Thanks baker! Realistically it would probably be next year - a bit closer to home and more likely that I'll know/find a team in time to get out there. I put out a couple feelers for this year but it's getting a bit close to plan for at this point. As for NEBA - not embarrassing myself is probably goal #1 for the first couple tournaments, haha. There are some very skilled bowlers in there.
This week was a mixed bag -
Tues Mens:
184, 207, 201 - 592 series
Strikes: 48% (16/33)
Spares: 81% (13/16)
- Single Pin: 90% (10/11)
- Multi Pin: 60% (3/5)
- Splits: 0% (0/1)
First Ball Average: 9.18
Basically couldn't string anything together. was on the end pair and had to combat a couple odd issues - two bowlers on the other team used house balls (a real rarity in a competitive league) and one of our bowlers, who plays a similar line to me decided to resurface his ball without actaully knowing how to do it... after deoiling his ball he took sandpaper and really scuffed it up which led to interesting results for him. I loaned him my abralon to fix it up for next week with some instructions. lol... anyway it led to some really interesting breakdown that was pretty tough to combat. Game 2 was clean, game 3 was clean minus a big split I got in frame 6 sandwiched by 2 strikes on either side of it. I really only missed on one or 2 shots the whole night, left a lot of singles.
Thursday Mixed:
213, 219, 184 - 616 series
Strikes: 46% (15/32)
Spares: 88% (15/17)
- Single Pin: 92% (13/14)
- Multi Pin: 66% (2/3)
- Splits: 0% (0/1)
First Ball Average: 9.34
Pretty similar. tons of 10 pins, covered all but 1. Game 1 I was on a 4-bagger til the 10th in which I ended the game with a 7-10 split. Game 2 was clean, game 3 I had 8? 9 pin counts. I don't think I matched my line up that well. The ball was coming out nicely and I was on my marks but didn't make the right moves.
I've evened out at 210 avg. in both leagues, which I'm pretty happy with. Hope to keep it there for the remainder of the season!

USBC Open tournament (team) -
190, 159, 167 - 516 series
Strikes: 27% (9/33)
Spares: 62% (15/24)
- Single Pin: 91% (11/12)
- Multi Pin: 33% (4/12)
- Splits: 12% (1/8)
First Ball Average: 8.64
Ugh. This was a USBC blue pattern to start with, but singles and doubles had both already bowled and burnt up the lanes ahead of us. I matched up poorly again (I expected a fresh pattern this time) and brought my newly resurfaced haywire and hyroad along with a spare ball. The haywire was burning up before 30 feet. Game 1 I was actually clean, but only had 2 strikes. I was playing wayyyy inside (over the middle arrow out to about 7) but had so many single pins. By game 2 that line was toast and nothing I could do worked. I ended up with a line on one of the lanes and splits regardless of lineup/mark on the other. I should have just tried to go brooklyn, to be honest. I was moving every frame in game 3 to try to get a line, which I finally found in the 9th frame. I closed strong at least - with the hyroad throwing essentially up the middle + loft at about 19 mph, it made a late turn at just the right time to carry corners.
My 516 series was high set on my team. The other team were all 220+ averages, including a guy who was at 240. he didn't come close to 600. It was a humbling experience for pretty much everyone on the pair.

It was a humbling experience for pretty much everyone on the pair.
I like doing tournaments at different houses and seeing those 1-3 bowlers that think they are "God's gift"...and they barely break 500.
But yes...I did an ABT tourney and the finals were after that day's Day Squad...so the lanes were burnt up pretty good. By the time I adjusted...it was Game 3 and I think I finished in last place in the casher's round. Drove over an hour just to get my --- handed to me. : (

I think the only person who really fit that criteria was the person who showed up but didn't bowl because "he knew the conditions were going to be bad and didn't like bowling on them". LOL... I say even if it's bad, I appreciate the challenge and it's a learning experience if I face it again. Struggling with a hard condition makes me a better bowler.
Posting now because tomorrow a foot of snow is forecast (again) and we'll be getting cancelled short of a complete reversal of forecast.
Tues Men's:
237, 277, 223 - 737 series
Strikes: 73% (25/34)
Spares: 75% (6/8)
- Single Pin: 100% (4/4)
- Multi Pin: 50% (2/4)
- Splits: 0% (0/2)
First Ball Average: 9.59
Timing was good, I think bowling Saturday really helped. Game 1 I was over/under for the first couple of frames which resulted in a high 6/10, a high flush strike, and a light 7-10. I made an adjustment 1 board left and cruised from there. Game 2 started front 9 before I left a flat 10 in the 10th. Gah. Game 3 I was behind transition a bit but adjusted and finished strong.
All 3 games with the haywire... that thing rolls so nice when there's some oil to cut through. Thinking about picking up another one before it's discontinued.

Thank you both! I seem to be in an odd rhythm right now where I'm 700+ or sub-600. Nothing around average but I guess it averages out...
Updating now because I'm actually missing Thurs this week (and next week, and the week after)
Tuesday Men's:
183, 212, 190 - 585 series
Strikes: 45% (16/35)
Spares: 72% (13/18)
- Single Pin: 71% (10/14)
- Multi Pin: 75% (3/4)
- Splits: 0% (0/1)
First Ball Average: 9.26
And ironically had I made my spares, this night would have been really close to average. I went in and practiced 10 pins on Monday, and proceeded to miss my first THREE last night. It would have been a 35 point swing in game 1 if I had covered those... I ended up needing to end that game XX/XXX to grind out a 183, oof. Game 2 was fine, I was lined up but had a split in the middle of a nice run, a couple spares here and there for a decent enough game. Game 3 I started leaving 10s again. Moved all over, tried different lines just could. not. get. it. out of there. Had 5 10s in a row at one point, covered all but 1. Again, if I had covered... closer to average... but ifs are just that, ifs.
My team told me not to go in and practice 10s before league again, lol. They might be right - at least not the day before!

One update this week (and none next), I'm actually in Florida right now and only bowled Tuesday this week. Sorry, no Kegel training center this time - didn't bring any balls with me. Although that is somewhere I'd really like to visit at some point. Maybe next year. Anyways..
Tuesday Mens:
237, 208, 257 - 702 series
Strikes: 63% (21/33)
Spares: 91% (11/12)
- Single Pin: 88% (8/9)
- Multi Pin: 100% (3/3)
- Splits: NA% (0/0)
First Ball Average: 9.45
Great night here. I missed a single 9-pin on the first frame of game 1... was clean the rest of the way. I started with the Hyroad and had a good line, towards the end of game 2 it got jumpy and I moved to the haywire to smooth out the reaction downlane. It worked... game 3 was really solid, I had a nice 7 in a row from frames 4-11 and helped the team take the game/series by a few pins. Of some concern is the lack of consistency week to week, I seem to be in a "700+ or 500s" pattern. It's evening out but kind of weird, I'd like to be 700+ or 600+ on those off nights.
Immediate edit - that last part came off as a little bit complaining, not at all - I'm thrilled to be having as many good games/nights as I have had this year. I am always looking to improve though - and at this point, the "bottom end" is the easiest place to look. When you're on, you're on. When you're off is when you need to look at making sure things are right.

Tuesday Men's:
238, 194, 223 - 655 (Clean)
Strikes: 55% (19/34)
Spares: 100% (15/15)
- Single Pin: 100% (13/13)
- Multiple Pin: 100% (2/2)
Splits: NA (0/0)
First Ball Average: 9.35
No really big games, but I threw well and kept it clean - which is always a really nice feeling. 11 of my 13 single pin leaves were 10 pins. I wasn't really following through correctly which I think contributed to the high number. Aside from that, I only missed pocket on one ball, after switching in the middle of game 2 to the haywire it dropped off to the right on the first shot, too much to recover with it and left a 5 count (bucket plus 7). Also really happy with my spare conversions, miss a few of those and a good night turns lousy pretty fast. Being off 2 weeks I think I was using more muscle memory which helped!
Thurs Mixed:
223, 268, 195 - 686 series
Strikes: 63% (21/33)
Spares: 75% (9/12)
- Single Pin: 80% (8/10)
- Multiple Pin: 50% (1/2)
Splits: 0% (0/1)
First Ball Average: 9.55
Switched balls from hyroad to haywire really early after getting over/under right out of hte gate. After switching I began piling up strikes, ended game 1 well and opened front 7 in game 2 before 2 10pins. Game 3 I blew the 700 by finally breaking my 10 pin made streak by dumping 2 of them in the gutter... whoops. We pulled out the game though.
Really happy with how both of these nights went. Felt good to get back out there and I didn't feel any rust. Tuesday's team is in the running (which would be a first), really trying to close out the season there. Averages are 213 and 210 respectively.

Thursday Mixed:
212, 205, 205 - 622 series
Strikes: 52% (18/34)

This set was not clean. I started with a dumped 10 in frame 1 game 1, actually. I didn't get much warm up in and it showed... I wasn't really comfortable with my release all night. I did finish pretty well in games 1 and 2 to keep us close in 1 and struck out to win in game 2. Game 3 was going well but I ended with a 7-10 split that I thought felt good off my hand. Eh, what can ya do. 3 200s on a night where I didn't feel super comfortable on the lanes is a win in my book.

225, 244, 171 - 640 series

Game 1 and 2 had similar stories - clean minus a big split. Game 1 was a 7-10, game 2 was a 4-9. Both on strings. I was using the hyroad and although it had a great look for the first 2, the line was gone even after adjustments by the end of game 2. I made a ball change, up to the haywire, but couldn't find a line that worked (had moved left, but after a few frames I wasn't going in correctly or consistently) so I went back to the hyroad and ground out the game. Bleh. Kind of got into my old bad habits there at the end and the series fell apart after a really good start.
Thurs Mixed:
170, 237, 234 - 641 series
Strikes: 51% (17/33)
Spares: 85% (12/14)
- Single Pin: 88% (8/9)
- Multiple Pin: 80% (4/5)
Splits: 0% (0/1)
First Ball Average: 9.27
Game 1 was a mess. Timing bad, release bad, I could tell I was forcing it. Paid for it with a lot of inconsistencies. I don't know what changed but game 2 was way better, as was game 3. Both opens came in game 1, cleaned up nicely from there. If I had to guess what changed, in game 2/3 I was making sure I followed through and posted the shot, which helped with the rest of the stuff.

Tuesday Mens:
235, 237, 231 - 703 series

Started out with a nice line with the HyRoad, adjusted from there. Lanes broke down in game 2 and 3 but I was able to keep up with the transition today (always really happy when I'm able to stay ahead of it!). Really only missed on one ball, which was a split in the third game - clean besides that. Very consistent scores and helped the team to stay in the hunt, they were struggling with their games - but so was the other team, fortunately for us.
Thurs Mixed:
224, 216, 228 - 668 series
Strikes: 57% (19/33)
Spares: 91% (11/12)
- Single Pin: 91% (11/12)
- Multiple Pin: NA% (0/0)
Splits: NA% (0/0)
First Ball Average: 9.52
I didn't realize I essentially threw a no tap 900 until I was updating these scores, lol. I can't really claim that because I missed a spare in the 10th of game 2. Other than that, clean! Pretty much on spot again with my line, release and shot, was hammering the pocket all night. It's time to de-oil and touch up the surface on the haywire though, I've been using it the past couple weeks as a ball-down from my hyroad - and not needing to move in when I switch to it (just basically smooths out the shot when the HyRoad gets over/under).

This was kind of a weird night. I started with my resurfaced haywire because I thought I had a good line in practice with a few booming strikes. Then the game started... a couple of 10s, a split that I got too far outside on, and a through-the-nose 4/7 later and I was sitting at a 70 in the 5th frams. I switched to the hy road and nearly punched out, and salvaged the game. Game 2 and game 3 I was locked in, and a couple of 4 pins and a 10 pin away from all strikes. Completely turned the series around, I felt like I was going to be lucky to hit 500 after the first half of game 1.
Thurs Mixed:
263, 246, 226 - 735 series
Strikes: 76% (26/34)
Spares: 62% (5/8)

Splits: 0% (0/1)
First ball Avg: 9.65
Came in with no warm up (was late from work) and just guessed at a line with the hy road. I guessed right. I had some miss room downlane tonight and the ball was driving perfectly. I was pretty much in the pocket the entire night and adjusted well - end of game 3 went a little over/under and started leaving a few 10s but closed out well! Big week this week in both leagues.
Funny story, this is a trios league and despite my 735 we got swept all games and total. We were 2nd highest pincount across the league, 2nd only to the team that we were playing.

