In response to Michael's request here is a thread for who bowls in a sport league to put up their numbers. Not that any one is going to check, but let's keep this to people who actually belong to a sport league, not people who just try it once in a while when league is over or if they get to use a lane that was oiled for sport and wasn't needed.

I bowl in the DV8 Challenge league at Nutmeg Bowl, Fairfield, CT
These scores can be verified by going to leaguesecretary.com and looking up league i.d. # 39320
The format for this league is: Scratch singles, with 4 bowlers per lane, two sets of two games with bowlers moving to a different pair after the first set. High score for each game on the pair earns 6 points, 2nd high - 4, 3rd high - 2. Same point for set total wood. 4 point bonus for a clean game, with an additional 4 points for a clean set.

9/9/13 171, 174, 192, 167 Kegel Turnpike
9/16/13 133, 142, 189, 204

There aren't any sport leagues within a reasonable distance during the fall. There are 2 I bowl in the summer and I average within 5 pins of my THS average. The only sport shots available during the regular season are king of the hills. Although I will be bowling a 9 pin no tap tournament next Friday on a 45 foor sport compliant pattern

I guess we should include tournament scores although the No-Tap will need a big disclaimer. Otherwise this will be a pretty quiet thread.

What's considered sport? Anything that isn't house?

USBC, Kegel, the animal patterns??

Just wondering

What's considered sport? Anything that isn't house?

USBC, Kegel, the animal patterns??

Just wondering

Sport patterns have a oil ratio of 3:1 or less

read about sport bowling here:
http://www.bowl.com/sportbowling/

For a sanctioned sport league. (a lot of houses don't sanction as sport leagues, because of all the trouble they have to go to for it. A lot of unsanctioned sport leagues are referred to as renegade leagues, because it's a way to basically legally sandbag.)

1. What are the lane pattern requirements for Sport Bowling leagues/tournaments?
Due to the multitude of lane machines, lane oils, and lane surfaces, specific criteria was developed for Sport Bowling leagues and tournaments to follow to ensure that the pattern they develop is within the specifications listed below.

A. The Sport Bowling pattern oil ratio requirement shall be a maximum of 3:1 regardless of the type of lane surface or the age of the lane surface.

B. Prior to Sport Bowling league/tournament competition (including Team USA Experience), the following must be done (See USBC Sport Bowling Manual, Chapter 2):

Each lane shall be stripped prior to oiling of the Sport condition.
Tapes will be taken at 22 feet and two feet before the end of the pattern.
The ratio of oil shall be no more than 3:1
The ratio shall be defined as the average amount of oil (in units) between boards Left 18 to Right 18 divided by the average amount of oil (in units) between boards R3-R7 & L3-L7, respectively.
The amount of oil measured on the outside boards (average of R/L3-7) at 22 feet must be greater than 10 units, and the amount of oil measured on the center boards (average of L18 to R18) must not exceed 80 units of oil.
The maximum amount of oil from boards R8 to R17 and L8 to L17 shall not be greater than 130 percent of the average of boards L18 to R18.
The minimum amount of oil from boards R8 to R17 shall not be less than 70 percent of the average of boards R3 to R7.
The minimum amount of oil from boards L8 to L17 shall not be less than 70 percent of the average of boards L3 to L7.
There is no pattern length minimum or maximum.
There is no lengthwise ratio requirement.
All other USBC requirements are still in effect (i.e. three-unit minimum)

Oddly enough that pair of 170s was good enough to sweep the first set. Would have needed a 238 in the last game to sweep the second and 210 to take total.

Our youth league competes on sport patterns for the most part. They generally get whatever pattern the Monday night sport league is going to bowl on. Today a 16 year old shot a 242 the third game on Kegel Boardwalk.

There are no fall sport leagues around here. I bowled in the summer on the four old animal patterns and the U.S. Open pattern and averaged around 170 or so. I couldn't list the scores though. My high was, I think, 236 (US Open) and the low was around 120 (Shark).

