I know their have been polls in the past, but as of RIGHT NOW, What BALL, and BRAND is Kicking ASK for YOU!!
I would have to say STORM, due to my recent 300 games.... and 780 series with the plugged, and redrilled V.G. nanno.
As far as model of storm, its sort of strange. Same house, same oil THS, but two different balls,
The IQ pearl symmetrical ball
The Virtual Gravity nano, asymmetrical ball.
I have some one Brunswick, several DV8's, one motiv, but never thrown any other brands!
I have had some great games with all the above brands, but so far, my BEST have BEEN with STORM! The sweet smell of success!! Butter Scotch, and chocolate!!

Well, currently I have to say Brunswick for me, I have no 300s or 800 ever, but I have had my best game and series with my Aura (org)
267 and 695
Also my blue/silver hammer taboo has been a great performer, I also have the VG nano pearl but do not throw it often.

You might as well ask who makes the better truck Ford or Chevy?? (obviously Chevy...)
My arsenal includes Storm, DV8, and Brunswick. For me personally the Storm IQ Tour Pearl is my favorite ball to throw. When conditions allow for that ball I have been scoring very well with it and just love the reaction.
Trying to be as objective as possible I would say Storm and Brunswick are tied at the top IMHO.

Hopefully it's the Brunswick Karma because I just bought one off eBay NIB for $48 shipped.

Answer is, there isn't a best ball.
Saying one ball is better than another is all opinion. Don't think there will ever be a legitimately regarded "Best" ball. If that were the case, everyone would have it an be throwing 300's with it.

It's all subjective. Balls are tools, and they're only ever as good as the hand of the guy throwing them. The layout, conditions, his release and choice when to use them matters much more than the ball itself.
Even a lowly Slingshot is the best ball on the right conditions...and will be a vastly better choice than a hook-monster, latest-greatest low-RG whatever.
Whatever ball you bought that disappointed you? Someone just threw a 300 with it.
Whatever ball you think is the cat's behind? It's not right for someone.

Well so many things come into play with this question, but I am asking for you! Sure,,, what pattern ect..ect..
I am just asking for YOU personally, on Your typical house pattern at your house! OK! LOL
Ok,,, fresh THS Pattern/Your house!
I was just wondering what going on out there, and what ball seems to work best for your style of bowling! Would be nice to know your style, speed, rev approx.,,,, ect....

I just wondering what ball seems to work the best, OUT THERE NOW on YOUR FRESH house pattern. Along with appx rev rate, ball speed, style of bowing ect.... I realize one man's thorn, is another man's Rose! (:)

I would agree,,, but then several other balls I have yet to give a roll! I am open if any supplier would like Iceman, or Iron Mike as they call me at the bowling lanes here in Kansas City, (due to my 30 years putting up Iron as an Iron Worker). Remember I got started LATE in life,,, 62 years ....... Now 65!! Damn where did all those YEARS GO!!

It has always been (except for a short period of time when I got my first DV8 till it cracked) and currently still is STORM
Storm has always seemed to roll the best for me and the only time I ever try anything else is when I get ahold of a buddies balls where our span is close enough that I can throw his equipment.

And when you HOT,,, which is a good portion of the time, Your HOT! That was a nice 258 I believe, yesterday! Was that your new ball? I think its a Roto Grip?
maybe that's why we many of us bring so many balls to the lanes. You never know what's waiting for you! I can remember times where we all threw PLASTIC, do the crappy oil application! We just stood far right, and threw toward the pocket.
I guess their is really nothing typical about any pattern... they are all unique oil, that many times require unique deliveries, and balls!

Well there's NO way this thread will lead to disagreement.
I think the best ball is whichever one Jason Belmonte is throwing...or your friend Jason. Pretty much any "Jason".
Also, it's a trick question because 2-handed bowling is so far superior to 1-handed bowling that the ball is actually irrelevant!!! Nice try Iceman. But I'm onto your game.

