I am curious as to how you guys and if you guys collect a kitty in your leagues?
on one of my leagues, 5 man men we take all out kitty 'aka: miss money' and goto florida together at the end of the season for a week of golf. we bundle our frequent flier miles and one teammate has a house down there so its relatively cheap.
our max per person if $15 a week for miss money.
here are some that I recall off the top of my head (we usually have a spreadsheet with all the catagories)
split miss - 50c - when you get a split, you have to get at least 50% of the pins left or pay
clean game - $1 - if one person gets a clean game, everyone else on the team has to pay one dollar
quarters - 25c - once someone gets a 4th strike in a row, everyone has to pay a quarter, and a quarter for 5th, 6th etc etc...
9/10 open - $1 - open in the 9th frame or 10th frame costs you a dollar
cousins - 50c - if you are a cousin (2 people on a 5 man team did not strike) then the cousins pay
beer frame - 2$ - 5th frame lowest rolled ball pays.
hanging - $1 - everyone strikes but you, you pay.
6 or under - 50c - if you throw a ball and get 6 or less, you pay 50cents.
single pin miss - $1 - miss a 10 pin, that's a dollar.
there are a few other catagories as well.
and these are compoundable too... for example.
5th frame, you get hung, you roll a split and leave the 4,6,7,10, only make the 10 pin : you would pay: 4 dollars on that one frame alone.
we make the rules with the intent to get as much miss money as we can while having fun doing it,

Does your whole league do it, or is it just your team?
We don't do that, we usually just do poker - $1 to play, any closed frame gets a card... best 5 card hand wins the pot. Some teams, the better ones, will do cards for strikes and split conversions only.

just our team.
we do cards as well, 9/ or X for a card, extra card on hangings. 5 wilds in the deck, and 2 and 3rd game prev winner gets to call a wild so its common to loose with 4 of a kind. keeps things interesting.

Would be an even more expensive night it seems. Sounds like could be fun though.
My Tuesday league we don't play any games, Thursday we play cards , $1 each, and also what we call money ball. Money ball is 4 quarters set up in a line, each strike someone on the team gets a quarter is moved up. On the 5th strike that person wins the money ball. We each put in $.50 to start and then pay the person $.50 each when they win. I have racked up close to $100 in quarters over the last couple years or so. :D

In myTuesday mixed league, we are putting a dollar in the envelope if you are the only person who does not strike in the frame. At the end of the season, the person who put the most money in gets to pick the location for dinner, and the amount we collect will pay for the dinner (or most of it we hope).

Well cards is probably pretty popular everywhere. One game that we have played is quarters before the game starts everyone lays a quarter down for every frame if you are the only one to strike in the fame you get the quarters as long as two people strike the quarters carry over. So the pot can get pretty good depending on your team.

We have a kitty, but definitely don't try to get as much money as your team does.
.10 per open
.50 if you get stuck (hung)
.25 if you miss your average for the game
Doesn't get too expensive but is still fun. We use the money to pay for dinner when we go to state tournament. We have almost $200 this year.

Haven't seen a team that runs a kitty in years, and never bowled on one. All I remember is that it was all nickels and dimes and you paid for open frames that weren't splits and if someone made a split or had a double the others had to put in.

That's a great idea (all except the "golf" part). We used to put $5 in if everyone on the team threw a strike in 1 frame. Last one to strike takes the pot.