New season and some changes to the league format.
Due to Bowlmor's continuing war on league bowlers, our local independent house now has 3 leagues of 5 person teams using 48 lanes. The sport league has been restricted to a mere 8 lanes, and moved from four bowlers per pair to a maximum of 6. In the interest of finishing in a reasonable amount of time we eliminated moving between sets and stay on the same lanes all night.

I can't answer for other centers. I believe the only requirements for sport leagues are that the Bowling Center and the league be sport certified and that all the bowlers in the league upgrade their USBC memberships to Sport. Some part of this requires that at least one lane is taped each week to prove that the oil pattern is sport compliant.

As far as I know, they could run the same pattern every week or they could run a different pattern each week. Since either of these extremes would lead to dissatisfied bowlers, the league I bowl in will generally use the same pattern for 3 to 4 weeks and then change. The only exception is when a pattern is only used one week and that would be for an end of season roll-off. By the way, we had one season where one pattern was used on the odd lanes and a different pattern was used on the even lanes.

Today was "Beat Your Coach" day. Each coach bowled as a pacer on a pair of lanes with the kids. Coaches switched pairs after each game so the all the kids would get to bowl at least one game against a coach.

Why is this post here? Our youth bowlers compete on sport patterns. Today's was London, a 44' pattern with relatively heavy oil.

My scores: 177, 167. So with handicap, most of the kids I bowled against beat my scratch scores.

Find Iceman a Sports league! Sure the bowling at Plattsburg on wood is very challenging, the way they change it every week, but its not a sports league. It mainly different combinations of the THS! Thursday had a 206, 207 and a @#$#!! for a 590! (don the math lol) It was a 40 foot THS.

Iceman having a great thought! ( I wonder if their machine can put down a sports pattern without much preparation )?

If so I could request Lee or Chris to lay one down on a Saturday night when I go practice! I will check into that possibility!!

ICEMAN rolls a 279 on U.S. OPEN pattern on wood! (((( YES I CAN SEE it in my minds eye ))))) or is it just my imagination!! LOL

If that Phoenix DBA machine is a fluid metered type machine it should be able to put out a sport condition, if however it's wick based, it would be a lot more difficult, if at all possible.

The thing about a true sport pattern, is you put the oil on the lane, then take a sample of the oil with a special reader, and confirm you actually got the oil pattern you expected. I seriously doubt Plattsburgh has the equipment to read the oil pattern.

As for finding a Sport League for you, get off your frozen butt and find one yourself.

I will look into that! They are so accommodating, and willing to pull the oil machine out and put down a pattern, I never thought to ask if they had the capacity to do sports patterns,,,, Aslan keeps me distracted with his quest to bowl a 220 average.... I need to Focus on my own life!! Good God he is wearing Ice out!!

I have been looking, and the reply is always, NOT IN THE FALL!

I will get started looking for a summer sports league MIKE, after my butt thaws!!! Not everyone lives in Ca!!!

I did for 6 years, and two earth quakes were enough for ICE!!

I lived in Florida for 2 years. It only took one hurricane (Andrew) to chase my quake loving butt back home... after another 2 year layover in Vegas.

After an earthquake, you look at the rubble and ask, is that my house?

After a tornado (or hurricane) you look at the empty lot and ask, where is my house?

Beat your Coach Day

The youth league that I help coach had its "Beat Your Coach" day today. They were bowling on the 2003 ABC Nationals pattern. Each coach moved to a different pair after each game, so every child would have a chance to bowl head to head with a coach.

My scores were 149, 129, 154; all bowled left-handed to to a sore right wrist.

DV8 PBA Challenge league starts Monday. I will be bowling alternate weeks because of another commitment. A much younger friend will be bowling the weeks I'm not there. The wrist is almost back to normal, no pain but slightly less flexibility, no problems bowling four games at a time in my summer league.

p.s. This thread is open to any one bowling on sport or challenge conditions.

I'd blame the low scores on the new ball I was using, but the real problem was that I started thinking about technique instead of just accepting what I was doing and adjusting to it.

I'm supposed to be splitting the season with another bowler by bowling alternate weeks. I think that skipping a week hurt me as far as lining up on this pattern. What hurt even more was atrocious spare shooting. I think I only made three spares in the first two games. Worst of all was that my teammate didn't show last week.

