I saw this on tv as it happened, I was 15 years old. The match wasn't close at all, as Steve Cook ran away with the title over Pete Couture. Cook was very confident, as you can tell by his interview...."That $30,000 is mine, and if they want it, they're going to have to beat me to get it". What made it exciting as the possibility of a 300 game at the Firestone, which was the final and best tournament of the winter tour back in those day, and all the drama that comes with a run at perfection. Cook, using a Brunswick Mark X polyester bowling ball, was hitting the pocket like no other that day. His ball exploded the pins, and his reactions were very animated. Cook, at that time, was financing his own expenses out on the winter tour of 1981, he was about out of money, so his win came at just the right time to keep him going. Afterwards, my buddies and I were so excited, we went bowling that night and bowled 20 games. Hope you watch and enjoy.
