I've seen people talking about when their league ends and sweeps, what the heck does that mean? I bowl in a USBC sanctioned league if that makes any difference.

Its the last night of league when the points dont matter You generally pay a few bucks to enter and its the most over average wins they will pay so many places.
At least thats how we do it. Like a few weeks ago in my Tuesday night league we came in got paid out for the league and to enter sweeps was $5.00 it paid 13 places if I remember correctly

Ok thanks, yeah Friday for us is the halfway point of our league, and since we're nowhere near first place I guess the points don't matter much other than for practice since the rankings reset for the second half of the season if I understand the rules correctly.

I think I asked this when I first joined the site. And it's something I never really got a bulletproof answer on. Many leagues are "sweeper" leagues…especially out here in California and they will "sweep in Vegas". From what I'm told, it just means that at the end of the season, the league goes to Vegas to bowl in a little tournament and give out prizes. And usually "sweeper leagues" are more expensive ($21-$24 a night) because part of the league money goes towards lodging and putting on the tournament and prize money.

Outside the west coast, many leagues will do sleepers in nearby big cities or casinos that have an alley or are nearby an alley. Many of the leagues in Orange and LA county "sweep in" Vegas or Laughlin…due to proximity. The casinos and big alleys there have special "packages" for leagues to attract them.

My first one will be the end of March so I'm looking forward to giving you a more first hand answer come April.