On the bright side the scores went up each game, which set the pattern for the week. Wednesday, I got in a couple practice games, including one of Low Ball where I made 9 out of 10 ten pins right-handed and only missed 2 seven pins left-handed

Found out that the young bowler who said he would split the season with me is overwhelmed by a combination of work and going back to school, so I'm back to lining up a sub once a month.

Fourth game should have been my best game instead of my lowest. Was working on a strike going into the sixth threw it a bit wide for a five count, and fouled on the spare attempt. Next frame had a pocket 7-10. Ironically, this was the only game I won.

I actually did better on the Shark than on the Viper (to my surprise). Like most PBA sport patterns...a tough out of bounds on the right and little room for error...but a lot of hold in the middle to guide the ball into the pocket.

A fun morning for almost everyone involved. I decided to bowl lefty at thestart of the first game. I haven't bowled from that side on sport patterns this season, but it felt like the ball was coming off my hand better that way.
We coaches moved to a different pair after each game. A few fathers were drafted to bowl so therewould be an adult on each pair of lanes. I think all of them lost at least once to their own child,
Even on the first game only one kid beat me scratch.

Didn't get a chance to post my scores from Sunday. I bowl on a modified sport shot. Went 205, 151, 241 for 597. The first game I struggled a little to stay consistent but was able to grind out with easy spares and stringing a few strikes. The second game the lanes broke down like never before and I struggled to find a line after the 5th frame and had 4 splits. The 3rd game I watched a guy on the other team and followed suit moving to 22 and throwing anywhere inside of 10 to crush the pocket with my cyclone gambreaker. I used the haywire for games 1&2.

Fees vary most I have seen have been within a dollar or too of the regular leagues one I seen was actually cheaper. I'm not sure how far away for you but I'm sure there are multiple sport leagues in philly.

$36 a week but we have a good prize fund and there's a-lot of money to be made every week.

The league I bowl in is $25 per week, 4 games. We may drop to 3 games next year to get done faster with the added benefit of more prize money.

No problem getting a team together as it's a singles league. Our big problem is competing for lanes with three other leagues due to Bowlmor acquiring Rip Van Winkle lanes in Norwalk. Since we don't want more than 6 people to a pair, (we started with the PBA format of 4 to a pair though without the PBA lane courtesey) the center has cut us back to only 8 lanes.

Sunday league scores 163 170 208 for 541. Had an issue with my timing so I was very inconsistent throughout the night. The first game i had 5 splits because i was throwing it so bad. The second game i started correcting the issue briefly, Threw a few bad shots and got tapped twice. The third game i gave up on my own equipment and picked up my dad's ball and had a decent look with minor timing issues coming into play again.

Had the first 6 the first game but you wouldn't know it. Changed the line that I normally play and went further outside, practically straight down 5. Made a ball change in the middle of the second game to grind out that 209 and 203. Can't wait till Sunday. I just got a danger zone punched up and I'm hoping to do some damage.

I've gotten out of the habit of posting my sport league scores. Last winter was disappointing. I bowled the summer session, averaging 164, about 10 pins under what I normally do on sport conditions. The high game of the summer was a 232 to a regional PBA bowler, Tim Gillick. I still managed to end the summer in the top half of the league.

This fall the league lost another pair of lanes. Since I have a conflicting commitment one Monday each week I have dropped out of this league. I did have a chance to bowl as a sub in it a few weeks ago. Scores were 151, 158, 169, 197.

Took three frames just to get loose, fourth frame I finally got the ball to stay right of board 20. unfortunately it hit the pins at 18 1/2 and left the 4-9. Had a hard time putting strikes together, Right lanes seemed to break much harder or earlier than the left. Same line with more speed seemed to work better than moving left.

Today was "Try to Beat Your Coach Day" for our youth league. Depending on your attitude this either a no win or a no lose situation. You can either take the view that if a kid beats you you didn't bowl well / if you beat all the kids, you haven't coached well, or you can can say I must be one heck of a good coach if kids beat you.

The youth league bowls on the same patterns as the Nutmeg Sport Challenge league. This week's was very short. My scores were 183, 189, & 187.