It's actually on the bucket list (although, I feel like once I do one I"m going to want to do more...). First a few things though, I need to practice/get better on sport and PBA patterns. I've become a LOT better this year with reading ball motion and transition, but I think it's a lot easier to do so on a house pattern vs. sport. And with a little one on the way, bowling in general is going to be dialed back next year or two - already planning on dropping to one league through fall/winter next year. We'll see though, NEBA and PBA regionals are definitely a goal that I'm hoping for sooner compared to later.
Very nice bowling ! got to love the Hy Road !

Thanks Tony. The Hy Road for me has turned into a true benchmark ball. First out of the bag, and it's reaction lets me know where to play/to ball up/down after just one or two throws in practice. Love it!
Tues Men's:
215, 219, 203 - 637 series
Strikes: 50% (17/34)

Eh, my release wasn't quite right, I wasn't getting out of the ball at the right moment. Less revs and less carry overall. Not a terrible night by any means, but it was tough to string anything together and consistent. Our team got swept, we're probably out of the playoff picture with 2 weeks to go (still 3rd but the 2 in front of us both had big nights).
Thurs Mixed:
279, 237, 213 - 729 series
Strikes: 76% (26/34)
Spares: 75% (6/8)

Totally on last night. Game 1 was a 4-pin away from perfect - I tugged a ball and went in high, completely deserved. Game 2 I tweaked my line a bit, missed a 10 pin but finished out strong. game 3, with a shot at an 800, started front 4 then the line broke down. This is a mixed league with most everyone bowling plastic (for reference, tehre was one other reactive on the lanes besides me) and it wasn't driving/finishing right. I did find a very tight line but finished with a pocket 7-10 that... didn't drive. Meh. Still a really good night again - averages in leagues are coming together.

Solid & around the pocket all night. Fell behind a teeny bit on transition towards the end of game 2 and started game 3 with a pocket 7-10, that was all I needed to switch to the haywire, move in a bit and started stringing strikes again. Team is officially out of the running for first, but if we can close well next week we'll at least get a decent chunk for a third/second place finish - and if we do bad we can slide all the way back to 6/7th... so there's definitely some on the line next week.

Front 7 game 1 then a pulled shot that left a 6... game 2 front 8 then a weak 10. Game 3... started XX9/XXXX then... weak 10 for a 9/, 800 still in play with 2 frames to go... then a ring 10 on a beautiful looking shot. Which I missed the spare on since the 800 was off the line. Plain and simple, I choked. I had a spare to play with which I used in the 8th... then didn't convert in the 9th when I needed a strike. Definitely had a few nerves there. As for the games? I had a great line with the hy road, reading the lanes beautifully. Oddly enough they felt somewhat tight, if I missed even a tiny bit inside there was a 10 waiting for me on the other end.
The hot streak for me started in January, I've pretty much just had my timing down really well and read the lanes well, and hit my marks consistently. I don't think I'll be averaging 230 over a season, but it's sure fun for now :)

LOL thanks guys... I think there's a looong way to go before that Aslan. I could just ask easily run into a cold streak where nothing falls. I absolutely do plan on a few scratch tournaments and eventually regionals, but it is going to be a bit of time - I absolutely need practice on straight left side spares as well as adapting to/reading sport patterns. My alley puts a few lanes out with various sport patterns on Fridays in the summer, I'm going to be requesting those specifically when I can get in for practice.
As for anything left to prove... a certified honor score would be nice!

Case in point!
Tues Mens:
198, 214, 179 - 591 series
Strikes: 53% (16/30)
Spares: 57% (8/14)
- Single Pin 100% (4/4)
- Multiple Pin: 40% (4/10)
Splits 0% (0/5)
First ball avg: 9.00
Finished up this league at a 214.72 average, dropped a pin last night. Started off fine, but the lane began transitioning super quickly - frames 4-5 in game 1. I did a very poor job of being anchor, game 1 was a pocket 7-10 split to end the game (lost by 6), game 2 was a shot that was on my target but came in too much for a 4-7-10 (we won that one!) and third game was a 4-6 (lost that one, but won total to defend our third place).
I had a couple issues last night, one being that when the lanes transitioned I got into a couple old bad habits - not every shot, but I tend sometimes to try overpowering the lanes. It leads me to tug the ball, and that definitely happened a few times here. The left lane ended up playing 6-7 boards more hook than the right by game 3, I adapted but obviously didn't close the games well. I also ran into some issues where a couple high rev guys were to my left, moving in hit their tracks and led to over/under, making adjustments difficult. But still, without those splits each game would have been >200 easily and we would have won at least game 1, and would have moved into 2nd place.
Final league stats:
Average: 214.72
High game: 277
High series: 779
Strikes 55% (593/1076)
Spares: 77% (352/453)
- Single Pin: 88% (263/298)
- Multiple Pin: 57% (89/155)
Splits: 8% (4/50)
Interesting (to me) pinpal stats - most common leave, 10 pin - 183 times. 2nd most common leave, 4 pin - only 34 times. I left more 7-10 splits than I left single 3 pins, single 6 pins, single 8 pins, or single 5 pins. I left 1 single head pin, which I apparently converted for a spare. I missed the head pin on 11 first ball throws through the season.

...I got into a couple old bad habits - not every shot, but I tend sometimes to try overpowering the lanes. It leads me to tug the ball, and that definitely happened a few times here.
I have that same problem. If the lanes aren't working...I think I can "make them work"...with even worse results than you experience.

Thanks NTB.
Aslan I think it's just something that seems natural from back when I didn't know what I was doing... if something isn't working just throw harder and try to force revs on it. It's pretty unproductive, and realizing it in the moment(then adjusting) is important but easier said than done sometimes.

Well I was a little inconsistent with my release most of the night, when it was good it was striking and when it wasn't I was coming up with too much roll and not getting the turn/drive I needed. Game 1 I had a couple washouts around some strikes with the hy road, and ended up with a pocket 7-10 in the 10th. My FOURTH split in a row in 10th frames. I did strike out in games 2 and 3, so that was a little b etter haha. I switched to the haywire in game 2 and had a clean game, moving with the oil. Game 3 I ran into the release issues again after a turkey to start. Had 4 or 5 frames where it just didn't come off right, then got it back for the end. It was nice to end the year on a good note in game 3.
League Stats:

If anything, consistent across the leagues which are very different (Tuesday is 5 man, competitive with normal pattern breakdown, Thursday is mixed league where most of the league has plastic, some with house balls - carry down is still a factor). I tended to focus a little less here, being a fun league, which shows in the single pin % difference - although I was below my goal of 90% in both leagues.
Interesting stat: 151 ten pin leaves, next closest was 4 pin at 40 leaves. 7-10 was my 4th most common leave in this league (attribute that to some of what I mentioned above), I left 17 of them. I missed head pin 14 times total in this league on ball 1, two of which occurred last night. I had 2 first ball gutter balls (one I remember off my leg a few weeks ago), both of which were converted for spares.
On to summer league.

Summer league doesn't start til next week, we were already accused of being sandbaggers because my partner doesn't have a sanctioned/certified average, only one from a mixed league in the house. Should be fun!

On a league with 45 teams we were actually paired up with the guys I mentioned in my last post. They were actually completely fine... and using my partners book avg probably would have ended up helping them a little, ironically. Game 1 I was definitely rusty, I was coming up the back of the ball too much and not getting the drive I needed for my line. I ended up playing more down and in to compensate, but it was a lot of spares. No doubles etc. Game 2 I got my "snap" release back and things went a whole lot better. Game 3 I was locked in and swinging it with the haywire. I've been considering new balls, but not sure I need them right now considering how well the progression's been working thus far.

For me it's if I'm not releasing right or my timing is off in game 1. If i'm getting a good clean shot I can adjust, game 1 is typically my highest score - oil's freshest and generally hasn't begun transitioning much yet.
Monday doubles:
212, 184, 195 - 591 series

Speaking of which... timing and release were horrendous. I was just way off on pretty much everything. I don't think I deserved as high a score as I got. There seemed to be a lot of pin action tonight for whatever reason and that's pretty much why I was able to cobble together the strike % and games I did. However, all 3 games I didn't feel natural, left big splits, missed a couple spares, etc. My wrist hurt by the end of the night which just reiterated that I was forcing my shot badly. Even my teammate who doesn't really... watch or pay attention to much... commented that I didn't look right.
Gonna try to get in for some practice at some point this week/weekend and fix those timing/release issues.

Our games seem similar.
It feels like the skill is "there"...but I usually can't "settle down" that first game...can't get my timing in sync, etc...
The good news...if we can ever figure that out...get that timing in sync in practice...the skill is there.

Felt much more in synch out of the gate this week. Started front 5 both games 1 and 2, but the 6th frame was lousy in both - one was a big split and the other left a ring 10 that I proceeded to dump in the gutter. I was pretty happy with my strike ball tonight but there's not much of an excuse for the poor spare shooting for the first few weeks here. I missed the cutoff for the "eliminator" tournament by 1 after game 2, bleh.

I often feel the same way. I love seeing the strikes and the high scores...but being 72-75% on the single pins I leave ends up dampening my spirits. Sometimes striking is almost a "bad" think...especially on a THS....because it lulls you into thinking you're (or we're) top notch bowlers...then we go to a tournament or bowl on sport conditions...and suddenly we're not striking as much and have to rely on spare shooting...and < 90% just doesn't cut it. I've been watching a lot of the PBA50...and there's been a LOT of missed single-pin spares...more than I ever saw before. Just makes me think, here are a group of guys that probably average 230 on a THS...they don't have to shoot single-pin spares too often during their league play...then they get out on "the tour"....and they're shooting 165-189 and missing single-pins.
Sometimes, when I leave a flat 10 or 7...I just think to myself, "Good....this'll give me a chance to work on my spare shooting."

I had a really nice release tonight, one where it was effortless and revved up really nicely. That's usually a good omen for scoring. I actually struggled at the start of game 1, my first 4 shots left all 4 pins in the back row, then went high and left a 3 in the 5th. I changed balls before the 5th and by the 6th was lined up and struck out. Kept with the haywire in game 2, then switched back to the hyroad for game 3 when the haywire started burning up. Solid scores and happy with the night!

Bipolar scores. My "off" games weren't bad per se, but I chopped a spare in game 1 and also missed a single pin. game 2 I was using one ball on one lane and the other one on the other to great success. We were end pair and it was incredibly hot and humid. I stuck on my 3rd step a few times and it kinda got in my head a bit. Game 3 was going OK but I had a couple of really poorly timed splits. Just an OK night with a really good game stuck in the middle, lol.

No excuse for such poor spare shooting. I missed a pair of 9 pins and 10 pins. Make those 4 and I would have been up at a 700. Each was after a string and before a strike too. Game 1 I wasn't feeling super comfortable with my line and had a bit of over/under trouble with the hyroad. Switched to the haywire towards the end of game 1, finished strong and stayed with that ball for games 2/3. I was a little behind transition by the end of game 3 and should have moved earlier. Finding it tough to have time to get into practice, but I can't keep missing this many single pins!

Absolutely been there!
Usually, after a bad spare shooting night...regardless of how well I do overall...I end up forcing myself to play 1-2 games of low-ball. Whether it's right after league or on the weekend. The great thing about "low-ball" is it really doesn't matter how chewed up the pattern is.

I usually do something similar to low ball - at least 1 game when practicing where I'll try to hit corner pin first shot, and pick up whatever's left on the spare shot.

Well, I went and practiced spare shooting (had a week off too) and did great. In warm ups I was spot on. Then, in league I dumped my first 10 pin attempt into the gutter. >: ( The rest were fine.
I had a rough time after the lanes transitioned, game 3 I couldn't keep anything right of the head pin. I even balled way down (to a polished pearl that almost never comes out of my bag) and still didn't get the length I needed. I ran into a burnt up line inside, and had burnt my own line outside. Bleh. We also had a 300 bowled against us in game 1, obviously didn't win that one but did pick up the other 2!

First 4 frames of game 1 were a mess. open, open, spare, spare but both spares were on pretty bad first shots. I moved 1 board left and swung a little bit more and that was the trick. Strung together a bunch to end well. Game 2 I was lined up really well with the hyroad, I had one miss high for a 6 pin and a 10 pin in the 9th, that was it. Game 3 my line started to break down, I moved but eventually the ball began rolling out. I ended up changing to the haywire after a 7-10 split, and promptly followed that up with a blower 7-10 split. Ugh. Made another adjustment and ended OK. Clean except for the back-to-back 7-10s. I made all my single pins though, and both 10s off the 7-10 so... progress?

