View Full Version : Why not more women doing demo"s!!

I don't get it,,,, Storm,,, and many other top end bowing manufactures! My wife wants to get one of your balls, the IQ fusion, but when I try to find a demo, with comparable rev rates, and ball speeds with women throwing the balls,,,, WELL,,, NOWHERE!!
Don't women bowl? Wouldn't it be nice for them to see your balls moving down the lanes
with a more Aslan type of look, of the girly kind! LOL
Serious,,, Why not?? SURE,,, if you look hard, Motiv has one I believe,,,, but you have to look hard, and its not even equal to the number of men throwing, with high rev and speed! (sure not all men have high speed and revs) but most that demo the ball do. Lane side has some old fart, about my age throwing balls, but they are the exception not the rule, and even they don't have a woman demo-er!!!
Let face it, women want to see what those balls, and their recommenced layouts look like! Not Johnny rocket wrist throwing the damn balls!!!! Make it real for women! Give them WHAT THEY WANT and NEED!!!

Thats like asking why you don't see more women deer hunting.
Because they just don't. There are too many malls and too few bowling alleys and men that bowl tend to be weird...so they just hang with their girlfriends and drink mojitos and talk about the latest episode of the Bachelor.
I practiced last night and there was a group of gals and guys bowling next to me. Am I the only one that gets annoyed at how the average John Q or Jane Q bowler essentially treats bowling like it's just a big joke and excuse to get together and drink and act foolishly....without ANY regard for actually even ATTEMPTING to knock down all 10 pins!!??? I mean, I swear (not literally Bowl...no infraction necessary). Since when did it become "uncool" to bowl properly???
I felt like a circus freak because I was the only one in the 6-lane area that was actually TRYING!! They looked at me like, "Wow dude...maybe you should just drink and yell and throw it in the gutter and fall down more....then you could have fun too....rather than bowling a 200 and being sweaty and alone and mad because you missed a 7-pin."
I will say, the blond on the lane next to me...HORRIBLE bowler...and her beer had an orange slice in it which I am against (fruit in beers)...but man...a body....I mean "personality" that WOULD NOT QUIT! Aslan found the next future ex-wife....assuming Alyssa Milano continues to not return my calls. Woo...made ole Aslan have trouble conentrating on his Monday practice when all THAT is going on next to him!!

This doesn't upset women!! The fact that ball demo's are 99.9 percent MEN!! Wow,,, My wife is upset, she is in the market for a new ball, and wants to see what the balls will do, with a woman throwing the balls!!
When a woman throws a ball, its entirely DIFFERENT then a Man! Men just do it better, ask (not sure how his name is spelled) Mallot

Who cares if it's a man or woman throwing the ball. Just look for someone that matches her speed and revs roughly. It doesn't freaking matter anyway....it's just gonna be a video of someone throwing one strike after the other....they all look the same, and they are all fairly worthless when buying a new ball.

Aslan it is the typical no effort society thing. No one knows the meaning of hard work, etc. That's why people like iphones. They are mindless. The Disposable iSociety that we live in. If it doesn't work - whether that is an iphone or grandpa - throw it out and get another or move on. This is why open bowling annoys me. Not to mention the oil is never the same in practice as it is during league night or during a tournament. This is why I really don't find a whole lot of use for practice. To practice foot work or consistency of hitting a mark or a new shot, etc. ok but to even pay attention to the scores in open bowling is pretty pointless.
And they didn't think you were a circus freak. They were wondering is that the dude we saw on America's Most Wanted or the picture at the post office? You had S-E-R-I-A-L killer written all over you. Or maybe stalker. Something of that nature.

