New player-unsure about drilling

Any tips on what to do, ask, look for, etc when my new Cyclone is fitted and drilled?

I'm brand new so I don't really know what I want the ball to 'do'. I don't have a style or form to work from.
I don't see myself hurling the ball down the lane with a lot of force, I'm probably a slower, more finesse player-
if that is such a thing. I did suffer an injury to my wrist-repetitive motion-that was years ago, but I don't want
that to return and interfere with my game.
I'm assuming, from the little I've read, a "fingertip generic long pattern" is what I will get, unless I specify something else.

ANYTHING you guys can shed light on is greatly appreciated, as always.

when u do choose to get a ball tell them your a stroker thats what i get from your post they can give you a pretty basic layout once u have your first ball then you can start looking into pap and such

One of the most excellent videos ever.

I disagree what a new bowler should get a plastic ball to start. I would say that ANY new bowler gets a LEAST a fingertip grip in an entry to mid level reactive resin, symmetric ball. Now, old...young...then I guess I'd say conventional grip is fine...especially if it's an older bowler with health limitations. But buying a plastic ball as a strike ball in this day and age...I think most beginners will outgrow that ball in 120 games.

But I LOVE this guy's attitude. And he's SO right! I get frustrtated with myself sometimes...thinking about balls and surfaces and releases...ask Rob. I am so "in my own head"...that you can hear gears grinding before I start my approach. But at the end of the day...if I can't hit within +/- 3 boards of my target....WTH does ANY of that matter???! Thats why I laugh at beginner bowlers having "arsenals". You got a 5-ball roller bag and you can't hit the same board twice in a row?? Rediculous.

if you r new just ask your driller to watch u throw a house ball , tell him how u would like to try to throw ur new ball and what style u want to work towards and see what he or she suggests , then work from there

After throwing a surprisingly effortless 619 3 game practice series with my Slate Grey U-Dot yesterday, his tips make a lot more sense. Thanks for sharing.

What ever ball you get to start out, Richard's point is that you should able to consistently hit your target before you get too fancy with the ball itself. When I started back after a long layoff, one of the first balls I got was a White Dot. It's normally the first ball I pull out of the bag so I can focus a few shots on hitting my mark.

One tip I'd offer is to work with your ball driller so he knows your game a bit more than a spec card so you get the ball fitted properly. My thumb comes out of the ball quickly and shrinks when I bowl, so I've had problems getting some folks to leave the thumb hole tight enough so I can hang on to the ball. Most of them want to leave it loose and advise me to add tape. After dropping it in my backswing a few times, I realized that doesn't work for me.

Making sure the ball is fitted properly to your hand and suited for how you feel comfortable bowling is the most important starting point.