Good night - I didn't get much practice in and wasn't lined up game 1. Hyroad was not consistent, struggled through first 5 frames, with adjustments (split, strike, spare, spare, strike with a late 4-9 trip) and changed to the haywire and it was all good from there. Game 3 I was on a string of 6 in a row going into the 10th, left a 6-10 and missed it. Other team grumbled about it because the game was out of reach for them and it looked like a dump - which it wasn't, and I wasn't pleased about missing the 700. We have had a nice couple of weeks that have gotten us up into the top 10 and going against first place next week!

After I said that the lanes played pretty tight. The hyroad has been good in practice but not in game the last couple weeks - after 5 straight spares to start (most multiple pin) and a couple adjustments I ball changed to the haywire for the smoother reaction and bam. I tugged the 9th for a 4-7-10 but that was my only open for the night. Game 2 was strikes with a few 10 pins (and a 7) thrown in, game 3 was strikes minus a flat 10 on a shot I missed a touch outside on and a 10 pin leave in the fill frame.
It was a good thing I was locked in, I had about 3 boards max downlane to work with - had to be very accurate at the arrows. The real key has been staying ahead of transition... the last couple weeks I finally seem to have gotten into the groove there. Best of all... we were going against first place team and swept - just barely, by game differences of 4, 4, and 12.

Couldn't get anything going tonight. Something was off, and I also had a tough time reading the lanes. When I did find pocket, I didn't carry that well. Few odd splits, etc. We got swept and will be out of the running for the league (next week is last week). I'm missing that one actually so this was it for me. I was shooting for a 220 avg but ended up dropping a few instead. Finished this one at a 216. On the plus side - 11/11 in single pins, and ended the league with a made 10 pin, even though it didn't count for anything it still felt good to cover it!

Doubles Tournament -
So we had a smallish tournament, 2 games, a cut then a stepladder style elimination format. 38 teams, top 5 cashed. No lineage so all money went to prize fund.
Games 1/2 - 221, 212
We were last team to make the cut.
Game 3 (lane change, no practice) - 203. My partner really messed this game up with a 127... we did not advance.
Stats:
Strikes: 57% (20/35)
Spares: 73% (11/15)
- Single Pin: 77% (7/9)
- Multiple Pin: 66% (4/6)
Splits: 0% (0/2)
First ball average: 9.37
Game 1 I mostly did OK, used practice time to try a few different lines. Was clean except for a 4-9 split that I tugged. Game 2 I was playing different lines on each lane as they transitioned differently, outside of a pocket 7-10 I was clean here also.
Game 3 we were stuck on the end pair, I actually had a decent line at the start as I started out XXX but then started leaving single pins. 2 of them were 10s, and my plastic ball hooked around each time. Highly irritating/unexpected, and kinda sunk the game a bit. Made a ball change to salvage the 203 but by then it was too little too late. With my partners bad game making them wouldn't have mattered, I suppose.
Fall league (just 1 this year) starts next week. Looking forward to it!

On the end pair and adjusting back to 5-person leagues took a bit. Line was shot by frame 4 in game 1 and I had to chase the oil in for a few frames. Ended up with a 7-10 in there somewhere and ended up just not stringing anything together. Game 2 was better, went with a ball that went down the lane more and was able to bust out a decent game despite a missed 7-pin after a 4 bagger. Game 3 was a lot of tweaks/adjustments to find the pocket, was clean minus a 6-10 chop (doh).
All in all kind of a grind. Next week should be better. I felt like I had a good release/timing/aim but was playing catchup on the lanes. Starting out with a low series isn't a bad thing however, and we actually won so that was nice.

Game 1 was clean, just couldn't string much on the right lane. Game 2 I was definitely muscling the ball and not coming out clean enough to drive well to the pocket. I had a couple splits and also missed on a 10 pin (first of the year). Game 3 I focused heavily on posting my shot, which really helped. Started front 5 then mixed in a few spares for another clean game and a respectable series. All in all better than last week but some stuff mentally to keep in mind.

Eh, not much to say about this one really. I was making good shots, my timing and release were good, I simply couldn't string anything together. I was clean games 1 and 2 save for a 7-10 split each game unless you count a chop in the fill frame. Game 3 was clean (split in the 11th). The only balls I missed on were both 7-10s where it didn't come out clean and had zero drive through pocket. Brighter days will be ahead especially if I can continue throwing as well as I did.

Well game 1 my timing was pretty bad. First 2 frames were a stone 8 and then a ringing 10... had a couple of splits in game 1 that sunk that game, one where I left the ball very light and a 7-10.
I had switched balls at the end of game 1 to smooth out the reaction but it led to 2 chops in a row to start game 2 (a 2-4-5 that I left the 5 on, and a 3-6 that left the 6). I watched someone on the other team begin to find his line with a Crossroad - a ball similar to the Hyroad - after he had struggled in game 1 as well and decided to switch back to that ball, moving in a little. What a difference! Began stringing from there. Game 3 started with a 4-9 split that came in high, so I moved in again and strung together a bunch more save for a 10 pin in the 8th.
Strong finish to the set as well as a good start to the season on single pin coverage. Avg. is down a bit for now at 207 but definitely some positives thus far.

I went high in frame 1 and left a 6 pin, then rolled off 9 in a row before that 10. We had the first 300 of the year thrown against us in game 1 but still managed to win. Game 2 I kept rolling with the haywire but the line was starting to break down at the end. One shot got away from me for a 6-count, other than that just a couple 10 pins. Threw a tight line with the hyroad in game 3, had 3 10 pins and strikes rest of the way.
Big night - felt great to get that in and read transition well! Team is doing quite well also, early on of course but winning the close ones.

Felt good and loose after warm up and was clean through 2 games. Stayed ahead of transition and went hy-road for game 3, I left 24 pins on the table that game due to 2 10 pin whiffs. Other than that - really solid, and happy with this considering it had been 2 weeks since picking up a ball.

First game I wasn't matched up particularly well. I'd get a double, then a split, rinse and repeat. Just not a lot of error room, ball wasn't rolling well. Switched towards the end of game 1 and slowed the shot down. Game 2 started with 2 stone 8s in a row but was pretty good after that. Game 3 started with a 4 bagger but I lost my release a bit towards the end (which meant less revs, and produced less drive, etc). However the last 2 games were clean so no complaints there. Def some ups and downs but pulled together a decent night in the end.

Not a bad night at all. Had a good game 1 going but threw a pocket 7-10 in the 9th frame to lower that score quite a bit. game 2 I was dialed in, game 3 one of the lanes transitioned kinda weirdly and I had problems finding a line. I also chopped a 2-8, which annoyed me as that's not one I typically have any issues with.
Couple of stone 8s and 9s again last night, not sure what I can do to eliminate those but worth noting the number over the last couple weeks.

Well, I didn't have my best stuff ironically. I just found a line that gave me miss room. However I was a bit dicey on spares especially game 1 when I missed a 9 pin (hooked by it) and a 10 pin (dumped it). Game 2 I made an adjustment - higher starting stance and straightened up a bit - and got my form/shot back. Couple of 10 pins and strikes throughout. game 3 I was behind on transition and playing catch up. Wasn't as bad as the score indicated, had a couple of 4-10 splits and a chopped bucket. Kinda a bummer though as it coulda been a big night, shot was playing easy. We are actually going to be going for first place in position night (our season is in thirds) next week, first time for this league so that should be fun. Average is now at 220, which is my goal for the year!

Was OK in game 1, lost it a bit at the end with an open in the 9th. Didn't string much together. Game 2 I switched up to the haywire and couldn't miss. Had a 10 pin in the third frame and strikes the rest! Game 3 I'm not sure what happened but all that carry turned into ringing 10s, stone 8s (2)... and a split when I tried to make an adjustment. Went back to the hyroad and dealt with a couple more 10s but at least had a better look there. I didn't really feel like the lane was transitioning much but I must have missed something there. In all I had 7 9-counts in game 3 alone.
The bipolar night ended up near average, so that's not bad. On the positive side, we won the first third of the league and will be in the rolloff at the end of the year

First game I tried forcing a shot to work with the ball I wanted to use - that was dumb. A bunch of single pins and a split later, I changed balls towards the mid-end of game 1. Game 2 and 3 I took what the lanes were giving me. Which resulted in several 10 pins, but I covered them all. Will be glad to be off the end pair next week. We had a rematch (last week was position week, this week was scheduling chance) against the same team as last week and they were salty again, and we beat em again.... which was quite satisfying.

Ironically the only clean game I had was game 2. Game 1 was excellent minus a big split I got slow on. Game 2 was actually pretty close to dutch as I adjusted to the lanes a little bit late. Lot of single pins on the right lane. Game 3 I re-found my line but dumped a 10 pin. Again all in all, a solid night : )

Game 1 was all single pins and strikes, using the haywire. Game 2 I changed to the hyroad as transition began, was doing well outside of a badly tugged 6-7 split and was sitting on a double going into the 10th frame where I promptly threw a blower 7-10. Ugh. Game 3 was clean but was a bit tough with the oil breakdown. Again, a pretty solid night overall!

I wasn't feeling very good - battling a cold - ended up with an OK night.
Game 1 - Timing was off, was tugging everything. Managed to put together a clean game, definitely played the THS inside hold a bit unintentionally.
Game 2 - Worked on posting my shot, switched to the haywire when the hyroad was a little over/under. Had a good game going until a big split in the 10th.
Game 3 - Started off with another split, made a ball change back to the hyroad and zoned in. Was on 6 in a row and buried a ringing 10 pin in the 10th - and whiffed the spare when my thumb stuck. Oh, we also needed me to make it to win the game... bleh.
Left a lot of pins out there last night, but still ended up with a series right around average. I think my last 6 series or something have been between 650 and 670, pretty consistent at least lol.

Didn't pick up a ball for 2 weeks and was exhausted - it showed in my physical game. Was unbalanced here and there all night - didn't really help that single pins were being left everywhere. Had a hard time stringing together anything in games 1 and 3, mostly just covered my spares. A couple off-shots produced splits and/or washouts.
Hopefully will find time to get in for practice ahead of next week so my balance and timing are back!

I don't really feel there is that much to say here. I was either strike, single pin, or split. I wasn't getting great carry especially with the haywire, which I just resurfaced and finally appears to be dead. I messed with that a few frames in games 1 and 3, but went back and used the Hyroad the rest of the games. Tons of single pins again, lots of 7s and 10s.

Eh, another mediocre night. My haywire, which I resurfaced last week, was actually dialed in in practice (right down the 10 board, ha!) so I started there. XXXX, then the 10 pins started. Adjusting just left other single pins. I also conveniently tweaked my knee doing something in the middle of game 1 and that took a couple ibuprofen and a few frames to get under control. Missed a 10 pin in there, which I wasn't pleased about. Game 2 with the hyroad was better save for a big 4 after a XXX start. Game 3 was over/under with the hyroad and just no drive on the haywire. I didn't want to go with pearl based on the over/under with the hyroad. Just kinda grinded it out... I ordered a new ball through my PSO (DD Trick) but it wasn't in quite yet, should be for next week.

First 3 games (save for a few frames when I got it and practice) with the DDT. I can accurately say I made a wise choice... the ball was perfect for my shot. Clean set, too! I had to only move 1 board the whole night as the more-inside line I'd been throwing finally started to break down. Game 1 I was a 4 pin away in frame 4, then rattled off 16 straight strikes until a ringing 10 pin in game 2. Game 3 I finally had to hit my marks but when i did the ball drove through like a truck.
THe exciting thing about this week was that the 760 came when I missed a few shots... the ball recovered really nicely and allowed for miss area downlane (something I haven't had the last several weeks). Excited to see what the next few weeks will hold. Also, we managed to sweep and are in the second period rolloff next week - against a friendly team to top it off. Would really be something to take the first 2 of 3

Nice to see the clean set. It seems like it should be easier to stay clean when you're getting a lot of strikes, but I seem to forget how to make spares when I haven't had to shoot one in five or six frames. Good luck next week!