This was actually the second week of the season. I was pleasantly surprised to be in 6th place out of 26 after the first week since all I had said to Chris was “sign me up and and I’ll get the money for the first week to you later”. Not only did I get signed up, he also got one of his employees from the pro shop to sub for me.

The format this season is one against the field. In other words, you get a point for each bowler that you beat, and everyone moves one pair to the right after each game. Not my favorite format since you’re competing on different pairs and the part of the house where we’re assigned is noted for having couple tricky lanes and the way we switch means that everyone will get at least one “bad” pair, but 5 people will get both bad pairs each week.

Well, we're through the first four weeks of Buddies Summer Challenge and I'm just getting around to posting my scores. Amazingly the recap from the most embarrassing set has gone missing, and we don't even have a dog. Anyway here are the other scores:

6/7/21 Billy Hardwick pattern
Set 2: 167, 180
Lost both games to one of the guys from the proshop who was subbing.
To give an idea of how bad the missing set 1 scores were, I had an average of 151 or 152 going into week two.

6/14/21 Billy Hardwick pattern
Set 1: 157, 168. Lost both to one of the kids who graduated from our youth league 2 years ago.
Set 2: 170, 160. Lost both to another Youth league alumnus.

6/21/21 Marshal Holman pattern
Set 1: 145, 170. Won the first game by 2 pins, lost the second by 15. Was bowling one of the three people in the league older than myself.
Set 2: 142, 190. Lost both to one of our current youth bowlers, ( Because it's a singles league, Youth bowlers are allowed to compete with their prize moneys going into their USBC Smart Accounts )

6/28/21 Marshall Holman pattern
Set 1: 185, 183. First game was close until my opponent struck out in the 9th & 10th to win by 27 pins. Second game I won by 32.
Set 2: 178, 151. My opponent was a woman who is filling in for her husband who signed up for the league and has yet to throw a shot. I won both games. First week that my spare shooting wasn't completely horrible. Naturally now that I'm starting to fell like I know what I'm doing in this league we don't bowl on the 5th.

Good question. We have 7 kids that I’m pretty sure are U18 and maybe 3 or 4 more that might be. I know two of the young adults did the Safe Sport training and I’m compliant through my youth league coaching. I honestly have no idea if anyone else is.

The requirement that all adult bowlers bowling with junior bowlers having to be SafeSport compliant is what caused all adult leagues at our center to pass rules that bowlers must be 18+. Most of the adult bowlers flat-out refused to become SafeSport compliant [many threatening to quit any league with under age 18 bowlers] so there was really no choice but to require 18+. There were not a lot of under 18 bowlers, but there would be occasions where juniors would come in as subs or something of that nature.

Before SafeSport no one really cared as long as the parental permission form was signed, but then when the requirement came out it became a hot button issue.

Set 2: 179, 185
The first set was supposed to be against one of the best junior bowlers in the state, but she was off at Junior Gold. Her older sister subbed for her and really struggled to get the ball to stay on the right side of the headpin. Second set I was supposed to face a college student who had been in our local youth league. She was also away at Junior Gold. Her sub was a young woman who bowled for Sacred Heart University and has made the stepladder of at least one PWBA tournament. She struggled a bit the first game with a bunch of splits, but figured things out the next to beat me by about 30 pins and take wood for the set.

Sounds like a cool league.

I joined a parent/child league the first half of last fall and it was sanctioned and they wanted you to do the SafeSport thing. I can't remember if I did it or not. They "asked" us to do it but sort of admitted that it had been a real problem getting people to do it so they were gonna kinda "leave it alone" unless they got a complaint. I think their hope was everyone would do it and if everyone didn't...then they'd just hope that none of the parents complained or requested that they follow through with making them do it.

I joined a challenge league this summer...not knowing it was going to be essentially youth bowlers. The guy running the center, I guess, was a high school coach so he started a summer challenge league and most of his team worked at the center and joined the league. I was the only person over the age of 25 and one of only two people over the age of 18. Then there were about 5 kids ranging from 15-17. I usually held my own...but could never win a stepladder match.