WHO CARES,,, I care, my wife cares! If it has no significance, then WHY do they make them hampe! You say to JUST look for someone that match's her speed and revs,,,, ( NO ANIMAL EVEN COMES CLOSE), but,,, BUT when I look at pro Women bowlers, I see a much closer similarity to her style, speed, and rev rate.
I agree,,, and have said that if you were to mask the color of the ball in a video demoing a particular ball, YOU WOULD NOT SEE OR EVEN KNOW ONE FROM THE OTHER, they all look pretty much the same when thrown by
Tony L!!!
YES, I think they are nothing but EYE candy, to get you to think that YOU can have the same results that the PRO has throwing, (what-ever-ball-HE-is making look fantastic)!
That being said, and standing up for a good part of the bowling public, I think women should have demo video's that have the (((LOOK OF THE BALL THROWN with much less REVS, and SPEED)))!
Damn Hampe,,, Does that seem to be an unfair request!
My wife is in the market,,, NO BALL demo's that even come close to what MOST WOMEN want to see!
Is it the only tool most people use to pick a ball? NO!
But it is ONE tool that can be useful!
Lane side is one of the only groups that actually give a lot of dialogue, along with their visual of the ball. They also have at least 3 different styles of bowlers,,, BUT NO WOMEN! Even their old dried up guy, throws harder and with more revs then most women!
I don't care what you say Hampe,,, ITS TIME FOR CHANGE,,, and the sooner the better,,,, STAND UP WOMEN, or go back to the kitchen and take your place cooking, washing dishes, and keeping your mouth shut about bowling demo's!

What do you want someone like Kelly Kulick throwing the ball where the problem with this is very few women will be able to throw the ball like her. So you will hear the same gripes as you hear with the men demo's. Why cant they ever do a demo with someone that throws like me? Well I say just go off of Curley's videos since he has slow ball speed and low revs I know several women in my area that throws harder and with more rev's then him.

really, throw harder then Curley!? What are you feeding them there women, raw-red-meat!!!
I still say their is a market for women, and many would go to a site that SIMPLY out of respect for their unique wonderful lack of speed, and rev's, could see the new releases on a level comparable to their bowling!
I think Lane side review should jump on this band wagon! Then they would have a:
1. high speed and rev guy
2. medium speed and rev guy
3. an old burnt up fart
4. and last but not least, the most over looked bowler in America,,, a WOMAN!

I think you overly rely on "pro shop guy". They tend to have A LOT of knowledge...but they're working in a pro shop (rather than bowling in the PBA) for a reason. They may be able to help a beginner or casual league bowler buy something that is going to a good match for their style. But an advanced bowler should already know what they need or don't need. IMO.

Several Columbia 300 videos feature Missy Parkin, Christina Hardee, and Josie Earnest. I bowl more consistently when I set the ball down with out much loft and slower ball speed, so I actually learn more about how to translate their ball reactions to my game than I do from many of the guys in videos.

I totally disagree with this! Depending on who you choose for your ball drilling. I, for one, chose the best guy in town. Credentials include, but not limited too, x-PBA bowler, drills balls for beginners and PBA bowlers - and everyone in between, ball rep at some of the regional tournaments, and most of all - he KNOWS ball drilling! Also, with his family he WANTS to own the pro shop - not be travelling on the tour, at this time of his life. And, I can't say I blame him.
Do I rely on him, yes, but I also rely on my coach, as well as my own research. And, I rarely watch a ball review, and yet, I doubt I would even if it was a woman, as most review videos they are usually only showing strikes - not margins of error. Motiv has a female reviewer...think her name is Angela. Nice videos that I remember.

When I watch older Hammer ball reviews, they have a female bowler and actually SHE is the one I most want to watch because she's lower rev/10-board type of player.
One thing I've started to believe (right or wrong)...and don't tell the ball manufacturers I said this....but the ball doesn't really matter much. People buy a ball cuz it looks cool or they heard good things...but at the end of the day...with some exceptions, you can change how it behaves with drilling and surface changes...so if Iceman buys a BYTE and MWhite buys a Mastermind...by the time they have it drilled...they could behave EXACTLY the same.
I buy based on whats on special/clearance. Balls tend to plummet in value after about 2 years after their release date. And technology hasn't changed much over the past 4-6 years. So why pay $385 for a new release drilled when you can buy a ball, very similar, sometimes even the same core...for $78.95 (< $120 drilled)?? Doesn't make sense to me.

$385 that ball better come with a free tank of gas for that price.
If you are paying that much for a ball then the you can apply the saying "A sucker is born every minute"
The high end balls around here are marked at about $220 and with drilling grips and slug you would be out the door for less then $250. Of course I dont pay those prices I generally get a decent discount since I am such a good and loyal customer.

Agreed, if someone is paying that much for any ball, it better come with an extra ball and bag and shoes and tape and towel and slide sock and easy slide and cleaner and polish and.......
Most I have paid for any ball is $200. That is drilled, slugged, finger tips.