Woah... huge night again. Game 1 I was front 7 before I messed up my speed and left a 4-9 split in the 8th. Game 2, had to make a few adjustments left and game 3 was dialed back in... front 6 there before a 10 pin, a split in the 11th led to the 265. All the misses were on me... a couple off releases and a tug that led to the splits.
Love the motion and read this ball gives, obviously. I know the OOB carry won't last forever but I'm sure going to try to keep this up as much as possible. A small sample size, but after 6 games I'm averaging a 253.7 with this ball. Oh, also, we swept and won the second third-rolloff. We've now won the first 2 and will definitely have a target on our backs for the rest of the season : )

Back to earth... Eh, there was a bunch of stuff at play here that led to so so scores. Most of which was all me... I didn't have my timing right and was spraying it around every few shots. I didn't cover 2 10pins (pulled both). We were on the end pair which always transitions and plays differently between the 2 lanes - normally I don't mind that as it's a little extra challenge, but it didn't really help things, lol. I actually ended up using the hyroad on the left lane for a little more length in game 3 and the DDT on the right one. I still managed to get 200s for all 3, but a LOT of pins were left on the table. Oh well! Overall average stayed at 221.

Was throwing really well again last night. Game 1 I did leave a 10 and missed it... but that was really the only miss I had on the night, either strikes or spares. Game 2 and 3 were nearly identical (X/XXXX/XX) through the first 9 frames, difference is in game 2 I threw a 7-10 in the 10th. and XX9 in the third. I was one frame behind the transition... annoyingly I had the internal monologue before that frame of "do i move now or wait a frame" and obviously made the wrong call. Game 3 I had adjusted properly on both lanes : )

Redeemed myself here. Had a couple hiccups in game 1 as I was figuring out the correct line but covered everything. Game 2 I had to double in the 10th to win and did (woo)... offsetting last week's 10 pin whiff. Kept it clean and solidly in the pocket for a pretty solid consistent set! Lanes were playing way heavier than they have, thinking a combination of the warmer weather and maybe a pattern tweak. Didn't bother me any but there were a lot of grumbles from some others.

Nice solid series there!

Well, was off for a week and running on very little sleep. TIming was awful for games 1 and 2 and I tried to compensate for pulling the ball by starting facing further right... which led to worse pulling. By end of game 2 I finally had my physical game back (by straigthening up... was able to project it right and over my mark). One of my worst nights in a while for targeting and overall shot making.

Was throwing the ball a lot better, but ran into transition issues. Had a weird breakdown with a guy on the other team revving a house ball thumbless at about 20 mph (and hooking it in pretty well). Didn't do myself any favors games 2-3 with a couple of chops and single pin misses, but pretty decent besides that. Pretty pleased with the lane reading considering the odd breakdown/carrydown that happened.

Nice night where my timing and rhythm were on. I had a split in each game, 2 7-10s and a 4-6 in the third game where I made a bad adjustment. Was right in the pocket all night, missed pocket on only 3 the whole night... the 4-6 (hit mark, but bal read really early and went through nose), a heavy 6-10 and a light 2-8 on the first ball of the night.
I'll be posting up my series pics soon but I can't do it at work.

Tues Mens, 4/3 -
205, 244, 189
Not my best night, I had a really nice release going but struggled with transitions. Found a nice line end of game 1 into game 2, but that went away for game 3. The hyroad in 3 didn't work so well and ended up going back to the DDT, playing way inside worked OK.

4/10 -
257, 194, 208 - 659 series
Game 1 was great. Got fast and hit light on a couple of shots but other than that was locked in. Hit transition quickly in game 2 and didn't help my cause by whiffing 2 10pins in a row. With all the 9 counts I switched to the hyroad in game 3 for a little more length and found a decent line. Split the 10th to kill a pretty decent game, but hey.

4/17 - 184, 186, 236 - 606 series
Game 1 was a total mess. I showed up late and didn't get practice in and my timing was all over the place. Thumb was sticking a bit as well. I finally told myself to just post my shot, changed to the hyroad, and rolled off 7 in a row between 1-2... really was just undone by splits in general here. 5 on the night, plus one chop. On the positive, I covered all single pins! Barely hanging on to a 220 avg here with 1 week to go.

Final night of Tues league, 4/24:
210, 221, 245 - 676 series
https://i.imgur.com/turmIKM.png
I needed a 651 to clinch a 220 avg, and managed to close out strong for it! That was my goal going into this year and am very pleased that I made it... even with less practice time and less bowling in general. I threw really well most of hte night, ran into a couple splits but once again covered single pins.
Rolloff is next week... 2 games, we'll see how that goes.

Roll off was last night, not much good to report here, unfortunately. Had a flare up of tendonitis in my bowling wrist - spreading mulch all weekend was a bad idea - but took some ibuprofen and decided to give it a shot. Honestly, I shouldn't have bowled and am feeling it pretty good today.
We lost both games, I went 213-187. Lanes were incredibly dry and by game 2 I had trouble keeping my weakest ball right of the head pin. I was probably 1 mph slower than normal just due to the wrist, which didn't help. Lots of 4-7s from coming in high, but clean outside of some splits.

Wrist is still healing up and summer league doesn't start til next week, so I might as well post some final league stats and some ones I find interesting:
Average: 220.25 (93 games) (met goal of 220)
High game: 279 (x2)
High Series: 762
First ball avg: 9.35
Strikes: 59%
Spares: 75%
- Single Pin: 91% (met goal of 90%+)
- Multiple Pins: 48%
- Splits: 7%
Most common leaves:
- 10 Pin (137 times)
- 4 Pin (37 times)
- 7 Pin (32 times)
Interesting-to-me facts:
- I left 13 7-10 splits, converting 0. The next most common split was a 4-9, which I left 6 times (2 for 6 on converting).
Average by game: 219.52, 224.52, 216.71
- I only missed 2 single pins the whole year outside of 10s. Still need to work on those a bit.
- 2 series below 600 on the year, a 583 and a 585. Next year a goal will be something I never would have considered realistic a few years ago - no series under 600

Don't have a pic for this week, but summer league doubles started. Wrist finally healed up towards the end of last week and felt OK, almost 4 weeks between bowling though definitely showed it's rust on my strike ball, especially early:

I'll see if I can load up the pic and edit later. Spares definitely kept me alive in this one though.

Monday doubles - 265, 257, 179 good for a 701. I couldn't miss game 1 til my thumb stuck at a bad time. The 10th frame was all me making a bad throw though. Adjusted early in game 2 and was back on. Game 3 I hit transition as well as just plain forcing the ball and this was the result. I made a ball change halfway through and that didn't help much. Limped to a 701 after a huge first couple games... most mad about the missed 4 pin spare! First one in a year and a half.

Couple day late, monday doubles:
223, 236, 259 - 718 series
Again, no complaints here - lanes transitioned really early (mid game 1) with a couple of crankers as opponents - who were bowling up 10 for some reason at 20+ mph. As long as I was able to keep it in the oil and then bumping it out to the side from there on, I was fine while they both struggled mightily games 2 and 3.

On an unrelated, but interesting note I found out my alley puts out sport shots on sunday morning for practice as of this summer. Will definitely have to make my way in to get some reps on harder patterns!

3 games on mystery sport shot (girl at the desk didn't know). There were 8 lanes set up with the sport shot, I had to wait a bit and threw on a couple of random lanes until one freed up. I got there only an hour after opening, so word spreads fast.
I ended up actually getting a pair. The shot seemed like it was probably a medium length, mostly flat shot when it started, the guy in front of me was a 2 hander who burnt the middle up pretty good. I ended up standing at 18 and targeting 8 with the DDT on the left lane, and fishing around for quite a while on the right. I eventually found a similar line (stand 21, over 9), with my polished storm byte (asym pearl) by game 2. Obviously not much miss room, and I shanked a couple easy spares. Good practice to shoot them all with plastic though. I didn't keep track of pinfall, but shot a 164, 205, 171 for a 540. The first game took a solid 4-5 frames to figure out the lane play and reaction.

I found out the shot was Broadway, so shorter and the play line, breakdown etc. makes perfect sense. They'll have that up again this week, TBD if I'll be able to make it in (hopefully on a fresh lane, and knowing what I'm throwing at this time).
On to league scores:
168, 219, 227 - 614 series
https://i.imgur.com/X5jmMc0.png
Not the best night, but I was due for a correction - I'm not a 230 avg. They definitely changed up the pattern a bit, played much heavier and it was tough to get my ball into a roll. When I moved outside still struggled. Eventually moved in and slowed down and found an OK line for games 2 and 3 with regular adjustments from there. Going to be adding a bit of surface to my ball before league next week.

So I did make it in to bowl a quick few games Sunday... really just rushed through a few games. Got 159, 171, 176 for a 506 set. Not great and I chopped a TON of spares. Used old equipment and didn't really get great ball motion out of any of it. Still good practice, and a 500 on sport is a 500
On to league:

Played the lanes really well and had a nice, smooth release going. Hit some problems around end of game 1/beginning of game 2 but made a big move in and was able to properly adjust from there. Bounce back week! Team is slowly climbing the standings... we'll see how long this average can stay up.

Monday doubles -
214, 234, 175 - 623 series
Strikes: 47%
Spares: 75%
- Single Pin: 100% (10/10)
- Multiple Pin: 33% (2/6)
- Splits: 0% (0/2)
Did "OK" here. Timing was way off in game 1, got it back for most of game 2, and lost it again (forcing the shot) by game 3. Is what it is, I suppose. On the positive side, I closed all single pin spares including all six 10pins.

Ill probably just be posting sporadically on scores now unless something good happens.
7/23:
268, 234, 204 - 706 series
7/30:
246, 228, 211 - 685 series
8/6:
200, 212,225 - 637 series
Only things of note - I have been struggling with transition some (and did here the first 2 weeks). on 8/6 I didn't get there in time for any warm up and went in cold, had trouble until frame 5... switched to pearl in game 3 and it made a big difference as it was actually the highest game I had.
This tells me - time for a refresh/drill on the hyroad, and maybe invest in a new pearl at some point. Oh, and also don't be afraid to go to it when the lanes get fried to get down the lane more : )

Last week of Monday Doubles:
227, 228, 212 - 667 series. Honestly, I hit the pocket on 34 of 35 shots. Brand new pins meant a lot of single pins... I only had 1 multi pin spare on the one bad shot I threw. On another night this could have easily been a 750+. Oh well! Other team struggled and we took 7 of 9 points for a final showing of 6th place out of 42.
Doubles "Eliminator" tournament:
195, 289, 169
Weird night. First 2 games bowled, then cutoffs from there. game 1 had trouble finding a line, switched balls in frame 2 of game 2 and nearly punched out. Still never gotten a 290, but I'll certainly take this! Then we had to wait for 20 min and start single game, with no warmups. I threw out my back in the 5th frame, and just tried to finish it out. As you may guess, we didn't advance.
Quite concerned about the back, supposed to bowl tomorrow in the Classic league and not sure if I'll even be able to lift a ball.

Haven't posted for a bit, been kind of crazy with fall leagues starting up and dealing with a couple of nagging injuries - my wrist started acting up again, same thing as April. May need to get a medical opinion in it if it keeps flaring up...
Tuesday:
8/28: 187, 168, 226 - 581 series
9/4: 223, 178, 227 - 628 series
Wednesday:

8/31 (post bowl for week 1 - long story): 219, 225, 224 - 668 series
Not a whole lot to report, struggling with transition a bit in game 2 in both leagues. Happening way faster/more extreme than in the summer doubles, obviously. Lots of single pins (left ten 10pins last night, picking up 9 of them). My team on Wednesday underwent a bunch of change - no one showed up week 1 except me (fun), so I picked up a bunch of other people for week 2 and now have a full team. League surprisingly allowed a post bowl for week 1 on it, so I went on a day off over the weekend and bowled decent on burnt up conditions.

Tuesday, 9/11/18:
255, 237, 196 - 688 series
Back on track here, 29/30 clean. I chopped a 3-6-9 on the last frame of game 3. Had a nice line, moved with the lanes, game 3 I made a ball change towards the end that I really should have just moved another board or 2 left with my DDT. Wasn't pleased with both missing the clean 30 and a 700, but hey. Good night overall and we got a much-needed sweep.
Wednesday, 9/12:
207, 247, 204 - 658 series
I came in cold after missing warm up again (road work has been shutting the highway down to put out cones and close lanes and stuff right at 7pm as I'm coming in... super annoying). So game 1 was a little bit of a "get loose" session for a few frames, but found a decent line. Game 2 I was on, and even in 3 stayed ahead of transition for the most part. Happy to get 3 games over 200.
Stayed with the DDT and moved way in, which worked pretty well. I'm not super comfortable playing left of 15 but trying to make it part of my game. I struggled a little on 10 pins last night, missing 2 of them after covering like.. 20 in a row before that.

