Event to also feature final PBA Women Series event of the season

SEATTLE (January 9, 2009) – Not only will the world’s best male bowlers return to Medford, Ore., Jan. 14-18 for the PBA Bayer Earl Anthony Medford Classic at Lava Lanes, the 11th stop on the 2008-09 Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour, but this year the sport’s top women bowlers will be coming along as well.

Bowling fans in Southwest Oregon will also be treated to the final PBA Women’s Series event of the season which will run concurrently with the Medford Classic PBA Tour tournament.

The Medford Classic will feature a star-studded field that includes PBA’s all-time win leader Walter Ray Williams Jr. (45 wins), Parker Bohn III, Pete Weber, Norm Duke, Chris Barnes, Tommy Jones and many more. Medford’s home-grown hero, PBA Hall of Famer and 22-time Tour titlist Marshall Holman, will once again take them on.

“It’s great that the PBA Tour continues to come to Medford,” Holman said. “My competitive bowling days have long passed but I’m very appreciative of the opportunity to compete in this event. I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of friends and bowling with the new guys on Tour.”

In its second season, the unique PBA Women’s Series event will showcase a field of 16 of the world’s top women players that includes stars such as Michelle Feldman, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard and Stefanie Nation who will battle for their own championship title.

The first half of PBA’s 50th anniversary season was relatively quiet for Barnes, Weber and Jones, but history suggests nothing can keep these warriors on the sidelines for long.

As the Player of the Year race heats up, Wes Malott, Bill O’Neill and Bohn were the most consistent players in the first half, with Malott qualifying for four of the five PBA pattern championship shows and O’Neill making three TV appearances. But many Player of the Year points are available in the second half including three major championships, so the race is just out of the starting blocks.

In the Women Series, four players have already made multiple shows - Feldman, Dorin-Ballard, Nation and Jodi Woessner. Feldman’s two titles give her the edge for Player of the Year honors but the Medford event could very well determine who wins that prestigious honor.