I only was in the league a couple weeks before transferring to my Tuesday summer league. Only had a chance to bowl on "Winding Road" and "Route 66" patterns...which are Kegal Navigation Sport Series patterns.

I think you would remember if you had actually done the safe sport training. Most people who I know that have taken it complained about how long it took to complete.

Some of our adult bowlers have complained about having the kids in the league. Some of it may be jealousy. These kids have already bowled 3 games in youth league and now they’re throwing 4 more games with more speed and revs than I ever had and and they act like they could roll another 7 games after we’re done. Part of it is that they are teenagers and they’re still trying to figure out how to act like adults.

We must have dropped to 21 & 22 because I wound up with the same AWOL opponent the second set but the other bowlers on the pair were the guy subbing for the first place bowler,( who couldn’t be caught after set one and the last place bowler.

It didn’t feel like my game was off by very much but paid the maximum penalty for small errors.

First night of the season and a different format from the summer. Only three games, 4 or 5 bowlers per pair, every one moves one pair right after each game, one point is earned for each player you beat. The league manager is only disclosing the pattern length for the Junior Gold patterns since the name of the pattern is not announced in advance in JG competition. Giving the length just to keep the whining from the adults to a minimum.

We have 27 bowlers, a few more than in the recent past. It’s a mix of the middle aged guys who have been in the league for at least the last ten years or so, some college age kids who are still in the area, and some of the high school age kids from our junior league. At the league meeting it was mention that those people over 18 would have to complete the Safe Sport training.

This season the league spans from lane 35 to lane 44. Lanes 1-40 are the original part of the center, 41-56 were added later and even though all the lanes were converted to some sort of synthetics, lanes 41- 56 have more back end than the older lanes. Both weeks I went form old to new and back to old. Last week I just didn't figure out lanes 43-44, 4 splits in one game. This week I did as well moving to the high end but lost it on the move back to 37-38.

Another slow start. In this center lanes 1-40 tend to hook less than 41-56. The week’s sport pattern is applied on lanes 33-46. We move to the right after each game, skipping one pair, so I bowled one game on the low end and two games on the high end tonight. So I’m not sure if I just benefited from moving to lanes that favored the way I throw, or by following five good bowlers who broke the lane down well, or whether I just started executing better shots. It was a good night either way.

Did it take that long to throw it right, or did it take that long to figure out the shot? Big difference!

Good question Rob, and one would think it would be easy to answer. In hindsight I was rushing my deliveries trying to make spares the first two games. I did have a few strikes that felt right but I would guess in the first two games 15 of my strike attempts didn't feel right regardless of whether I was using the correct ball and line for the lane condition. The last game those percentages reversed. 75% felt good and only 25% felt off. The last six balls were strikes and five of those were both on target at the arrows and hit the pocket so it's possible that the good result influenced my perception of the delivery.

p.s. Out of the five of us crossing together, only the young two-hander shot over 200 the second game. The rest of us, including the owner of the pro-shop, were probably playing that pair wrong.

There were six scheduled for my pair, four of them were AWOL, and the other decided to bowl on a pair with more of his friends leaving me by myself. I let the manager know there was no one else on my lane , so he said to move to one of the pairs with 4 bowlers. So we bowled with one pair of lanes idle each game.

Instead of a blind score based on the missing person's average or one based on your own average you have to beat 172. I think falling 13 pins short that first game threw me into a funk for the rest of the set. Pattern: Junior Gold something?

Scores:208, 193, 197, 598 series

For this half of the season the league manager is doing every week as a position week. 10 points are earned for every game you win from your opponent and twenty for total wood. you also earn one point for every score you beat in the rest of the field each game and for every series you beat. So there are lots of points available each week. The other weird thing is we're bowling 5 to a pair so the four bowlers at the bottom of the standing sheet are not bowling on the same pair as their opponent.

First game score was due to absolutely horrendous spare shooting. The Storm Mix that I use as my spare ball, which normally moves 0 to 1 boards on the house pattern, had been moving about 2 boards the previous weeks on this pattern. This week it was moving 4 or 5. I think it was me but other bowlers were seeing their White Dots and T-Zones hook too. Went from lowest score on the pair the first game to highest score the second and next to the highest for the third game and for wood among the four of us.