I had a tough time in both leagues this week. had issues getting into a rhythm and reading the lanes. Tuesday it seemed like my DDT suddenly and without warning died, so I hit it with some surface after bowling. It sorta-helped for Wednesday but I didn't do myself any favors by trying to overpower the lanes instead of working with what they gave me. Onto the scores...
Tuesday:
218, 211, 171 - 600 series
Scores for games 1 and 2 were better than how I threw it, game 3 slightly worse. All in all I was happy enough to come away with the 600.
Wednesday:
223, 234, 157 - 614 series
I had some issues in game 1 but had a line working great in the second half and into game 2. Instead of working with the lanes though I got jumpy in game 3, switched balls, moved in/out, etc and ended up missing my mark a lot of the frames.
I had a couple issues with 10 pins in both leagues, they'd hit gutter JUST before the pin. In all, something is kind of off with my timing and I need to figure out what.

A little better this week.
Tuesday:
201, 205, 242 - 648 series
Struggled through games 1 and 2 before finding a line (I moved back right??) and rolling off 11 in a row ending game 2 and front 7 game 3. Got fast and threw a split in the 8th, after that spared out for a decent end.
Wednesday:
199, 222, 242 - 663 series
Kind of similar, ball wasn't finishing when I was inside so I ended up moving back right later in the set and getting a good read into the pocket. Weird, especially with several high rev players, but if it's working I'll take what the lanes are giving me. We swept and are now in first place here 6 weeks in!

Tuesday:

Tuesday Mens:
225, 213, 248 - 686 series
Everything felt really good on this one. Game 1 I was clean out side of a pocket 7-10, and was actually clean the rest of the night. Most of the season I've been struggling some with my release, forcing it, this felt really natural as I was able to stay behind the ball and generate some power on my throws. Then...
Wednesday:
213, 223, 161 - 597 series
Complete opposite. I was trying too hard to find my release from Tuesday, thinking about it, and just kind of tanked. I even had a first ball gutter in game 2 (picked up the spare, had a clean game... ironically my only one on the night). Game 3 was a mess. All splits on the right lane regardless of ball or line. I was also definitely forcing the ball as I feel it in my wrist today - same problem I've had.
I need to work on my release and not forcing the shot. league isn't the place to "get it right" so I need to get in for some practice and get comfortable again.

Mediocre week all around, again.
Tuesday:
218, 227, 202 - 647 series
Well, I had 2 no-tap 300s in a row, then finally in frame 8 of game 3 left a multiple pin (2-5) leave. I was also 29 clean until the 10th frame in game 3, when the lane apparently transitioned super quick and I left a split on what seemed to be a good ball out of the hand.
I threw the ball well all night, but couldn't string anything together.
Wednesday:
238, 192, 193 - 623 series
ehhh. Game 1 was fine, game 2 was a mess - whiffed 10, a chop, a split. I switched to a pearl in frame 8 (a few frames late) and punched out. game 3 I just didn't play the lanes super well - left was hooking more than the right and it took me too long to see it, I was stubborn after my end on game 2 - and also throw a pocket 7-10 in there and it is a mediocre kind of night. However, we managed to sweep against a solid team with a couple PBA guys in it and extend our first place. Gonna have a target on our back real soon.

Tuesday:
243, 237, 184 - 664 series
Not bad, I left a ton of 7 pins. I baked and resurfaced the DDT and it's just not biting much at all. It was very night and day too - I wonder if the core separated or something funky. It's not the lanes, my other equipment is fine as is ball reaction from others who play similar lines/balls. Either it up and died or something else at play.
Wednesday:
211, 238, 201 - 650 series
Similar issues with the DDT through most of game 1 then I switched to pearl for a better look - it made a difference, although I started leaving 10s by game 3. I made an ill-advised move back to the DDT to try to smooth out the reaction and it just had no drive. It wasn't rolling out, it was just not revving up and turning over (this is when I started thinking the ball was actaully dead - less than a year though with cleaning/maintenance?). I switched back to pearl for the last frame and went XX9. Bleh.
I'll probably try resurfacing my old Haywire and compare the reactions in practice next week, but it is looking like ball-shopping time!

Interesting week.
Tuesday:
253, 259, 247 - 759 series
Great scores but had to play pretty outside with the DDT. Line never really broke down and I had great timing all night. No tap 900 (not counting the fill ball in game 1 where I moved and tried a line). Not clean because I missed a 7 pin in game 1... doh.
This night came out of nowhere, to be honest. I've been struggling.
Wednesday:
187, 228, 193 - 608 series
Struggled here after such good games on Tuesday. I had no drive into the pocket whatsoever and ended up throwing pearl most of the night. Game 3 I was severely over/under and took too long to fix it. Eh. Quick edit - I was also throwing really well, but had very very little miss room. At the breakpoint outside of 7 died out, but 9 and in was a puddle that never turned.
I ordered a Code X and a Hustle INK, should have punched up by next week. I have had nothing for the fresh/top of the bag lately and I think the DDT will be a good step down from the Code X. Excited to see how they play, every ball I have now has >200 games on it.

Tuesday:
193, 205, 192 - 590 series
Well, I got my 2 new balls (code x and hustle ink) and brought them to league without throwing a shot. I really liked how they both rolled, I simply didn't carry well. Tried out a couple different lines, I think the Hustle is going to be excellent for later sets/easy benchmark reaction. The Code X was revving up really nicely, but will take a little tweaking on the shot/breakpoint to get dialed in. I expect next week to be fine.
I missed 4 10 pins tonight, that's really what hurt my scores. I would have been 633 picking them up. I was just grabbing at the bottom of the swing on them for some reason and pulling the shot.

Tuesday:
232, 181, 215 - 628 series
Starting to feel a lot more comfortable with the new balls. The Code X isn't a hook monster, but has nice continuous motion and drives really well. Game 1 I was lined up and outside of a badly pulled shot for a split, was on my target. game 2 I hit some transition and also made a couple poor adjustments that led to a lot of single pins. Switched to the INK towards the end of the game. third game was going really well, til I split in the 10th... lol. All in all a couple mental mistakes and stuff, that's been cropping up a little bit this year but I think I'm headed in the right direction.
Wednesday:
223, 225, 225 - 673 series
Well, pretty consistent, haha. Code X for all but 6 frames in between games 2 and 3. Had a pretty nice line and read transition well - only one major blip on the night when I got it way wide and washed out in game 1. Really pleased with how this one came about, now to carry it over to next week.

I started "directing" my spare ball at 10 pins which is a really bad idea. Problems continued into game 3. The biggest issue is I kept leaving them, lol. I think I missed something like 5 of 9 and this was my lowest set in a couple of years.
Wednesday Classic:
207, 226, 299 - 732 series
.
Game 1 I was feeling pretty good and had a decent line but missed a single 10 pin (I adjusted my starting and aiming spot on them after my struggles the last couple weeks, was better but just barely dumped a couple maybe an inch before the pin). Game 2 I started getting locked in, minus one other 10 miss. I ended with the last 4 in game 2, and started front 11 in game 3. Got away with a little bit of a tug in the 10th, 11th was flush and the final shot looked and felt really good out of my hand.... rung a 10.
Never had a 299, so I get to add that to the list now, haha. Obviously would have liked a 300 - sanctioned one will come - but overall happy with this night ESPECIALLY after the mess that was Tuesday. The team's still in first with 4 weeks to go in the half.

Nice. Always great to have a go to ball that you have confidence in. Seems everyone is going to the Storm Physix now. See so many of those in my Tuesday and Thursday league now.

Another kind of weird week:
Tuesday:
196, 204, 178 - 578 series
Was a mess - inconsistent on release, mental mistakes on spares, and just didn't string anything together. Not a whole lot more to say than that. I couldn't find a look with any of my balls. The physical stuff may have all been related to doing arm workouts earlier in the day, which I typically try to avoid on bowling days. Lesson learned, on to next week.
Wednesday:
289, 244, 164 - 697 series
Well on Wednesday last week I ended on a 299, this one I started front 10 and left a stone 8 in the 11th. Argh. I was still locked in through game 2, and then the wheels completely fell off in game 3. I saw transition that may not have been there, made a ball change, and chopped 2 spares and missed a 10 pin. Went from a possible 800 all the way into frame 3, to blowing a 700 on an open 9th and 10th frames.
If it's possible to leave feeling disappointed after a 289, I met that criteria. I really need to get out of my head (because, obviously when I am out of it and trusting my game, I'm doing some really good things). On the plus side, 4 more weeks and still in first place here.

Tuesday:
236, 203, 193 - 632 series
Shot better than the scores indicate. Had a couple runs interrupted by pocket 7-10s. Really only missed mark on one ball all night, left a 6-7 on that one. Finding it a little bit challenging to string anything together here lately, I'm sure that'll change.
Wednesday:
237, 236, 236 - 709 series
Well, I was certainly consistent! Overall, nice games with a few single pins mixed in here and there. One open on the night at the beginning of game 3 when I hit transition and found the outside line was no longer playable (3-6-9-10 leave, left the 9). Good stuff here. Comfortable, consistent with a nice release going, and outside of that one throw read lane transition really well. Even better - extended the lead with now 3 weeks to go in the half : )

Thanks all! It was a bit of an adventure early on but I seem to be turning the corner... feeling comfortable and stringing shots again.
Tuesday:
243, 266, 190 - 699 series
I went in with a plan to use the INK out of the gate, as 1. I've struggled in this league a bit, and 2. I hadn't felt super comfortable with it. I had knocked the polish off to a 4K surface and wow, what a difference. Predictable, continuous and hit like a truck. Reminded me of a smoother hyroad. Got outside on one shot for a washout, I think I had one other 9/ and then the rest of the game was strikes. Ended with a 5 bagger and started game 2 with the front 9, then hit transition HARD in frame 10 and left a 5-7 split. Realistically I had noticed it a frame earlier but was still getting the drive and carry and didn't really want to adjust off it given where I was at in the game. however, that all bit me in game 3 as I was behind transition by that point and just tried to make adjustments. I was still clean and on pace for a 220ish game until I left a big 4 in the 10th after 2 strikes. Oops.
Wednesday:
192, 236, 220 - 648 series
Didn't really like how any ball was reacting in practice, started Code X for the first couple frames, switched to the INK after the 3rd. Chopped and missed a 10 pin back to back in frames 2-3. Lot of 10 pins in game 1 (for both teams) but settled in towards the end. Games 2 and 3 were both INK and really used that strong-off-the-spot-yet-smooth motion to my advantage. Did pretty well considering the lanes were playing pretty tough. We went against a high average team and ended up sweeping - which clinched first place for us for the half. This is "the" big money league and it being our first time in the league, we were all pretty pumped up!

Weds Classic:

Not all that much to report here, to be honest. I simply didn't match up that well with the lanes either night. Tuesday I don't think I missed on a ball all night but left 12 10 pins. I'd have a few strikes, then get 2 or 3 tens. Moving in, flat 10. Change ball, ring a 10. Wednesday was much of the same, except I had more variety of pins, and I couldn't string anything. I was a little bit more off on my shot which showed on the scores. Rough week, but it happens.

Really struggled last night. Normally I bowl well when I have a cold, that was not the case here.
194, 187, 195 - 576 series
I only was off on a couple shots. Lots of back row pins and a few 4s, really. Adjustments didn't help a ton, but mainly I couldn't string anything. This tells me the pair was playing a little bit different and I just couldn't catch up to it. Will try to get in for some practice tomorrow to at least work on my physical game/timing a bit, which has been off for quite a while now.

Wednesday Classic:
221, 225, 186 - 632 series
Should have been higher - left some pins out there with a couple of whiffs, chops, and splits. Had a pretty good line in games 1 and 2, moved with transition, but lanes were totally burnt by game 3. After starting strike open/open, I switched to the hustle INK and played inside. Was much more consistent there save for back-to-back stone 9s on one lane (there were a ton of 9s left on that lane, think there was a pin spotting issue).

Tuesday:
258, 246, 209 - 713 series
This was a good night. My timing was pretty on for all 3 games and outside of a greek church in game 3, was clean, stringing strikes and all that good stuff. Just felt pretty loose and relaxed. Code X first 2, switched to the INK after the split in the 2nd frame of game 3.
Wednesday:
181, 210. 213 - 604 series
Well, I got in late and didn't really have enough time to read the lane before scoring started (bascially got a chance to throw one warm up ball and that was it). Started a little rough and my timing was not great for most of game 1. I started posting shots and turned it around at the end. Game 2 was clean, just a lot of single pins. game 3 was actually going really well until I threw a big split in the 10th. Breakdown was weird, it was the end pair... just kind of a grind it out kind of night.

