View Full Version : Speaking for myself give me a GOOD OLD TWO PERSON TEAM

Having bowled on sanctioned leagues now for 3 years, I have discovered that 2 person leagues are my favorite for many reasons!
1. I go to bowl to Bowl! Not a big social thing! Like when I go to the gym for a work out! (yes many do enjoy the social but not Iceman)
If I want a social thing, I get on bowlingboard.com.... LOL

2. I don't have to wait on a bunch of smokers/drinkers out side smoking or drinking in the bar watching a game or something ( sure some might drink and smoke on two person teams, but its much easier to control when less doing the foul deeds.

3. The oil does not get jacked up as much when bowing two person teams, and if your real lucky the opposing team are both left handed.

4. I get home at a respectable time,,,,,

5. Don't get stiff, and tired waiting on people doing number 1, and 2,,,, (no I am not talking about bathroom trips, but numbers mention above) (:)

6. Never have the problem with too many bowling balls on the racks!!

7. Higher Scores do to less adjustments due to number 3 above.

Just a few of the reasons I think I might be dropping my 5 or 4 person teams this summer and next fall.

You are lucky to have that choice. It's hard to even find a trio league here. I would like fewer numbers on the team, but we deal with the cards that are available...4 and 5 person teams.

I agree for the primary reason of the pace. Doubles or Trios both work very well in terms of the pace of play to keep my old body from getting stiff. Even in trios though, I often stiffen during the extended tenth frame. Oh, to be young again!

I dunno....I like team leagues. There aren't any 5 man leagues around here only 3 and 4, but I could see how 5 might be a bit much. Doubles for me isn't even a league format....it's for tournaments only :).

I do a 5 and a 3. I like them both for different reasons. 5 does take a really long time though, my biggest issues with that league is the time between frames and the oil movement. On the flip side it's nice to do the social thing - I use it as a wind-down after work in the middle of the week.

I enjoy 5 person leagues. For the league I am in on Tuesdays it is more competitive, which I do like. I have been in a Trio league and that was competitive one as well which I liked as it didn't mean I was at the center for more than 2 hours total. The Trio league started at 830 so I was home usually by 11.

There are some humans I enjoy bowing with, but not many! Remember I am only half human,,, ICEMAN! I love to bowl, I fricken LOVE THE SPORT! Most People are what ruin my day! There are some I enjoy being around, maybe a half dozen or so.

I would enjoy bowing even more if I went up against Robots! Robots that don't need smoke breaks, or a shot of whiskey, or half gallon of beer, off talking to other bowlers several lanes down! NOW I KNOW not all will agree with me,,, but like I have told my wife many times, I would have made a GREAT MOUTAIN man,,, as long as I had a bowling alley up there with me in the mountains while prospecting for gold/silver,,, Iceman is a loner!!

Bowing is a necessity, people not!

OK.... I deal with it the best I can, but just was curious how many feel like me!

Or am I as unique as my wife says???

When I am in my car driving same thing!! I don't know how many times I have said,,,, YOU KNOW I HATE PEOPLE!! They all drive like they are on a GMO, Tony the Tiger Sugar coated Corn Flakes Purple haze consciousness level!

Yes,,, Iceman likes Two person Leagues! 5 person leagues defrost me,,,,,,,,, Iceman

Yes one of the great things about Missouri,,, we got em!! I will be starting up my first one this coming Monday! Great league I bowled on last year, with my wife. Its a male female lague, and sanctioned! As far a people go, not a bad bunch at all! The other two person leage is a 4 game leage for the price of 3games. Looking forward to that one too! You have heard the saying:
The Fewer The Merrier! LOL
I think that's how that saying goes... ICE

Not sure of your age Rob, but getting stiff, is not one of Icemans problems, it's a way of life! I am stiff most the time!! ( it doesn't bother my wife at all!!(:)

But to be young again,,,, yes I must agree,,,, I would not have waited so long to get into the sport of bowling,,, 63 was late!!!

Iceman I would rather bowl on a doubles league also but
it is hard to get a doubles league going around here now
days as most around here want to bowl on a 4 person
handicapped league.

I just wish we could get another singles and doubles scratch
league going again like we had back in the late 80's up to the
mid 90's. I loved bowling on them but nobody around here wants
to bowl scratch leagues anymore it seems.