We still have three weeks left. The last pattern will be the Earl Anthony pattern, 43'

Pattern: Super Senior Classic

Set 1: 156, 171

Set 2: 159, 164

I'm splitting the season with my friend Tim who bowled the first week. The pattern didn't seem that hard. I had been at a DiRupo Bowling camp in NJ over the weekend and had made a somewhat substantial change in my approach and haven't quite figured out how to line up for my spares yet. I had a fair number of strikes but missed way too many spares.

The first set I got run over by one of the juniors that Tim and I coach. He rolled back to back 249s. The second set I won the first game by 30 pins and then lost total wood by 9.

Going by the schedule this week should have been the Team Trials 3 pattern. I think they announced last week that they had indeed run the Masters pattern week 7 so they adjust so each of the remaining patterns would get two weeks, or rather that we would get two weeks to figure out each of the remaining patterns.

The first set I lost the first set by 2 pins because I missed way too many easy spares:mad: Won the second game by more than 50 because my opponent (a teen aged two-handed lefty) still didn't have a good line and I put 5 strikes in a row:cool:

The second set I was up against the bowler who entered the night in first place. He struggled to find the line and I got out to a 20 pin lead and managed to mark just enough to stay ahead and win by 16. The second game he still couldn't figure out how to get more than a double. I kept making spares and the occasional strike to keep the game close. A missed ten pin in the 8th cost me the game but I held on to total wood.

Hadn't touched a bowling ball since 8/16, found out Sunday night my friend Tim was out of state and I wound have to bowl the last night of the summer session. I had to show up to help with the Juniors at 5:30, Challenge league is supposed to start at 8:00 on the same lanes as the kids had bowled on. The kids bowling on lanes 1-4 were slow finishing up. They could have started oiling at the other end and worked their way back but instead waited for the last kids to finish before starting the machine on lane one. Then someone realized that it was a double position round and the lane assignments were wrong for the first set. It was a very long evening and I was glad I manage to at least take a few points and bowl one decent game.

First night. The league manager didn't seem quite ready for the season to start. Normally we get a copy of the league rules which includes a list of the patterns we will be bowling on. Instead we got a verbal run down of how things would go, were told the first pattern was short and drew numbers for lane assignments. The format is weird. Position round every week plus bowling against the field. I drew #19 so I bowled against my friend Mark who had drawn #20. I won one game but lost the next two. However I also got a point for every score that I beat in the rest of the field.
They posted the standings and I'm in 22nd place out of 26. Places 21, 22, 23, 24 bowl against the vacant score of 172, while 25 and 26 bowl each other.

Every bowler, before making a comment like "I can bowl better than these guys (PBA bowlers on TV)"...should have to bowl just 3 nights in a challenge or sport shot league.

I'm pretty sure that we were indeed on the advertised pattern. This week it seemed like the outside line was the one to play. Still seems weird to see throwing urethane out to the two board and making it back to the pocket on a pattern this long. Started the first and second games with strikes followed by two opens. Third game started with a spare and then one open. It was looking to be a better game but the first ball in the tenth left a 2-5-7. I usually shoot for being at the alley half an hour before league is scheduled to start. That gives me ample time to find out what lane I'm starting on, get some coffee from the snack bar, get my stuff out, check the approaches etc. This week I went to our nephew's house for a birthday party for his 6 year old daughter. I got to the center 10 minutes before we were supposed to start. There were no standings sheets out, after finding my lane a friend came up and started asking for advise about a problem with his house before I even had my coat off. I was able to get my coffee and change into my bowling shoes before the lanes came on for practice, but no time to really loosen up and mentally shift to bowling mode.

Sometimes I think I need to bowl a game before league and get my stupid misses out of the way. First game was on 41-42 which always plays a bit (some would say a lot) different than 43-50. Figured out the right lane fairly early. Openned on the left up until the tenth. Felt like I was throwing it well, just not lined up right. Most of us did better moving to 43-44. One of us had a 222, the other two bowlers both shot 198. I felt like I belonged for about 5 minutes:) We had relatively long waits between games. Our pair only had 4 bowlers and the pair ahead of us had five, two of whom were either giving or waiting for two lane courtesy. Started by missing an easy spare, didn't get a whole lot better.