Tuesday Mens:
243, 259, 185 - 687 series
Started with the wrong ball for a few frames in game 1, switched to the code X and strung a bunch together. Same thing in game 2 - front 7 before I started hitting a little transition on the left lane. Game 3 was all single pins and I couldn't find a good line, or get a double. Need to figure that out a little bit more... moving in hasn't worked the last 2 weeks. May try pulling out my old pearl (which needs replacement, has a balance hole) next time I run into it.
Wednesday Classic:
204, 210, 184 - 598 series
I actually bowled better than the scores indicate. Ended game 1 with a pocket 7-10 to blow a good game. Game 2 featured a couple of really poorly timed splits in between strings. Game 3 was kind of similar to Tuesday.... lots of single pins and me fishing around for a line and battling over/under. Our whole team had issues in the third game. This set should have been an easy 650+ so kind of disappointed.

Nothing very interesting to report this week:
Tuesday:
184, 202, 226 - 612 series
Game 1 featured 2 strikes, 8 single pin counts (including 6 10 pins) and a pocket 7-10. Just carry issues, once again adjustments weren't helping much. Changed balls for game 2, slightly better but still a little tough to string. Game 3 was clean and felt good to end on a positive note. This was another night that I was throwing the ball really well, no "misses", and just didn't have much go my way. On the plus side, I was 13 for 13 in single pins, ha.
Wednesday:
225, 208, 210 - 643
Should have been higher. Chopped a couple spares in bad spots (6-10, 2-4-5 both on doubles). I had a few issues with transition/breakdown but for the most part adapted OK.
On a slightly related note, I've found that when transition hits the code X becomes almost unusable very quickly. The reaction gets really lazy downlane and it hits like a pillow. Once the lanes fully transition and get more burnt, I can swing it really effectively but that middle time is a real problem. I've been combating it with the hustle ink, but that tends to be a bit over/under as well. Any suggestions?

Forgot to add last week, which actually kind of works in my rundown.
Tues (1/29):
214, 211, 256 - 681 series
Wed (1/30):
192, 211, 212 - 615 series
On Tuesday I mostly did fine but left 4 splits between games 1 and 2. Enough to derail high scores, but I felt pretty solid otherwise. Wednesday I was a single pin machine, think I left 14 of them.
Sometime during the weekend I looked at video of myself from last year/summer and compared it to video I shot earlier this season. I've been struggling with release/revs all season in both leagues. I realized that I'm flattening my wrist out at the top o the backswing this year which is causing me to come around the side of the ball all the way through release, vs last year when I was cocking my wrist and coming through the ball. ding ding ding.
Tues (2/5):
258, 242, 223 - 723 series
Weds (2/6):
256, 216, 236 - 708 series
Cliff notes are I started with the INK both sets here as it was reading the oil really well. when I started to hit transition and couldn't carry the corner any more, I switched to the code X. Tuesday features carry down, while Wednesday burns up the lane/track. I was a little more outside/down & in game 3 tuesday and would have been fine if I didn't end the night with a dumped 10 pin... Wednesday I still had 10 pin issues (picked them all up, would have been a 750 set) but man, my release is so much better. I found what I was searching for.
Edit: Wednesday was a no-tap 900. Not a leave other than single pins.

I kind of struggled with my timing most of the night, led to a few bad shots. The lanes were almost constantly changing as well, was tough to get into a rhythm. Ended up with a respectable set after struggling in game 1, and also ended up pretty far inside by the end of the night.

I had a pretty interesting week, especially Tuesday.
278, 256, 254 - 788 series
https://i.imgur.com/PAbHdy6.png
Game 1 - that was a stone 9 pin
Game 2 - pocket 7/10
Game 3 - What looked like a great hit left the 7 pin, then in the 10th when I needed the strike, left a flat 10 (not the best shot).
Obviously was completely locked in all night. All 3 games with the Hustle INK. The only 2 shots I really want back are the 7-10 in game 2 - big score difference there of course - and the 10th frame shot of game 3. This was kind of bittersweet, new high and to me (especially looking at the series pic) reinforces just how difficult an 800 is.
Wednesday:
204, 279, 224 - 707 series
Well, It was snowing/icing but league was still on. I missed practice because i got stuck behind a plow doing 20mph for 8 miles before I reached the highway. I went with the INK again but the line/shot wasn't there. In general, Wednesdays seem to be heavier/have a different pattern than tues. Still, game 1 was good until I split in the 10th. I switched to the Code X, and bookended 10 pins with a 10-bagger in between. Game 3 the line burnt up, I moved in and basically just was happy to get to the pocket. Kept it clean.
Off to vacation next week (leaving tonight, in fact), and hopefully won't break this little hot streak going now!

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately, it was back to earth this week:
Tuesday:
192, 209, 182 - 583 series
Basically a mess. Missing easy spares, battling over/under, etc. Taking a week off seemed to undo the good timing and delivery I had been putting together. To add insult to injury, on the last game I chopped a 2-8 spare in the 10th (left the 8) to lose total pins by 7. I hadn't missed a 2-8 in years! Was not pleased.
Wednesday:
195, 234, 214 - 633 series
This one was a little better, but still nothing to write home about. Had a few issues with 10 pins, gave away a few pins there. On the plus side we swept. My wrist was sore after as were my fingers - a surefire sign I was forcing my release.

Did OK this week.
Tuesday:
225, 212, 201 - 638
Had a good line with the hustle but by game 2 it was toast. Someone coming off injury on the other team using a house ball and another guy right on my line with urethane saw to that. Balled up, had a line for a few frames, then the lanes transitioned. So it was just a matter of trying to adjust and find something that would carry from there. Not upset with the scores, and also was throwing really well.
Wednesday:
245, 203, 212 - 660 series
Not bad, struggled a little later on in the set with lanes breaking down at different rates but again had 3 over 200. Overall a solid, but unspectacular week.

Tuesday:
212, 214, 134 - 560 series
I had a decent line, timing, etc games 1 and 2. Made an early ball change after back to back splits in game 1, but other than that fine. Game 2 was clean. Then came game 3, which was a complete disaster! I hit a combination of transition, a poor adjustment, and timing issues in my swing causing me to pull several shots... with the lanes transitioned there was no hold and most were splits. In the 9th frame I finally fixed my timing but by that point it was too late to save the game. Lowest game in 5 years (since becoming "serious" about bowling). Oh well, that'll happen.
Wednesday:
249, 235, 205 - 689 series
Way better. Timing and release were smooth and I had that nice wrist snap the whole night. Started and stayed with the INK all 3 games. Line really died out in the 8th-9th frames of game 3 but at that point I messed with my speed a little to close out the 10th. Feel a lot better about my game in general after Weds, vs. the Tuesday debacle.

This was another ehhh week
Tuesday:
224, 214, 143 - 581 series
once again couldn't get anything to fall in game 3. I missed a couple 10s in there which didn't do me any favors. The lane was chewed up by urethane and I just didn't really have anything to combat it - I really need a top-of-bag ball, and a pearl.
Wednesday:
204, 246, 191 - 641 series
I actually only had 1 open the entire series, which should tell how carry was. I didn't get a strike until frame 8 in game 1, but kept it clean to grind out a 200. Game 2 I had a pretty good line - front 4, few spares, back 4. Started game 3 pretty well too, but then the line just died. Inside was still flooded, outside was burnt up. I really again found myself wishing I had a bigger ball I could move inside with (code X wasn't finishing well inside).

Did damn near the same thing Tuesday. Frankly, I was so pissed I couldn't even post the scores. 214/234/143. Our lane broke down, and they moved us to another pair that had 3 games on them, and also widely known as the worst pair in the house. Just could not find anything to work.

Aslan - no kidding. The only bright side is that I could tell exactly what was happening both weeks.
Tim - Moving is always a hassle. Between getting your stuff to the other lanes, having a longer break and having to adapt to different conditions... especially if you don't get a practice throw!
Tuesday:
224, 193, 185 - 601 series
Really, didn't throw the ball poorly here. I had issues with carry and over/under, and had a split in each game - all on what seemed to be good shots. Just couldn't really get much together or get any friendly action. Lanes were playing quite different from each other. On an interesting note, before league the oil machine stripped one of the lanes without applying oil. It was kind of interesting to see what at first a reactive ball did with zero oil (left gutter after 20 feet), and even plastic hooking into the left gutter at 40 feet! We ended up getting that fixed before play started, obviously.
Wednesday:
195, 236, 267 - 698 series
Was a little shaky game 1 on the left lane, but once I adapted my shot a bit between the 2 I was locked in. Game 2 was front 6, then a 10 pin (miss) as I was anticipating transition that wasn't there yet. game 3 I started front 8 before leaving a flat 10 (also missed). All 3 games with the Code X, which has been giving me a nice line in this league recently. Aside from those 2 missed 10s, nice night overall. Left quite a few pins out there though, make those and also a chop I had in game 1 frame 1, that set's in the 730s. Spares matter!

Tuesday:
194, 222, 189 - 605 series
Same old. Clean game 1, couldn't string or even double anything. just a bunch of spares with a few strikes sprinkled in. Game 2 was much better, save for 2 splits. Game 3 was actually fine too, also 2 splits and just a couple less strikes. I've been struggling here to find a line that will leave me miss room - in general just not matching up that well.
Wednesday:
264, 223, 169 - 656 series
Well, started off great, had a spare in the 5th and a washout in the 11th trying a different line. Everything was pretty good up until game 3, I moved inside and started leaving 10 pins. Move back (instead of switching balls, naturally) and still couldn't get anything going. Again, matched up poorly and in hindsight should have changed balls after my move in didn't work. So obvious looking back lol.

Better this week.
Tuesday:
234, 187, 256 - 677 series
I added some surface to the Code X which made a big difference game 1 here. It stopped finishing in game 2, so I balled down to the hustle ink and picked it right back up for game 3. Pretty good all around except for a couple frames/splits there in game 2 when I hit the transition. This was the first week since that 788 I actually hit average in this league, so hopefully it stays that way for the final couple weeks!
Wednesday:
219, 256, 255 - 730 series
Started front 5 with the ink before it got over/under on me. Still had it clean going into frame 10, where I left a 2-4-5 and only picked up the 2-5. D'oh. Basically game 1 should have been 230+ easy. Game 2 I balled UP to the code and went off from there. Front 7 before a really nice looking shot left a 9 pin. Felt some transition coming on and tried a more inside line in the 10th, which didn't work out. Picked up my speed just a hair in game 3 and was right back at it - 2 10 pins through first 11 with a 7 count in the fill.
Best news - swept both leagues this week.

Tuesday:
259, 193, 188 - 640 series
Had a great line to start with the Code X. Games 2 and 3 were better than the scores indicate, it was a lot of strike-strike-split/chop going on. I actually had only 1 less strike than I did in my 730 set last week. Basically, just poor timing on when I had my opens. Kind of a bummer after such a big game 1, but it happens.
Wednesday:
172, 224, 215 - 611 series
Nothing much good happened here. Game 1 I couldn't get ANY consistent line with either ball, and was off on my spares. Game 2 was better as the track started coming into play, I still struggled with my spare game though. I left 10 10pins on the night and only converted 6. Had a little bit of the yips with them this whole season, to be honest... my conversion % is about 10 points lower than last year. This was the last week for this league, ended it on a good note with a 10 pin pickup and a strike on the fill at least!
Overall (one week left in the tuesday league, but it's going to be accurate) this was a little bit of a down year for me both in terms of strike % and single pin spares. As such, my average across both leagues averaged out to 5 pins lower than last year and 9 from over the summer. A lot of that was due to a nagging wrist injury that definitely had more long-term release impacts that I have to work out. I'm going to try to use the summer to practice some and clear some of the bad habits that crept in.

Nice to finish on a higher note, and pushed the average back over 215. I left ten 10s again, but I picked up 9 of them this time. Most of the 10s were in the first game and a half before a ball change that worked out well. Clean aside from a missed 10 (frame 1, game 1) and a 7-10 split in game 3 (moved in off a late 9 trip, ball hit light - moved back).