My scratch doubles partner Joe and I still hold as of this day
the center and local association high scratch doubles game
and scratch series from back in 1994 with a scratch doubles
game of 590 and a scratch doubles series of 1629.

I agree with the PROBLEM finding scratch leagues!! Both AMF's close to where I live have nothing but handicap leagues! I am not handicapped??? Maybe older, and several war injuries from Iron Work, but not handicapped?? I don't get it!

We live in society of people trying to keep a level playing field in regards to many sports, but especially bowling? I like REALITY, not give me stuff!!

I am by no means a great bowler, but on a given day can bowl with the best of them! Now I am not saying those days are many having a 190 to 200 average depending on what league, but I can, and do like to go up against reality, not some person with a 160 average getting 50 pins, having a better then his average day!

I feel your pain ,,,, and wish bowling had more REALITY bowing leagues! Too much B.S. involved with handicap!

I hope to find a league like that around town somewhere! I know many might think handicap is a good thing, but I don't mind losing to a better man/woman, knowing on another day I just might beat them scratch.

Nice record,,, you and Joe had/have!!!!

I totally agree with you! Ironically the trio league is wayyyy worse for that sort of thing. Although it's probably because the 5 person league takes so long in between frames that people actually have time to do that stuff and still make their turn.

ON ONE OF MY 5 person teams, we had a guy (on another team) , going next door washing his cloths!!!!!!!! WAY to much time in-between shots.... One guy went to the Barber Shop, (two doors down) and got a buzz, in between shots,,,,, It can get CRAZY!!! Give me two person league's, no time for that kind of stuff!! (:)

Those types of things should be addressed in your league meetings with consequences for not being present when it is your turn.

We have a two man PBA shot league starting in a few weeks you are more then welcome to drive from KC every week and join us.
Most of my leagues move pretty good there is a team or two that moves pretty slow but they have improved after receiving multiple complaints.
But right now if you need to get a refill at AMF it will take longer then it takes to get back to your turn even if there is nobody in line.

My favorite format I think is one they call King of the Hill around here.

It's a singles league but you bowl with a partner every time.

4 bowlers per Pair A, B, C, D
Game 1 A, B vs C, D
Game 2 A, C vs B, D
Game 3 A, D vs B,C
Game 4 is highest handicap total with lowest vs the two in the middle.

Fast paced and you get to actually bowl 'with' new people all the time. leads to a level of comraderie in the league that I appreciate.

This is something I would love to do but how can it be singles league if your paired with a partner thus using their scores as well? Have they ever just had A vs B, C VS D and so on?

It is kindof a mixed environment. the games are all 2 man teams but the points are awarded to individuals

for each team game you win you as an individual get 5 points. THen you also do total team series 4 points for highest down to 1 for lowest.

if you have a horrible night and drag all your partners down with you then you only get 1 point for the night.

If you have a great night and bring your partners along you can get 24.

Generally speaking the next week you would be paired with 3 other bowlers

There is also in individual point system where you get 1 point for each other bowler you beat in a game.
So if the league is 20 bowlers you could get from 0-19 points per game. These points determine the seeding for the next week of bowling. (top 4 individual points for the week bowl against each other the next week down through bottom 4

It's kindof complex now that I try to explain it :D

This is exactly what I'm looking for, only in San Diego. I saw one league a few months ago, but it was more than two people, and since it's scratch I don't want to join a team and bring their team average down, however if I can find one that is two person I can have my buddy join me - since we both just want sport league experience and don't care if we finish in last place this will be ideal, hopefully I can find something.

I have made many trips to San Diego back when I was an Iron Worker! We had our teacher training updates there at a small Catholic College, can't remember the name of it right now. GREAT WEATER even in Summer,,, ( not too hot at all beautiful)! That was back in the mid 80s!!

You know Zdawg,,, I could care less about what place I wind up in, or if I am bowling a bowling god! Because I know on any given day, I can beat a high average bowler. Many times beat them and their series. For that reason I don't care for the handicap leagues, but find a scratch????

I hope to find a sports league this summer, for the SPORT OF IT!!! I like the challenge, and would enjoy learning new ways to attack various patterns.

zdawg,,, you want to buy a real SWEET bowling alley here in Kansas City Missouri??? (:)

This is reason #1 that I decided to move out here, especially when everybody back home on the east coast was complaining about the awful winter they had this year - can't say I miss that one bit
