So I have a quick question for you all. Now I have always heard that when you release the ball the thumb comes out first (no argument there) and then you lift off the meaty part of your fingers and thats what creates the rotation that you need to make the ball hook. Now there is where my question comes in, I've been bowling for the better part of a decade now and noticed that when I lift it is off the side of my fingers more then front of them. Now I've been working a lot on my mechanics and trying to fix this, but I am seeing virtually no improvement in it. Am I over thinking things or does anyone else think I should just push through this and trust that it will get better? My whole arsenal is basically polished, but I am not seeing the ball turn over at all... Any ideas at all will be great.

plug, or buy a new ball and have the Tri-Grip applied by a driller that is knowledgeable in that technique!
It's the difference between NIGHT and day in your release! For everyone I know personally that has had it done, they are amazed at the comfort, and increased revs, and flip at the end of the lane!

How did i know when i opened this thread, the iceman would be here talking about the tri grip lol
In regards to your question cjgreco, it sounds like youre coming around the side of the ball instead of through it. Imo this would be a better question to ask a coach to give you a true answer as i am not one.

Tri-grip is like cheating though, same as using a reactive ball, a wrist device, or glasses if you have problems with eyesight

Actually unless you are throwing purely end over end roll I would think it would be normal to feel like the ball is partially coming off the sides of the fingers. After all the ball is rotating counter clockwise as it leaves the hand.
A good test would be to see where members here tend to see the wear on their finger inserts if they use them. Is the wear only on the fronts or somewhat on the sides? I'd have to look at mine to know.

Thanks for all the comments guys, and yeah it is an odd thing to stop and look at. I am also trying to get out of the habit of being cupped at the bottom. The tri grip seems like a good idea, a way to help you get out of the ball cleaner. I do have a tendency to come at all at once at times, though It only happens once for every like 50 throws now a days..

What does this tri-grip even look like? What is it supposed to benefit? Now I'm curious :p

it dont look any different its more about proper fitting and getting all the pitches correct to go more with the natural positioning of the hand.