Tuesday:
It didn't count for season points, but we did have a season ending tournament that supposedly did count with USBC scores, so I guess it counts for something:
202, 229, 257 - 688 series
Got my clean series this year, only took til the very last chance. I missed warmups entirely and just began with the hustle. It wasn't a great choice, but I kept it clean... and only had 1 double. For games 2 and 3 I used the code X which was giving me a much better look into the pocket (and carry to boot). I did end game 3 with a stone 8 pin in the 11th. Nice game to end the season but that stone 8 was pretty representative of how it's gone this year in general a little bit, lol.

First night of summer league:
197, 224, 201 - 622 series
Really wasn't throwing well/consistently most of the night. The shot was there, I just didn't feel comfortable on my release... my track was off a little too (tracking over thumb in some cases) so I was definitely doing SOMETHING wrong. Still, outside of a couple 7-10 splits and a chopped 3-6 I generally did OK. Ill try to get in for some practice before the next couple weeks.

Meh
172, 267, 186 - 625 series
I was locked in during practice, but when the game started I got very good at leaving all the back row pins. After fiddling around with some adjustments for a bit (without improvement) I changed balls and piled strikes up with the Code X in game 2. That line was gone by game 3 and it was just a struggle finding the right side of the head pin.
I did myself no favors by missing 4 easy spares. 3 ten pins, and chopped a 6 off the 6-10. I really need practice at corner pins but realistically have no time to do so... I can get in for league and that's about it currently.

Missed a couple weeks:
6/10 -
182, 204, 193 - 579 series
End pair, super humid and really tough to keep the ball to the right of the head pin. Everything I threw ended up rolling out, and it was tough to find consistent carry. Got a bunch of splits here to sink anything that I got going, and also missed way to many 10 pins.
6/17 -
185, 205, 215
So they are putting in new lanes AND new pins throughout the summer and this was my first crack at them. I didn't mind how they rolled at all. But, I left EIGHTEEN single pins - a new personal record! 12 of them were 10 pins, I picked up 11. My only open on the night was game 1, frame 1 where I wiggled the 10 but just barely missed inside. It was really tough for me to find the right angle into the pocket, obviously. I pulled out the DDT for game 3 and definitely had better reaction. Definitely felt like I needed something that would have turned more aggressively off the pattern for games 1 and 2, though. I'm in the market.

Dang...I don't know if I've ever left 18 over three games. At least 11/12 was pretty darn good!

It was brutal. close angles, flat 10. Move in, flat 10. Move out a bit, 4 or a 9 (nope!). Pretty much didn't matter which ball I was throwing, my angle through the pocket wasn't good. It happens, sometimes I just don't match up and I don't have nearly enough equipment right now to do so. I'm pretty happy I was making my 10s, if I had the issues I had been having recently I'd have been lucky to get 550.

Week 2 of new lanes/pins went much better.
231, 222, 270 - 723 series
Was really a good night besides a couple of splits (missed outside and ball went through the nose) and a washout in games 1&2. Game 3 I read the transition well and stopped swinging out as much, which worked like a charm! Ended on 9 in a row. Last week I felt like I had my "feel" back, and last night felt the same way. Hopefully, I can keep that up.

Thanks... that one felt really good to finally put together!
7/1:
236, 158, 247 - 641 series
Kind of a weird/inconsistent series that ended up just about average. Was on point game 1, a missed spare away from another 247. Just 3 single pins, rest were X. Game 2... I had 4 splits, including 3 pocket 7-10s. Moving didn't help, ball change didn't help. I basically hit transition and flailed big time. However, game 3 I moved a little left, squared up a bit and moved the ball up in my stance... and that was the ticket. Same as game 1, except I made my 3 single pins (2 7s and a 10)
With a few hiccups, my game feels like it's coming together a bit consistently.

244, 257, 255 - 756 series
29/36 strikes on the night, 2 opens... a 7-10 in game 1 and a missed 10 pin in game 2. The code X has been pretty lights out on these new lanes, and squaring up/swinging less has been the adjustment to make as the transition happens and lanes break down. I missed on one shot (which was a bucket) over 3 games... felt really good, etc. No complaints!

7/15: 226, 202, 196 - 624 series
Had a few splits and missed a couple spares. There was something off with my timing/release and truthfully was lucky to get as high as I did, especially with some pretty serious breakdown by game 3. Just grinded it out.
7/22: 210, 246, 224 - 680 series
Much better here. Made my spares, adjusted to the lanes well and felt a lot better with my throws. Due to a scheduling issue we ended up bowling the same team both weeks, and completely evened out for points.

Nothing crazy to report, but we have gone 23-4 over the last couple weeks to enter the last night next week in first place.
7/29:
214, 177, 257 - 648 series
8/5 (match 1):
247, 190, 190 - 627 series
8/5 (match 2):
225, 225, 188 - 638 series
on 7/29 I started out OK, game 2 I hit some nasty transition and threw a few splits in a row - adjusting after each one- before finding the right one. Game 3 was locked in!
Last night we had a doubleheader... something to do with dues, and a shortened summer season by a week. I'm still surprised it was voted in. Lanes seemed tough for everyone, but we did (barely) enough to pull out the wins. I wasn't throwing super well, and boy were the lanes burnt up by the end of game 6. Went from one side o the house to the other between sets and it wasn't that bad. Basically I had a lot of single pins last night in general, luckily enough was picking them up well.

Was a little iffy on 10 pins again last night, will need to try to get in for some practice, sometime. Time is at a premium right now though so may have to just make do with my physical game for awhile.

I haven't updated in a awhile, but truthfully there's nothing much to report of significance. Fall leagues have started up, my bowling has been lower-mid 600s every week. The DareDevil Trick has had some use out of the bag a few times as my other balls just haven't been giving me a great look. Lots of 10 pins and not much miss room for me early on.

Last few weeks:
Tuesday 9/10:
213, 224, 183 - 620 series
I don't really remember this one too much, but looking at the stats there were an awful lot of single pins. 9/10 on 10s. The biggest thing of note that I took away from this was learning our house shot is now 4 feet longer than it used to be, it had been playing longer but knowing the length actually helped me attack it quite a bit early on the next couple sessions.
Wednesday 9/11:
215, 226, 258 - 699 series
Mentioned this elsewhere but my roll has been heavy/end over end a little bit more as my release has evolved a bit. This really had left me searching for angle in a lot of cases, I started varying it up a little bit for more axis tilt (which also increased the revs off my hand) and generated everything I needed it to.
Wednesday 9/18 (out of town for Tues this week):
255, 203, 208 - 666 series
Same premise here. Started with Code X and had a nice line. Lanes broke down big time in game 2, had to move way in and switch to the DDT in game 3 (but once I found a line it was working well). A bit of tweener hell getting there though, as I hit the chewed up part from a couple higher rev guys on the other team - had to make a pretty big jump, an initial 3-2 move left a big split.

Good on paper, but shot myself in the foot by missing 4 ten pins between games 2 and 3. only opens on the night. I was pulling them just a bit, enough to miss barely miss the pin inside.
Wednesday 9/25:
213, 202, 227 - 642 series
Much better spare shooting here (6/6 on tens) but found it tough to string anything together. Example game 3, XX9/XX9/XX9/X9/. One split in game 2 away from a clean 30.

Game 1 felt better than the score, and I was on my line pretty well except for a 4-9 split that I was slow on. Games 2 and 3 I have no complaints, read the transition and made proper adjustments.
Wednesday 10/2:
203, 228, 221 - 652 series
Started out front 4 (not all good balls) and went downhill from there. Capped game 1 off by missing a 10 pin in the 10th. Games 2 and 3 again, were pretty good and no complaints. Transition tends to be pretty abrupt and severe in this league - lot of high rev, consistent bowlers, so I was pretty happy to put together a solid set.

Tuesday:
214, 265, 159 - 638 series
I started off OK, lanes were playing really tight. After a bunch of single pins I switched to the DDT and ended on a 4 bagger. Had a great game 2 (4 pin in frame 3) up until the 11th when I tugged it for a 4-6-7 split. That proved to be a problem for the next few frames... I lost my timing somehow, and had 2 more 4-6-7 splits through the first 3 frames in game 3. By the time I figured that part out the lanes had transitioned on me and I never really caught up. Lousy end to what was shaping up as a great set.
225, 201, 202 - 628 series
Eh, I bowled way better than the scores show. I had 3 multi-pin leaves the whole night, 10 10pins (covered 9 of them) and a 7 pin. Just hard to string, yet again. I'd get a line and 3 frames later it was blown up and I needed to adjust, etc. I ended game 3 with one of the multi pins leaves, a nice 8-10 split in the 10th.

Just Wednesday this week:
10/16:
194, 259, 236 - 689 series
Lanes were super tight game 1, light hits carried but flush hits left ringing 10s. I left a few, generally my AOE was probably a hair off. Game 2 I started opening up the lanes a little and swinging it further out, started front 7 before a - wait for it - ringing 10 in the 8th. Game 3 hit major transition early on, had a couple splits and a 57 through 4 but then balled up to the Code X and continued with the swinging. Ended up on a big string before a 9 count in the fill. All in all, pretty happy with the night and how I read the lanes, couple blips on the 10 pin covers and opportunity not to get as behind at the start of game 3.

Tuesday:
213, 207, 150 - 570 series
All three games really could have been much better. I was in the pocket consistently, I really just didn't match up well (and currently don't really have a good variety of balls to change that situation). Just a lot of single pins, some of which missed, and in game 3 a couple splits in addition. I had one strike game 3, in frame 10. 8 9 counts and the 2 splits.
Wednesday:
168, 223, 258 - 649 series
Came to bowl late so no practice, and much of the same didn't match up well in game 1. Lanes were playing very slick and I couldn't get any drive through the pocket (one need: top of bag ball). Missed a couple easy spares early on as I was still getting warmed up/lined up - although no real excuse for missing an 8 pin! Game 2 the transition started and it helped our team and hurt the other. Game 3 I was locked in with just a couple 10s.
Heading to Vegas next week so no bowling. If I come back with any money I'll be investing it in a couple new balls.

Good luck in Vegas.
Don't follow the example of our neighbor when I was a kid. She went on a cross country road trip with her daughter's family. they spent two days in Vegas on the way home. She was up $1500 after the first day, and this was in 1969, and lost every penny of it the next.

I'm going mostly to golf (although looking at the forecast may have been better off staying in CT for that). I suppose for your neighbor, at least it was house money, and got a good story out of it. Knowing when to walk can be tough, Vegas wasn't built on the money of winners.
Still need to make it out for Nationals some time.

Back from Vegas (it was cold!) and a few dollars lighter as expected, lol. back to bowling this week as well:
Tuesday:
226, 216, 214 - 656 series
Story of the night was 10 pins. Missed my target on one ball the whole night. Unfortunately, I had a few issues picking them up. I once again just didn't really have anything to match up quite right, still ended up with a decent series but knowing how well I was throwing it seems like a bit of a letdown (ok I'll stop complaining about a 650+ lol). We did sweep which got us out of last place on position night, woo!
Wednesday:
201, 236, 225 - 662 series
Bunch of 10s again, tonight I picked them up though. Made a pretty big tweak in my approach at them and so far so good. My balance and shots weren't nearly as good here as Tuesday, but the series was higher... go figure. Still had issues getting the right reaction in game 1, so I'll need to pick up some equipment soon.

Tuesday:
224, 236, 166 - 626 series
Games 1 and 2 were good. Found a line that was working and only got into trouble if I tugged. Game 3 I mysteriously lost my timing. Started popping up at the line, wasn't squared to target, etc. Missed a couple spares (chop, whiff, split) to end a promising night.
Wednesday:
170, 226, 221 - 617 series
My issues from Tuesday continued into Weds. Luckily, I have a teammate who was able to tell what was going on and let me know about the squaring to target (which was throwing my balance off at the line too) at the end of game 1 and I quickly fixed that. Games 2 and 3 were much better. Lost my line towards the end of 3 but kept it clean for a nice 221.
Positive side here is the teams both did well in general so we were able to pick up some points.