I see balls online and in pro shops all the time marked in the $200-$270 range. And most shops charge $35-$45 to drill.
Now, is that what you actually would PAY?? Probably not. If you're giving a pro shop $270 for a ball, I'm thinkin they'd include drilling.
I was just illustrating the point that that SAME ball in 2 years will be on clearance online for $80 shipped. Add $45 for drilling...$125 out the door. And whats cool is...most bowlers see it and think, "wow....he must have gotten a new release! I haven't seen anyone use that ball yet!!" Yeah, because it came out in 2011.
On the top of my wish list is the Brunswick Aura Mystic...which JUST came out last year or so. I've wanted it since it came out. It used to go for over $200. Recently, I'm seeing a LOT of Brunswick Aura and Paranormal balls show up on clearance/special...only a matter of time to the Mystic shows up. Imagine, in a year or so...you'll start seeing popular balls like the SYNC, Hy Road, and IQ start going for clearance prices.

Storm may not show women in their reviews but 900 Global / AMF does , Motiv does, Hammer does , Christina Hardee is now doing Storm Videos so all it takes is a little research. And the comment about drillers not making it on the Pba tour is ludcris. They own a pro shop because they want to eat! If you don't have a $$$ contact there is no REAL money on the PBA tour. The prize funds out there are abismal

Thats not a bad Idea maybe you need to put together a presentation on how you are finding these 2 year top of the line balls so cheap. I never find them that cheap.
The one thing that scares me about doing this is I have had 4 balls crack in the last year. When I buy through the proshop they will replace it for free. If I buy off of clearance somewhere online then there is probably no warranty or even if there is I have to pay to ship it back then I have to pay to have it redrilled. I would be more willing to do this if I was finding the deals you are talking about.

Information:
1) Bowlerx.com (clearance ball section) free shipping
2) Bowlingball.com (look for special deals, special rebate offers) also free shipping
3) Bowlingballexchange- This one is hit or miss...lots of people want way too much for their used junk...but if you post what you're looking for and what you're looking to pay...sometimes you get lucky. I posted there, found a ball on another site, then a person responded on BBE, and I ended up with two of the balls because I couldn't pass it up at that price.
As to "cracking"; never had that happen (knock on wood). I'd be more worried about it cracking or something during drilling. I'm sure it would be a challenge, but I gotta think that if a ball just spontaneously cracked...I could get bowlingball.com, bowlerx.com, or the manufacturer to replace it. They might not, but if I make a big enough stink and bother enough people...I might get some relief. Whether it's a pro shop, a website, or a manufacturer...none of them want bad press...especially with the internet. A person choosing their next ball...and they're up in the air about what to get, the last think Columbia wants is a guy posting on every bowling website that Columbia balls tend to crack and Columbia won't stand behind their merchandise. Takes 10x as much effort to win a customer than to lose one. Takes 100x as much effort to win BACK a customer after you lost them.

Given the post below;
Realize, I'd always check with your pro shop first though. I know 4 nearby pro shops...and 1-2 of them, they can get you a pretty darn good deal and have the room to negotiate on price since they can always "wiggle" on drilling cost. My best deal ever was through the local pro shop; Storm 15lb Frantic for $100 plus tax, drilled. Most websites had it for $89.99-$118.99 without drilling.
ALSO...I don't care about WEIGHT. If you DO...sometimes it's harder to find such a good deal. Many of the balls I bought were only available in 15lb or 16lb or 10lb. By the time they get to THAT level of clearance, there's not a lot of size selection left.
AND FINALLY! Remember SHIPPING!! Bowlingball.com and Bowlerx.com; almost always free shipping on balls. Shipping a bowling ball is $25. If you can't get free shipping....it's usually cheaper to get it at a pro shop.

This is something bowlingball.com needs to do,,,,lol, NOT ICEMAN! (:) My whole point is this!
Women, even the very best have a VERY DIFFERENT LOOK to their delivery! It has a lot to do with the fact that they were made from a man's rib! That being said, it should be clear why they don't bowl as well as men, (most of the time.)
They were an after thought by God, to give man pleasure, and company! Hey, its in the Bible, not my words!
Women were not created to bowl like men, but dog-gone-it, they do pretty good all things considered. I mean you try bowling with the equipment they have to deal with!!!!
They want to see how balls look going down the lane with that: ( woman's touch!)
Bowlingball.com be the first to elevate woman to the level of: Bowling Ball Demo-er!!!! (:)

You are relying too much on the local pro shop.
