so, you might want to consider putting a little surface on the wrecker to smooth out the reaction on both the front and back for the chameleon. Just saying.

Your probably right I just have never been one to mess with my bowling ball surface or stuff like that. I pretty much just get it out of the box and throw. I averaged 216 in the fall on a THS but have learned you need to know more about equipment and drilling patterns etc... to really attack sport shots.

I have been the same over the years also just leaving a ball at box finish. I have tried experimenting a little over the past couple of years with abralon pads. It really does open your eyes to some different options though.

It's interesting to see someone doing well with that ball. I don't think I've ever seen anyone throw that one well. Most of the people I see use it are rev challenged and they think the ball will fix it which doesn't really work. Congrats again.

I also love my Hypercell. Have my highest series with that ball. Just a nice smooth rolling ball that gets down lane easily.

Something that has worked for me recently, Rob Mautner posted in another thread about targeting at the pin rather than a board on the lane. I tried it and have gone 18 of 19 on the 10 pin since changing over to target the pin. 100% on all other single pins. It really does work.

Yeah, I read that and have not tried it yet. I think I will give it a shot in my monday league warmups. It feels weird though looking that far for target. So you just stare at the pin the whole approach etc..

In my typical approach, I watch my target until about half way through and then let my body take over. Works great.

Last week I had a 6-7-10 split in the 4th and a missed 10-pin in the 7th...scored a 177. Only difference between my game and your's was I doubled in the 10th.

** I bowled against the guy with the league high average(234) and managed to take 1 point. He kills me in 2nd game with a 280 game. 3rd game he didn't carry 7pin all game(lefty) and game me a chance but I blew it in 8th with a pocket 7-10. spare 9th and then spare/strike in tenth. He of course punched out in 10th to beat me with a 215.

Next thing you know, he shoots yet another 270+ game.

After catching a boat load of carry gifts, he'll leave a weak 10 pin, and swear he got robbed.

game 3 = 246 - had first 5 strikes so I did have a chance for the 800. ;(

I wouldn't go that far with my carry. Every shot slams the pocket but had stuff like a 4 pin falling forward. messenger taking out the 7 and 10, and your usual wobble 10's falling. Just one of those nights when I was the only one on the pair with great carry.

I don't know if it's just that the ball was brand new out of the box but this thing hit very hard. It gave a very loud sound when it popped the pocket. the sound hitting the pins was different than my hyper cell or wrecker.

Anyway, I think I might have to find a spot for this ball for leagues.

Monday Nite Mixed 03-09-15

game 1 = 300 - Most of the strikes were light hits nothing flush. Probably why I didn't leave any 10 pins

game 2 = 268 - First 5 then a 7 pin

game 3 = 208 - clean game but lost my carry, 7 pin, 3 10 pins. Couldn't adjust enough to string the strikes. big bummer!!:mad:

series = 776

League Average = 223 after 30 games

** Figured I would post this one! last game sucked. I was still hitting pocket but started to leave corner pins. Just didn't adjust enough to carry. Clean 30 frames and this is my 2nd sanctioned 300**

Yeah. When I rolled a 268 to start at a tournament a couple years ago, then followed that up with a 300. I think I got into my own head and started off rolling the ball too fast, couldn't recover in enough time and ended with 772. Same situation as you. Killed me that I was +68 after 2 games, and couldn't get it.

Will get you an award, just not a free one, unless your local association does something separate from them(have heard of some that do). You can still buy the ring though. KeepsakeBowling is the place that makes the rings. Once it shows up on USBC website under your achievements, you can call them and buy ring.

My first one was with ABC and I ended getting the watch because the quality of the ring was so bad. I doubt I would pay for anything else. Not like i'm going to go in bars and show off my bowling ring! :)

Yeah, they aren't the nicest things unless you upgrade them to gold. Basically just like a class ring.

game 3 = 256 - Settled down and had first 6 then a light hit 7pin.

** Maybe my Melee Cross will get some love now. Guys on my wednesday league make fun of it. call it the Rhino. :)**