Drilled up a couple new balls this week, a halo and a halo pearl. The last several weeks have shown that I need something top of bag and I'm comfortable enough with an inside line to use a heavy oil ball early on. The pearl should compliment it really well as the transition happens, I still have the hustle INK behind that if I get O/U. I also adjusted my span a hair larger based on updated measurements.
Tuesday:
238, 201, 217 - 656 series
Started with the Halo, first shot with it was in warmups. I was on the end pair (which always play differently from each other) and it was fun learning the limits of the ball, how it behaved, etc. I will say a beautiful line and reaction, exactly what I was looking for. Left a few 10 pins early on but finished with 6 in a row after adapting to the different lane play. Game 2 I ran into transition and had a chop/whiff before switching to the pearl, which gave me a pretty good line though game 3. All in all they felt good and did what I got them for!
Wednesday:
223, 180, 216 - 619 series
With the way I was bowling I was lucky to get this high. I was inconsistent at release and my balance/timing was off. Definitely a "me" problem. I did run into transition again in game 2, but didn't help my cause with a 4-9 early in the game then a pocket 7-10 before I made my ball change. I wasn't quite lined up with the pearl in game 3 and left some 10s (should have been more inside as my fill frame indicated). One of my teammates got a new ball as well and threw a 300 with it in game 2. Excited about where these will take the game over the next few months!

Decent, had a lot of 10 pins though, all but 1 were ringing. Whiffed 1. Switched up in game 2 for a different angle through and started driving a lot better. Game 3 was clean, was dutch 200 until the 9th where I ended with 4 in a row after an adjustment on my "bad" lane (all 9/ on it prior).
Wednesday 11/27:
199, 201, 193 - 593 series
Just kinda lousy. Really tight lanes and by the end was trying to do too much and guide the ball. Got paid for with several splits and not a lot of back to back strikes. Just one of those nights. The other team struggled even worse, and no one on the pair was doing well.
Tuesday 12/3:
246, 191, 214 - 651 series
This really should have been a lot higher. I was throwing it really well in game 1, hit some transition in game 2 including a pocket 7-10 but game 3 started front 5 before a whiff and a chop kinda blew that one down a few notches. Still another 650, I'll take it.

After a couple of weeks off, came back pain free (for now):
Tuesday:
214, 247, 192 - 653 series
Started off well, same issues as I've been having namely couldn't string much game 1 but kept clean. Started front 5 in game 2 with the pearl before leaving a few single pins. Still clean. Game 3 then started with a big split and I had to make some major moves to keep the pocket. I chopped a 4-7 later on to finish with a lower game.
Wednesday:
207, 206, 208 - 621 series
Eh. Never really found a rhythm here. Scores were consistent, albeit a bit low. Moved way in towards the end of game 2 and somehow rolled off 8 strikes in a row (4 to end game 2, front 4 in game 3) then even that went away and I basically tried to spare out. Really should have balled down instead of continuing to move in at that point.

Oof. Good and bad this week.
Tues:
256, 234, 162 - 652 series
I did a few drills at home over the weekend and it helped me stay behind/inside the ball at release. Which was great! Halo had a perfect look in games 1 and most of 2, stayed ahead of the first transition. In frame 8 of game 2 I left a 4-9 and followed it up (after a 1 board move) with a pocket 7-10, switched to the pearl. That was a sign of things to come. Game 3 was a mess, several strikes but 4! splits. Eventually went to an older ball but that didn't really help a whole lot. Ended with a 4-7-10 in the 10th.
Weds:
237, 199, 179 - 615 series
Similar. halo had a good look game 1 and most of 2. When the lanes went, they went. In game 2 I was sitting at 163 in the 7th frame on a double strike count, and ended up ending the game split/split/whiffed spare after a ball change for 3 opens in a row. Switched to the pearl for game 3 and promptly started leaving 10 pins. That wasn't matching up, so I went to the dare devil trick for a smoother look and that was even worse. Finally moved way in, went back to the halo and salvaged the game somewhat with a 4 bagger.
Lesson... if a ball is working keep it while moving in, stop changing balls. Need to get better at this.

Not a good week.
Tuesday:
204, 189, 209 - 597 series
Lanes played tight and never really changed. I was pretty much striking or splitting... had more splits than single pins. My look was good when I was dead on but really had to be on top of my physical game. Simply didn't match up that well. I think I had either 6 or 7 splits on the night, including some really solid-looking ones. I didn't help my case game 3 with a foul that ended up being a 21 pin swing, haven't done that in years, foot just seemed to jump forward mid slide and barely scraped the line.
Wednesday:
203, 223, 169 - 595 series
Grinded out a 203 which featured another couple back to back splits, was better in game 2 and left a bunch on the table for game 3. Only thing that ended up working in game 3 was balling up and throwing hard, down and in. My undoing tonight was chops... had 3 or 4 easily makeable spares out there, but good news 100% single pins both nights.
I was looking at my stats a bit and there's really nothing that stands out why this year has been a struggle.. no 700s or high games, etc. My strike % is consistent from last year, 56% (although that was down a bit from the year prior due to my lingering wrist issues). If anything my single pin spares are a bit higher this year, particularly recently as I've gotten my right side under control. Splits may be slightly up, but not terribly so at this point. I think I just have to chalk it up to not being able to string shots and getting opens or splits at bad times?

Oddly I had 4 chops the other night too. Chopped the 3-9, the 2-4 (yeah figure that one out for a lefty), the 5-8, the 4-7, and straight up missed another 2-4. That's 5 easy spares I should have never missed. Had a 559. Could have easily been a 600.

Finally put together a solid week.
Tuesday:
277, 183, 244 - 704 series
Practiced staying behind the ball through release a bit over the weekend (at home, just swinging the ball back and forth) which has really seemed to make a difference. Dead on with the Halo all game 1, left a 7 pin in the 6th when I got a little fast. 2-8 in the fill as I tried a bit more inside line. Game 2 I lost my timing for a few frames and ended up also missing a couple of easy spares... whiffed on a 6 pin and chopped a 2-4-5. Switched balls halfway through game 2 as the halo was getting lazy, went with the pearl and ended up on a good line save a couple of single pins. Game 3 was dead on again, had a smash pocket 7-10 but besides that went really well. Very happy to sweep and get the 700 even with a lousy game 2.
Wednesday:
235, 247, 241 - 723 series
Once again had a really nice release and was able to read the lanes really well with the Halo. Just adjusted to the conditions with it as the night went on, it was hitting really well and no need to change it. By the end I was playing a more direct, faster line. Just taking what the lanes were giving me and it went really well.
One interesting side note, all 4 of us got 700s tonight, we were all just throwing well. Felt really good as in general the conditions have been a lot tougher this year compared to the past.

Thanks! I think you're getting close following some of your scores and changes. A plastic ball for spares will go a LONG way once you get comfortable with it.

yeah if i could make my spares i'd be a decent bowler...lol. Funny thing is in my past bowling life i wasn't much of a striker but never missed spares. and i was checking my pinpal stats last night and for a 10 week stretch i was at 75% on single pin spares and 71% on multi pin with a 48% strike % (october 10th to december 12th). Since then i'm at 61% single pin and 50% multi pin with only a 39% strike % so definitely lost something here. Not that my numbers were great during that stretch but i was averaging 28 pins higher at that time (200 during that stretcth and 172 since). i think it's mostly a confidence thing at this point.

A decent, if unspectacular week save for one game:
Tuesday:
217, 216, 162 - 595 series
So they changed the pattern again which I realized very quickly. Halo was moving way too much too soon, after 2 shots in practice decided to start with the pearl. Had an OK look through game 1, got over/under game 2 and moved in/changed ball to the halo. Had a pretty good look there too for awhile. By game 3 the lanes were fried. Couldn't move in much more (and was leaving corners) so back to the pearl, with an inside line. Worked OK, but I missed 3 spares. Completely on me. I was not square to the line - struggled with that all night, but only realized it when one of the guys on the other team who I bowl with on Wednesdays told me after.
Wednesday:
211, 217, 224 - 653 series
This went pretty much the same in terms of progression - outside of needing to move back to the pearl midway through game 3, just went 15-5 and it held/carried until the last frame - except I made my spares. 1 open on the night, which was frame 2 in game 1.

Tuesday:
266, 198, 211 - 675 series
Threw really well game 1 with the halo pearl, ran into a bit of transition issues early in game 2. Had my only open with a big 4. Balled up to the halo and moved in which worked pretty well up until the end of game 3. 29/30 clean frames.
Wednesday:
216, 194, 268 - Almost the inverse of Tuesday - pattern was definitely different as well. Had to use the halo on a pretty conservative line for it to read in game 1, lanes were really tight. I wasn't on top of my physical game for the first half of the night, but covered my spares. By game 3 the pair had opened up a bit, and I went with the Pearl again... different lines/angles for each lane, but it was working! 29/30 clean here too.
In all 2 good nights, want to work on getting ahead of the transition a little bit more.

Haven't posted in here for awhile because I've done nothing of note at all! Last several weeks have been a bit of struggle, I'm not matching up well to the pattern and my physical game is just a bit off. Given the tougher conditions that is a recipe for single pins, over under, etc.
Tuesdays:
246, 224, 172 - 642
236, 192, 197 - 625
202, 184, 210 - 596
Wednesdays:
207, 238, 220 - 665
195, 195, 202 - 592
183, 196, 186 - 565
I'm not closing games well either the last couple of weeks. Lots of pins still out there, regardless of how I'm doing otherwise. The only thing of note (owing to the challenging pattern the last couple weeks) is that I bowled 2 very well known pro players on that 592 night. One, coming off injury was just under 500 and the other was in the 620s.

I haven't posted here in awhile, and may be pretty spotty in general. I'm at about 75% likelihood taking a year off... just too many unknowns with the virus, and I don't want to be stuck in a position where I'm putting anyone at risk, or get on the hook financially if the center closes after 3 weeks, etc. I'm not actually feeling a ton of draw (in fact, I was a little bit burnt out), so thinking I may just wait it out a bit or possibly go in as a sub.

Well, I did an about face and will be bowling since I decided that bowling with a mask (which happens to be what is acceptable to me, no politics involved) is better than no bowling at all, so I signed up. Starting to miss it and the evenings. Although, summer off may be a good idea in the future... albeit with some practice next time. kind of scared to see how 4 months of no bowling in any way will translate.

Just chiming in for my week 1 scores. Took several months off and went to practice a few days before, to shake out the cobwebs and make sure my equipment was still good/not cracked, and glad I did. Took a couple games to get my timing and release back... and definitely felt it the day after.
By the time league rolled around I was pretty much fine. I kept my entire approach simple and just tried to focus on timing & follow through.
224, 235, 247 - 706 series
1 missed spare (first 10 pin attempt) for 29/30 clean. I'll take every bit of it, I was just trying to not embarrass myself.

Thanks Timmy, unfortunately it's been steadily downhill since, as expected really:
611, 628, 532
I've really struggled with my 10 pins, consistently dumping them in the gutter just before the pin. Moving around hasn't helped too much, but I may have found something on my most recent series after missing the first 4 but then making a few.

I had a short streak where I was making most of my 7's (lefty here) but then lost it and was only making about 60-65% of them. I pre-bowled today so had the time to go slow and thing things through. I had stood in one place for a 7 pin but would move my feet 2 boards if the 4 was there. Today I stood in the same spot for either and just moved my target at the arrows 2 boards and it helped. Today I was 4/5 and the one I missed I tugged. Can't say for sure my 'new' method helped or maybe I was just more accurate today.

Got sick, took a week off (head cold, but need to be careful) and came back with a different mindset/approach.
Subbed last tuesday:
209, 239, 275 - 723 series
Weds:
241, 164, 236 - 641 series
Made a bad ball change in the middle game on Weds as we hit transition. Aside from that, couldn't have asked for much better. Hopefully this rights the ship.

I continue to be all over the place:
10/14:
160, 198, 158 - 516 series (my lowest in ?? years)
10/20:
225, 198, 226 - 649 series
10/21:
183, 194, 202 - 579 series
10/28:
212, 199, 233 - 644 series
I had a couple issues in my physical game, combined with a tough shot made for a couple of long weeks. Oddly, I seem to have resolved all my 10 pin issues basically wasn't dialed in much on my strike balls. Case of the tugs, hitting my leg, etc. Last week was better, KISS is something to keep in mind this year. It's easy to get the non-bowling life situations rolling in your head and lose concentration.

Been a little bit since I updated scores:
11/4:
192, 207, 192 - 591 series
11/10:
243, 200, 179 - 622 series
11/11:
211, 157, 160 - 528 series
11/18:
216, 199, 210 - 625 series
11/25:
203, 246, 278 - 727 series
12/2:
223, 237, 244 - 704 series
Somewhere in the 11/18 night I made a slight change to my stance before I start my approach (cradling the ball a little more). It's made my swing plane and timing WAY better, and things have really clicked the last few weeks. Struggled quite a bit on 11/4 and 11/11 especially and knew I needed to change - mechanics were just bad. Credit to one of my teammates for talking me through it. I'm still way down compared to last year in avg, but it's creeping back up.