Geneo2U hit the nail right on the head. Modern bowlers can't afford the luxury of having a "favorite" ball. The one that you have in your hand that is carrying the corners is your favorite, at least for the moment. When ten pins start standing, you'd better find a new favorite real quick!

related to this subject, best ball! Does a person need ONE of each type of bowling ball. My son has a plastic ball, and a Storm light out! Other then this last Monday when the oil was heavier then usual, does he really need another ball. He is thinking about getting another one, First Blood at this time, or maybe the Zero Gravity!
He has thrown a hand full of 600 plus games since starting bowling last September,,,, with only two balls.
When I say one of each, talking A solid, peal, asymmetrical, symmetrical, in order to have a FULL COVERAGE arsenal?
I personally think an Above average bowler can make any good ball work. With different hand positions, targets, and stance. I have been told that moving between balls should be a last resort, not something you jump to with a few bad shots.
A good example of this kind of person would be Jason/The Dude, The ball doesn't seem to make much difference to him, even plastic, high RG,,Low RG,,, solid, pearl,,, he makes them all look about the same, pocket crushers!! \
NOTHING about our drilling patters are even close, my finger holes are much bigger then his, but he can pick up any of my balls, and throw a 200 plus game!!
His Favorite balls are DV8's, but he makes all brands look good! He has the gift!
HIS FAVORITE BALL IS The Dude at this time!

I'll have to throw every ball made on my THS, and let my competition do the same and get back to you.

...Does a person need ONE of each type of bowling ball...Good question & one I'm struggling with right now. I'd say definitely a plastic ball for single pins & some kind of resin ball for strikes, but regular urethane seems only useful on freshly oiled lanes with clean back ends. Where I bowl league the heads are routinely burned up, so I'm thinking a resin ball less aggressive than the Vow I just picked up.
As to the original question...I've always had good luck with Columbia 300. I'm tempted to try another brand just to see if it's just in my head.

JUST REMEMBER Captain X, How you have it drilled according to you PAP, and what form of layout, will have a huge impact on what a ball will do. Same ball drilled two extremely different ways, will react extremely different!
I keep a log, of what I do each time I make a change! When I hit a combination of surface that works! I make a note, so that I can reproduce it in the future.
I have found out that with a Ball Oven, and spinner, you can make a ball do many different things, and move many different ways, simple by working on its surface! VERY HARD TO DO by hand...
Be it Rough Buff, Polish, 4000, 3000, 2000, 1000, 500, 360, and even 180! Its amazing what you can do with a
spinner of your own.
You do need a spinner, and they are the same price as a ball, but unlike a ball its the gift that KEEPS ON GIVING!
I will have to look up info on Columbia 300,,, I have heard of the brand, but have not put my hands of Ice in one yet!
I am very new to bowling, and don't profess to know a hell of a lot, but I will say this, I am a hands on guy, and have picked up a lot of great information on this site,,, the Rich has a lot of great stuff on bowlball.com, at the top of the page he has what's called
Bowlversity!! I have picked up a lot of info there, along with the many bowlers that have bowled for many years on this website!

Yes, it was wild!! You know Gene, this would be a great week to win that Diva for either Joyce or Mary!
Joyce being my wife, and Mary yours! They are both pretty damn good bowlers,,, arguably some of the best at our lanes. Hope you put in for Mary,,,, I already did for Joyce!
What a weapon it would be in their deadly bag of bowling pin destruction! Its fun watching them bowl, we are both lucky to have not only the most beautiful wifes in the world, but even more so, we are lucky they love to bowl, with us!

There are too many variables to have one favorite ball. What ball works best for me on my Friday morning league I would have to walk around the ball return to throw ob Mondays. And My favorite ball for Monday would still be too strong for the league I sub in on Friday nights. So my answer for what's my favorite ball is what is working right now. Rev rate 325-350, ball speed 13mph , axis rotation 45-60 degrees
Storm Roto Grip all the way!!!! On THS or sport or PBA, I have better results with Storm/RotoGrip!!!! 2nd Choice is Brunswick & Motiv, 3rd choice is Lane#1.
Last choice is all brands under Ebonite's roof...Meaning..Columbia/Track/Hammer, and Ebonite.
Of the Brands under Ebonite I would prefer Hammer 1st, 2nd Columbia,3rd Ebonite, and last = Track.
I get more consistent, and most usable reaction from Storm/Roto Grip over all the rest!!!