First week of the second half, new pattern. Maybe there's some hope for this half, didn't lose every game in the head to head and it looked like there were a fair number of scores less then 150 each game for the 1 v field. We had two bowlers drop out for this half and I think one bowler was AWOL so three of the pairs only had 4 bowlers. Mine was one of those pairs and we had one of the three lefties in the league on it so we didn't see a lot of transition with in each game The changes were usually moving from pair to pair. Started on 47-48 and had to move parallel in on 49-50. Going to 41-42 there is always a lot more motion. Switched from a Phase II to a HyRoad and went Brooklyn for a strike the first frame. Moved my target a board right and got a pocket strike frame two and and moved my feet a bit left the next frame to start with a turkey. the rest of the game wasn't quite at that level of execution but good enough to beatify opponent.

I looked completely lost during warm ups. Started game one with a spare then opened with a split frame two. After that I sort of figured out the pair and had a decent game. Moving to lanes 49-50 it took a little while to get lined up again. Made a few errant shots including leaving a washout on the first ball in the tenth. Made the spare and left a stone 8 on the fill. Ran out of steam in the last game. This game was on 41-42, which most of the time requires opening up your angles and balling down. I think because of the length of the patterned possibly the number of urethane balls thrown in the first two games I was able to move left a bit and kept on throwing the Phase II. Just wasn't executing as well as I had been.

Pattern: ? I think it was the same as last week.

Scores: Did not bowl

I thought I was restricted to non-strenuous activities for 5-6 days so I got a sub and sat out. The only good part was that my sub got to bowl on the same pair with his son. Missed my Wednesday league with a doctor’s appointment, where I found out the restriction was only 3 days. Today I was back for my Thursday league, won the high game pot, had two games over average and a series that was about 40 pins over, and my team won two games plus total pin fall.

Buddies Winter Challenge 3/11/24(Week25)

Pattern: 2024 US Open Pattern #3

Scores: 166, 214, 177, 557 series

This week I started on 49-50, a pair that typically plays with significantly more hook on lane 50. Only took 9 frames for it to dawn on me that with almost 50' of oil with a 1.25 to 1 ratio, the two lanes played the same. Moved to 41-42 and decided to try the HyRoad. This pair almost always hooks more and it might not have been as much as usual but it was enough for the lanes to play differently. the last game I didn't get quite the carry as I had game two but it was a solid game until I wife a ten pin in the tenth.

Pattern: 2024 US Open Pattern #3

Scores: 138, 146, 211, 495 series

You would think third time on the same pattern would be the charm and I would improve on last weeks decent scores. I had too much speed on the ball in the first two games, even when I had tried to slow it down. It really hurt to foul on the fill ball of the tenth game one and to fouls on the first ball in the tenth game two. I doubt if I have any more than 5 fouls total in the last ten years of bowling. The 211 was on the same pair that I shot 214 last week. On to something new and different next week.

Yeah. One of the many significant advantages pros have over amateurs...it seems like they see something and make immediate correct decisions. For me, it seems like I spend more than game trying to figure things out.

The league manager is out at the USBC Masters. It was supposed to be a new pattern this week, definitely played different, but no word on what the pattern was.

Forgot to ask so I still don't know what pattern we're on. There were several complaints that it didn't play like last week. I wish I had enough consistency to be able to complain about that.

Talked to one of the guys who usually knows what the pattern is. He was pretty sure it was U S Open #4 but that was from knowing it was a U S Open pattern and judging how it played the first 2 weeks.

Because I moved up in the standings after last week I wound up starting on 47-48 as I had last week. That may account for the higher scores or maybe it was due to the eclipse:cool:

A lot of bowlers, including myself, would LOVE to shoot a 234 on a sport pattern. Highest I managed was a 220 and that was on the 45' Black Diamond...back in mid-2019.

Shot 700-something on Cheetah a few years back, but after watching the pros decimate the pattern, I guess that's not a big accomplishment....
